@perrymyincle Well, hold one fret (any fret) with your left hand, then keep hitting the octave of it with your pinky. Do it over and over again, and you'll build callus in your pinky. Do it with any finger thats lagging behind :)
Thanks for this guitar riff! It's very versatile. You can use the basic concept on different strings in different voicings. I like the fact that the high interval is a perfect 5th rather than a 3rd....
One doubt though .. suppose if your playing a fast solo and if you wanna include a tapping lick such as this in the middle, how can I quickly switch from using a pick to using my fingers?
@anandmufc Well you could hold the pick in your mouth. Obviously the riff prior to the tapping would need to end in a way that would give you time to do this. If playing live, you could use tape (like Steve Vai) on the head of your guitar to hold spare picks. This would allow you to drop the pick to tap, then reach for a new one when you're ready :0)
@anandmufc uhh you could buy a thump pick it can be attached to your thumb so that you can tap then go back to picking almost instantly theres a standered pick style out currently and chris broderic of megadeath is making a stubby version of the same pick
@anandmufc I tap with my middle, ring and pinky of my picking hand, so I dont need to alter my grip. But this is important to my playing as I speed pick a shit ton. If you dont have my particular style, you can slide yourthumb up your index while retaining and sliding the picking up to the mid joint. Yout han have to hold it in place while using your 4 fingers to tap. It sounds hard, but once you get used to it like anything it becomes second nature.
High gain on the amp helps but it's probably your technique. When you tap make sure you direct all energy into the neck. Imagine when you tap, that you're trying to push your finger through the wood of the neck so that your tapping finger really presses hard on the note :0)
and your fingers probably havnt developed the calous (spelling?) you need do deliver the hit enough to make the sound. think of hitting a string with a pillow rather than and hammer...
Very cool lesson! Thanks ;)

Wow thanks man, I never thought of using a tape ..

@anandmufc if you end the tapping with some legato it will give you plenty of reaching time and its really easy to make it sound like it belongs

chris broderick has a pick that has a hole in it so he puts it though his thumb.
