  • The purpose of Tai Chi is to transform the arm and leg muscles to withstand the load of one's body weight to maintain balance at any position. The versatility of Tai Chi is very flexible to handle any situations under adversity for the human body. The yin-yang forces are always working with and against each other to let Nature take its course. The mind is to control the movements. If one tries to maintain a fix position for the legs or arms, then one will loose the concentration of the mind.

  • your front knee is not in line with the toes, this is an error and can cause damage to the knees.

  • @TheRetroman68 Your suggestion was well considered. The body weight is alternately shifting from the left to right legs. Unless one is standing still, how can one have the knee align with the toes while they were moving...??? The demonstration here was to show by shifting the body weight alternately by following the yin-yang concept without having one leg taken a constant load at all times. I've practiced this for years, my legs and knees are getting stronger. So far no damage to my knees yet.

  • @NiteDragon95 Im pleased for you but it is a prob and your explanation holds no water, the knee is fully extended and not in line with the toes. enough said!

  • How can one who swims on land criticise a swimmer. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Now humble yourself NiteDragon, a man of your age should know better!!!!!

  • @TheRetroman68 I was only following and responding to your thoughts. Thank you very much for your comments. Maybe I will take lessons from you in the future, young man...!!!!

  • awful disconnected and external movement.

  • @TheRetroman68 Please be more explicit with justification. Is the awful disconnected and external movement had done harm to the body. What have you been practicing that makes you so object to this....??? What is your understanding about Tai Chi that makes you so confident that you are so knowledgeable....???

  • @NiteDragon95 That my friend is none of your business! however read the classics, from the feet to the legs to the waist in every case there must be one Qi.

You have done no harm to the body, it is simply poor Tai Chi

  • @TheRetroman68 Ever though this is a simply poor Tai Chi, if one really understand the concept of Tai Chi, then one will realize that the effectiveness of any kind of movement is the same. IMO Since they have the same health benefits, why go through the complicated gestures just for looks.......???

  • @NiteDragon95 Tai chi gestures are not complicated they are natural movement- once the body has become a tai Chi body (move in the Tai Chi way) why move in any other way. Tai Chi involves sinking and rising, and opening and closing movements The body moves as a unit. This is not unlike tennis, golf, even western boxing when one has become good at it. Nothing to do with looks, the health benefits arise from correct alignment and movement.

  • @TheRetroman68 How can you be good at something without practice. BTW Tai Chi movements are not natural movements. If they were natural movements, then anyone can just do it naturally. Why do people still have to spend lots of time practicing to become good at it. You made it sound too easy.

"Tai Chi involves sinking and rising, and opening and closing movements." OK, I take that as the yin-yang concept. I understand the sinking and rising but opening and closing movements. That's news to me.

  • @NiteDragon95 if the movements are not natural then how can they be good for you. One must flow with the Tao. My children flow with the Tao. Bad habits take hold as we get older, Tai Chi can make us young again and more natural. I see you have been critical of certain players competing in push hands. Many of these players are learning and developing through drills and then competition against an unwilling opponent. One must go into the water to learn how to swim.

  • @TheRetroman68 I have nothing against competing in pushing hands. What I saw was two people doing American wrestling and claimed as Tai Chi. I just wanted to point out the fact that the yin-yang concept was not applied in the competition. I only see two yang-yang force were pushing against each other which is not Tai Chi at all. The basic concept of Tai Chi is always having the yin and the yang counter acting with each. Thus two guys falling at the same time is definitely NOT Tai Chi.

  • @NiteDragon95 they were attempting to use 8 forces! who are you to be critical. Let the world move around you as it wishes, move with the Tao. If one throws stones, rocks may be thrown back!

  • @TheRetroman68 Move with Tao is to following the principles of Tao which is Wu Wei. Wu Wei is to let nature take its course without interfering. Move with Tao is to learn the reasoning from the truth. Nature will correct itself if it was off course. Stones were thrown as the yin-yang effect of exchanging ideas between two people. It is not a matter of who can throw more stones or hit the hardest. It was the most reasoning and logical thinking. BTW How do you know what they were attempting to do?

  • @NiteDragon95 Dont interfere then ! as for wu wei one can add a sail to his boat to find a way upstream.

  • thankiu, sifu nite dragon, u've painstakingly written the notes for all; that shows u've a persistently kind heart! Every blessing to you !

  • Thank you kindly for your kind words.

  • Do not take deep breath at the beginning to avoid fatigue, just breathe like you normally do. Breathing should be taken slowly and deeper to a point, progressively, from shallow to deep. After a long period of practice, your breath will reach the abdomen. It is called the abdominal breathing method. The abdominal breathing method shall be your normal breathing pattern at all times.

  • All movements can follow the music to sync in with the melody for a more interesting practice.

  • At 3.45 minute, it is called the diagonal hands for the right and left arms. It is the preparation for the next movement called butterfly hands. The butterfly hands are the combination of the diagonal hands. You can repeat the butterfly hands everyday, this will exercise your whole body. Also, you must do deep breathing with the movements to be effective. Then you do not have to do any other exercise. Hence this will give you a tremendous energy.

  • The first 3.5 minutes are the basic movements for the beginners. Practice at slow speed that your muscle coordination allows. After day to day practice, your muscles will be adjusted to the telemetry. Thus you can do at a faster pace. The wrist is the weakest point in the arm. BY moving it slowly from 45 to 135 degrees will strengthen it. The slight muscle contraction will build up muscle tone for the arms and legs.

  • This exercise with the starting hands then the lateral hand by turning the upper body to shift the body weights from one leg to another. The breathing should follow the graceful movements of the arms smoothly.

  • This is a good breathing exercise for people with breathing problems. The method involves slow movements inducing natural breathing. Eight minutes a day or longer is very good for improving your health.
