  • if the pixies were on that tour too I would still be building a time machine.

  • Thumbs up if Norman Reedus sent you here.

  • Thurston, it's been well over 30 years, lose the mop top. Thank you.

This is the real deal so thumbs Up!

    youtube.com/user/rockfeedback?feature=mhum#p/u/11/tBdPB7iyDgk

  • daydream might be more consistent, but goo's high points exceed it - this song an easy case in point. wish on this version they had tamed the ending though. the slow breakdown and dynamic flux on the lp version is gorgeous. get it if you haven't heard...

  • Gracias wiki por acordarme

  • goo is the best shit ever

  • SONIC YOUTH! enough said

  • it seems like they get criticized for being more rock-like for the newer stuff, but the very early songs simply aren't as personal as what they've got now. albums like daydream nation and thousand leaves kind of straddle the border...

  • dirty boots baaaby!

  • dutty

  • BECHOVA IS JUST LIKE NIRVANA!

    THEY ARE FROM BRAZIL!

    CHECK IT OUT ON YOUTUBE!

    AIPRIMISEI!

  • Confusion is Sex, Murray Street, Dirty & Daydream

  • Aye. Experience. Aye. There's the rub.

  • If I could do it all over again, I would! But, sooo much Better! When I was Young, I was Young! But, why is youth wasted on the young? I could do it so much better now!

  • Sonic Youth is just sigh.

    SUCH a good band.

  • Best version of the song.

  • could they not buy a proper kind of shoes ? it would make matters easier

  • the way it transitioned into black in white actually made me smile.

    black&white footage is the shiiiiittt

  • I started up with Goo, DiRtY, and Daydream Nation. But my favor flav record is Evol

  • ooh sonido maravilloso :3

  • doesn't get any better than these three bands

  • what dvd is this from????????????

    please answer bck

  • @89Bleachyourworks es de la pelicula the year punk broke

  • I saw them open for Neil Young and his Crazy Horse gang in SF, when they were spacey kids. They rocked then and they rock now. That sound has it's own sense of time.

  • if you like this maybe youl like also Abiotic - Wanted

  • oh, i would say this album is underrated, but that just means i actually like it a lot.

  • doooood, you guys sound so silly talking about who should like this and who likes it more.... I like it more than all of you cause it's the only band I listen to so there I win... now listen to how dumb that sounds... just enjoy bitches.

  • music trascends time-space stuff....there are posers though, but who really knows who isn´t

  • I hate how carbon copy, conformist, faking intellectual hipsters have adopted my all time favorite band.. 110%SY

  • okay so im only 15, i've liked the band for about two years, i own alot of their albums and love them more than any band bar Radiohead. am i less of a fan than you because i came late?

  • I don't care that their fan base grows.. and keeps growing. It's just a certain demographic of their fans that I loathe. Keep on digging SY youngin..

  • Absolutely not - who chooses what year they're born? I envy you cos you've got even more music to choose from then those of us did who were around when Sonic Youth was current. However, there is something a bit special about being there with these guys as a soundtrack to life at the same time as it was released and in the then alternative charts. Fans of the time helped to make them 'happen' by recognising their talent during their most creative periods. Kid, without you good music would die.

  • Right. but I'm 10 years older than you and was into them first, so you'tre a phony who liked them after i did.

    Now....realize how stupid that sounds.

  • sy started off as a no wave band, and i bet on these straw-man arguments that those original fans are the one's you're now classifying as faking intellectual hipsters.

  • SY is the defacto house band of wanskter Brooklyn hipsters who move to New York from the Midwest and elsewhere by the busload.. The no wave scene and scenesters you reference were artists, were NYC downtowners in the 80s.. They are a long cry from nasally losers from Iowa who live Williamsburgh.

  • heh, and you can pull out a list of statistical data to prove this nonsense and color me wrong, because i never realized there was no such thing as an indigenous brooklyn hipster.

  • they are all fucking legends!

  • Can't believe how many fuds have never heard of 1991 the year punk broke. One of the best docu-vids ever. Thurston is a legend!

  • omfg, dino jr, nirvana, and sonic youth, if this were the 1800s i would have traded my entire basketball team to see that show

  • I would love the pretty fucking dirty tour too...

    Mudhoney, Pavement, SY.

  • no way they toured with nirvana from back in the day, cool,I knew that they were one of the bands to influence them, never knew they went on tour with them, wish i could've been there to watch them both live!

  • Yeah, check out the movie 1991: The Year Punk Broke. Nirvana actually blew up in the States while they were overseas.

  • cant wait til the capital hill block party. soniv youth and jesus lizard are gonna be there

  • Sonic youth is playing a free concert in STL July 17 under the Levee!!!

  • Yes they did, and it was FUCKING AMAZING.

  • hot

  • Nice try. Keep it up check out esteembpo + com for social media marketing. htytikt7ii

  • if I had seen that multi bomb pack of sonic youth, nirvana and dinosaur jr at once then, i would have died or fucking gotten a heart attack beacuse of happiness

  • me too

  • 2 years ago at pukkelpop

    smashing pumpkins

    sonic youth

    dinosaur jr

    iggy pop

    chris cornell

    best festival ever :D

  • Really? Smashing Pumpkins sucks really bad, and solo Chris Cornell is not far behind. Dinosaur Jr has some ok material but I wouldn't go crazy for them. I would have seen Iggy and Sonic Youth and gotten the hell out of there.

  • yeah smashing pumpkins used to be good. now its all shitty shit just like everything else on the radio

  • Word, Siamese Twins is a damn classic.

  • I don't think he asked your opinion >.>

  • Who the fuck are you, his lawyer?

  • Yes.

  • Then relay this message to him, fuck you! Keep that in your pocket as well.

  • Why?

  • @grzesieksz well 3 years ago is saw sonic youth dinosaur jr smashing pumpkins( even though they sucked that night) iggy pop and chris cornell at the same festival. oh an also the gutter twins (mark lennagan)

    best festival ever!

  • i think that sonic youth are best when they experiment with there instraments eg like getting some random metal bar and using it on their strings or when the drummer uses a rattle as 1 of his drum sticks

  • i think it kinda depends - if you play guitar day dream nation and sister - but if you just listen to music get dirty and goo - they are very ear friendly - me - i love all of it

  • ok.........

  • Which album do you recommend me to start to listen?:

Day dream nation , siter , dirty , goo , murray street , sonic nurse ? which? please tell me

  • Daydream Nation, EVOL, and Sister are the best.

  • @whirlwindbliss Agree agree agree so hard

  • @whirlwindbliss DIrty and Washing Machine are my favourites

  • @whirlwindbliss

    they're all differents..

  • dirty and goo are more punk/rock based sonic youth,

where as the others are more "experimental" sounding.

start with daydream nation and build from there

  • Hey dudes - If you're going to listen to Sonic Youth, then you've got to start with the Sister recordings. It blows everything else they've ever done away.

  • goo

  • Most will tell you dirty, goo, or sister because they are supposedly their most poppy and therefore accessible albums. For once I am going to agree with a pitchfork media review and say that Daydream Nation is not only their best album, it is there most accessible although it may not appear so. Nothing beats the high I get from the opening licks of Teen Age Riot. Nothing.

  • Goo is solid, with a few major highlights, but it's really not on the same level as Sister, Daydream Nation, or Dirty (I've heard bits and pieces of Murray Street and Sonic Nurse, but I haven't had the chance fully digest either). That being said, just because an album is an act's best, doesn't necessarily mean that it makes the best introduction for the uninitiated.

  • Goo isn't a terrible place to start. It's relatively accessible but I wouldn't delay in picking up some more of their work shortly thereafter. I think that Dirty is probably their best overall, and it also has some serious bite. Sister probably ranks second in that category. For a while I couldn't decide which was better between Sister and Daydream. I think that Daydream has the edge because the bookends are just so brilliant, but I think that Sister can be fully appreciated more quickly.

  • I started with Daydream Nation. Not the best way to start. If you like stuff like Nirvana or even Dinosaur Jr. for that matter, Dirty is what you should start with. Then Go Deeper. Just my 2 cents.

  • dude what is a bookend?

  • oh nvm i just looked it up. helllllla man the ending of cross the breeze before it goes into the intro again is tight. y'all know what i mean

  • @Alienacionglobal also Goo is a fantastic album, which has this song as the lead track btw

  • @Alienacionglobal Goo. Goo is what got me into SY in the first place. Then Daydream, and then I got into everything else.

  • @Alienacionglobal I started with dirty

  • @Alienacionglobal Maybe Ditrty ;D

  • @Alienacionglobal Confusion Is Sex, EVOL, Sister, Daydream Nation, Goo, Washing Machine, Murray Street

  • @Alienacionglobal ok if you still have the same email account you had a year ago and still check it, my answer is this, the same order as me, the best example of SY at their " peak" maybe, dirty, yeah id go dirty first, hope this helps, will

  • @Alienacionglobal also listen to Washing Machine :D

  • @Alienacionglobal more experimnteal or more easy-to-listen?

  • @Alienacionglobal well, i started with goo... prefer the style of that album and Dirty.

  • @Alienacionglobal my first love was dirty...

  • @Alienacionglobal goo, dirty and rather ripped are good too

  • @Alienacionglobal make your own mind up.

  • Though I love Nirvana more than I can possibly express, what really puts the Sonics above them for me is the sort of ethereal atmosphere and power their music delivers directly to yr. skull.Though thhey abide by the same punk ethos, Sonic Yotuh brings a whole other facet to the table.

  • their music resides in, a surrealistic world that Nirvana (apparently not so aptly named) never really transcended to. But by God, you gotta love Nirvana. still

hahahaha I'm so drunkright now God this song makes me want to write music. Though I can never be as good as sonic youth, though us, the legions of fans, can never be as good as SY, we can still share the experience of expression with them. Go out and make your own tunings and brake your strings and fuck shit up. Let's start a revolution.

  • 1991 the year punk broke

  • I love nirvana but why when yuo bring them up on the internet it has to turn into some stupid debate about why they're better than whoever... who cares they were an amazing band, but they weren't the only amazing band... Wat about Jesus Lizard or this band here SY... just as good on a different sound spectrum. I say this knowing that IN Utero is my favorite album of all time.

  • Hard to compare... as Sonic Youth was more Noise Alternative and Nirvana was Grunge.

You hit the nail on the head.

  • but still, regardless of "genre", it's all music.

i do agree, it's hard (and somewhat pointless) to compare ...

  • BUT!

If you pay attention, Kurt Cobain respected and was highly influenced by Sonic Youth...

  • I'm with you totally. It's all about personal taste. There's a time & a place 4 everything.

  • Exactly. Like people want this music to come back right now. It's not gonna happen if everyone keeps listening to the same thing. Go out and find what's good in the underground right now, not indie cause that's a label now. But i guarantee you htere are some nirvana's and sonic youths and brainiacs in our midst right now and we're missing it.

  • Just a great song.

  • Steve Shelly is a BEAST

  • Sonic Youth kicks Nirvana Straight in the ass, but then Nirvana kicks Sonic Youth Straight in the ass. Then they decide that fighting over who's better is stupid, so they both go up and kick Guns N' Roses ass to the curb! Long Live Nirvana and Sonic Youth!

  • god i love this song!

  • lots of comments by kids here. the pixis top of the food chain??? just for those, who like pop more than complex sound and meaning.

pixis are nice. the sonics are unreached.

if you play yourself an instrument, you know, what i mean.

  • Kim looks delicious here :9

  • best song by sonic youth

  • Easily.

  • Best band? Thats like asking what the best color is, or best food.

Me? I like pizza AND purple.

  • high five on the color

  • lol

  • pizza dude

  • nirvana <<<

  • tthey were before nirvana

  • urgh people shut up about shit

  • Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr. All awesome bands but they all bow down yo the PIXIES

  • nailed it right on the head. pixies are at the top of the food chain. followed by sonic youth, dino jr, primus, nirvana, rhcp, smashing pumpkins.. the next wave was blink 182, green day, mest, zebrahead, goldfinger. that's about the time either a) i got old and startd to think todays music pretty much sucks or b) music started sucking.

  • Pixies are my favorite but Black Francis said he was influenced by Sonic Youth.

  • Only morons try to compare Sonic Youth with

Nirvana, etc., both great bands in their own

    right

  • After all, there are really bands that are better than other bands. These things are facts and not opinions, right? No free will.

  • nirvana is better than sonic youth or dinosaur jr, even these both bands are great, but we have know to difference who is the best: nirvana

  • people... why bothering? let's listen to both SONIC YOUTH and NIRVANA, blissfully!

  • sy is always better than nirvana..

    cobain just like shit..

  • I would define Sonic Youth better than Nirvana, yet to be honest Nirvana had a better live experience to their shows.

And Cobain was a talented musician...

  • But he couldn't play guitar for a crap. But I must admit it's entertaining seeing video of Nirvana trashing a stage.

  • sonic youth kick the shit out of nirvana, frankly.

  • technically you're right....but NIRVANA is my fave band....personal reasons I guess. But SY IS BETTER! but...yeh. I love 'em both.

  • That is what I love about Nirvana. They are equal parts SY and Melvins, Vaselines, Germs, Pixies, Black Flag, Missions Of Burma, Daniel Johnston, Lead Belly, sex pistols, and a whole ton of other bands. They did such a great job of taking all these bands and turning them into one incredible experience. Kurt, Krist, and Dave did something that will sadly never be replicated, if the Foo Fighters latest release is any sign.

  • NOOOO!!!

  • what a load of fanboy bollocks, nirvana is at the very most one of the colors of the rainbow of the pixies

  • Sonic Youth is my favourite band. Nirvana was great, but Youth has something extra special.

  • My favourite song the sonic youth 4 ever

  • kim gordon was a ggod friend to kurt cobain.

so i love sonic youth.their music is excellent

  • my history teacher taught Thurston Moore

  • I'd compare them to The Smashing Pumpkins maybe, but not to Nirvana.

  • Nirvana or Sonic Youth? Impossible to choose, but Nirvana did support Sonic Youth alot before they released Nevermind.

  • excellent song! my favourite at this period of time.

  • long live sy!!!

  • goo is not hte biggest album ever you fool

all the albums are great in the same level

  • Sonic Youth is love, like, the biggest ever :D Seeing them in a couple of days, yaaay.

  • Goo is the best album ever, even better than nevermind but thats also debatable

  • incesticide was better than nevermind

  • not acording to everybody on earth

  • it had better songs besides most nirvana fans are idiots

who only ever heard of nevermind because they played teen spirit on kerrang

  • i'm not that big of a nirvana fan i was just relating it to GOO because they got released the same time

  • imo although the bands were tied closely for most of the time the music styles of both are quite different. you can't compare oranges and apples ;) love both bands ever!

  • Genius

  • great song

  • Even thought it may sound a bit funny, it still sounds great to me :)

  • thurstons voice sounds funny

  • love it . Sy bliss
