For what you get, this car is a great value. I picked up an 09 with 6k miles for $31k...4.6L, fully, fully loaded. SOOO much nicer than some American counterparts like dodge, etc... as far as quality goes. Straight line power...ya, and SRT 8 takes the bait...those drive like a boat though, this car IMO is actually pretty nimble. I really like it.
@Kevin39LV8 chryslers reliability has suffered a lot and the interior is super cheap compared to these cars, this genesis doesnt have the same old cheap interior you remember from the earlier days of hyundai... its taken awards for bringing its quality up, only the srt-8 is faster and its still cheaper inside, you dont buy this car to race in any case, you buy it for something nice that happens to be decently quick. you buy an srt-8 to haul ass, not to drive in luxury
The interior and the packaging as a whole don't even come NEAR comparison to the 300C. You're right, though, they both are RWD V8s with 4 doors. . . . . . . And, newsflash, the 4.6 produces nearly the same power as the 5.7 :).

You can start the car with the key FOB with you (without a metal key) as in many luxury or near-luxury cars, but no car that I know of in the US can be started with just a finger print.

This is a wonderfully assembled vehicle with a beautiful interior. It is true that it's tuned to be more of a freeway cruiser but it's certainly not a slouch in the curves. I think it would best be compared with the large Mercedes and Lexus models in performance. Good review.
I've had 5 and 3 series BMW's and would disagree that they are "harsh" on the highway. They're not super soft, but the ride is acceptable to me. The Genesis seems to be a mix of cushy soft with some firmness, which is fine. To each his own. Also, the BMW 5 series can be quite stellar as a handler. I'm not sure where you got the impression it was a cruiser.

German cars aren't for everybody. A good rule of thumb is to sell them after about 4 years. Thats when everything starts to fail mechanically. After that they start to suck from your wallet faster than a stripper with daddy issues.

Even reading that again it sounds like you, from a 100k car, would laugh at a 40k car that was trying to be luxurious. And, though I am not always one of them, people believe that the Hyundai is better because it is much cheaper than its German rivals, and offers the same features. It is purely value, which is not necessarily wrong.

It may or may not be better, but its on Par. The 60 grand you'll save on it is definitely something to bank on. Repair costs are low.

Despite what Hyundai wants to compare it with, I think its primary competitors are the 300C, MKS, and maybe even the Lucerne Super. It's a winner in my book. Compare this even to like the STS V-8, and this still is impressive (faster, better interior, better economy).
That said, I wouldn't buy the 09 because Hyundai is slated to offer a 5.0L version with direct-injection.
They just did a superb job designing this car. Chrysler has their work cut out for them with the 2010 300C.
I think this car provides an excellent alternative to the Infiniti M35 and Lexus GS (both of which I always thought were quite overrated). BMW loyalists won't give up their 5-series though

The Genesis is by FAR the best Hyundai. But in my book, Hyundai is one of the WORST cars ever. When my dad crashed his BMW X3, the collision center gave us a Sonata. That car was crap. Crappy 4 speed tranny made it so uncomfortable. My cousin has a Mercedes C300 and that car is awesome. I posted this video here, and am obviously a big fan of the Genesis. But, I agree with everyone here that the Genesis simply cannot be compared with the 550 or M45, simply because of the intentions of the vehicles. If it were, me, I would take the more relaxed (and cheaper!) Gen. But, if I lived in the hills and wanted a sporty car, I would pick a 'sports sedan'' like the 550 or M45. The Genesis in no way packs any sporting intentions, as evidenced by my sloshing around and every major review.
I understand your point. You mention the M45, that car is sporty, yes, but the interior is disgusting. The Gen is nicer then that. Just my opinion though. I really feel that people aren't giving this car credit because its labeled a Hyundai.

There is approx 0,2secs between the two, I know it's not a lot, but the M45 is still faster. It's also more comfortable and more luxurious.
The Genesis should be compared with the Toyota Avalon, the Nissan Maxima and the Chevrolet Impala, not these big luxury cars. If we compare the Genesis with these cars, it is clearly the best in it's class (as long as it's equipped with the V8).

This car is an excellent comparison to the M35 or the 530. Hell, you could even compare it to the M45 or the 550, seeing as how it lacks near nothing to everything that those cars feature and is in the same weight class.
I doubt with the circumstances at hand the M45 is even 0.2 seconds faster than the Genesis. That makes the M45's 0-60 time at 5.2 to 5.3 and that's complete bullshit.
That is highly negotiable. What the latter two are trying to accomplish is completely different than with the Genesis. They are, without any doubt whatsoever, sports sedans. The Genesis is a cruiser, not at all a sports sedan. I agree with you there. But, the Genesis is not 'inferior'. It absolutely has more high-tech features than the M45, and is far larger than the 550. And, you absolutely cannot forget, THE GENESIS COSTS ABOUT 20K LESS than these two, comparably equipped.
I was mainly talking about the Command-style knob of the Genesis. The M has a high-mounted knob, which is only for use with the navigation system after a far reach, as far as I am concerned. The M also has 3 speakers less than the Genesis in Infiniti's 3rd tier entertainment package.

The V8 Genesis actually does 0-60 in around 5.1-5.3 seconds. The V6 is in the low 6-second range. If I had the money, this would be the car I would buy.
I raced a Lexus GS 460 with my 4.6 G machine and beat him by about a hood length up to 120 and than had to slow for traffic. And his car according to Lexus site....$59,885.00 comparably equipped. Ouch. He did give me a friendly smile and wave:)

Didna 776 - you are such an idiot! I am a big fan of BMW and MB but performance wise, it will keep up with a 5-series, has more interior room than one, and is priced much cheaper. The Hyundai brand is not nearly as strong as BMW but there is little question there is a lot of value for your dollar with the Genesis. The M5 is probably more than 2x the price of a Genesis V8..
actually i got an used m5 with nothing wrong with it, no scratches or dents for 60,000 dollars. it will not even almost keep up with an m5. my i drive is also waaaaaay better.what would rather have THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE, or hyundai (think about it!)

Have you ever driven a BMW? These is no car on the market like one! A Mercedes-Benz might be more luxurious, a Lexus might feel solider, a Ferrari might kick the pants off it... and sure, a Hyundai might offer a great value for what you get...
Leather's are so soft, as soon as you sit on it you will notice.. But kinda skeptical about its cushion though, for me it's a bit soft.. For Long distance driving soft cushion seat is uncomfortable....................
Think about it, 37x hp and only in a 6 second range? A freaking rx-8 can do that with 230hp not a comparison though as its a sport car. An accord can do the same quarter mile as this car and have a better 0-60 time. Also Accord's are KNOWN to be one of the most reliable cars in the world. Doubt most people will change. This car is very generic and copied many of the BMW's features.
They copied the iDrive, which the new version is great, they copied the styling and a couple of other things.
You can't say a 3,500 pound car is better than a 4,000 pound car because it's faster. That's 1/8 weight off, which could shave about the same amount of time off.
Genesis is huge inside, it seems. It's got the weight so it doesn't compete. G37 starts more expensive too, although not by much.
Everyone here is absolutely right . . . No one who is looking at the Genesis is going to cross-shop between this and the G37, which is much sportier than this. This could be classified as a large cruiser, where the G37 wouldn't even be near that class. It is a sports sedan/coupe, without a doubt.

This is a wonderfully assembled vehicle with a beautiful interior. It is true that it's tuned to be more of a freeway cruiser but it's certainly not a slouch in the curves. I think it would best be compared with the large Mercedes and Lexus models in performance. Good review.

I've had 5 and 3 series BMW's and would disagree that they are "harsh" on the highway. They're not super soft, but the ride is acceptable to me. The Genesis seems to be a mix of cushy soft with some firmness, which is fine. To each his own. Also, the BMW 5 series can be quite stellar as a handler. I'm not sure where you got the impression it was a cruiser.

Hyundai used to build cars for ford in the 70's, but have only been making their cars for about 35 years, i think they have come a long way in a short time

Yes but do you know that Hyundai actually developed the Underbody of the Pajero because Mitsubishi did not know how to make a SUV frame. Hyundai made it..... Mitsubishi took it and put it on the pajero. Hyundai Put the same Frame on their terracan. Few ppl know this because they mainly try to concentrate on Bashin Hyundai. German cars aren't for everybody. A good rule of thumb is to sell them after about 4 years. Thats when everything starts to fail mechanically. After that they start to suck from your wallet faster than a stripper with daddy issues.

Even reading that again it sounds like you, from a 100k car, would laugh at a 40k car that was trying to be luxurious. And, though I am not always one of them, people believe that the Hyundai is better because it is much cheaper than its German rivals, and offers the same features. It is purely value, which is not necessarily wrong.

It may or may not be better, but its on Par. The 60 grand you'll save on it is definitely something to bank on. Repair costs are low.
German automobiles always have high repair costs. They also have the highest recall rate. So Your statement on intelligence is invalid.

None of the manufacturers start out with the best car ever, they build, they learn, and then they make them better.
The cars that Hyundai (and Kia is getting there) make now are pretty amazing, and they deserve the praise they're getting. Buy great CARS...not BADGES!

Despite what Hyundai wants to compare it with, I think its primary competitors are the 300C, MKS, and maybe even the Lucerne Super. It's a winner in my book. Compare this even to like the STS V-8, and this still is impressive (faster, better interior, better economy).
That said, I wouldn't buy the 09 because Hyundai is slated to offer a 5.0L version with direct-injection.
They just did a superb job designing this car. Chrysler has their work cut out for them with the 2010 300C.

I think this car provides an excellent alternative to the Infiniti M35 and Lexus GS (both of which I always thought were quite overrated). BMW loyalists won't give up their 5-series though

The Genesis is by FAR the best Hyundai. But in my book, Hyundai is one of the WORST cars ever. When my dad crashed his BMW X3, the collision center gave us a Sonata. That car was crap. Crappy 4 speed tranny made it so uncomfortable. My cousin has a Mercedes C300 and that car is awesome. A lot of my family have BMW's and Mercedes, and they are a whole lot better than Hyundai, obviously. And that interface isnt that good. Personally, I love Idrive, and Mercedes Command

Sure if you could afford the BMW you would buy it over the Hyundai, albeit you're basically paying just for the bragging rights. But the Genesis is a much cheaper and formidable alternate, and frankly I don't see how you could deny that.

I posted this video here, and am obviously a big fan of the Genesis. But, I agree with everyone here that the Genesis simply cannot be compared with the 550 or M45, simply because of the intentions of the vehicles. If it were, me, I would take the more relaxed (and cheaper!) Gen. But, if I lived in the hills and wanted a sporty car, I would pick a 'sports sedan'' like the 550 or M45. The Genesis in no way packs any sporting intentions, as evidenced by my sloshing around and every major review.

There is approx 0,2secs between the two, I know it's not a lot, but the M45 is still faster. It's also more comfortable and more luxurious.
The Genesis should be compared with the Toyota Avalon, the Nissan Maxima and the Chevrolet Impala, not these big luxury cars. If we compare the Genesis with these cars, it is clearly the best in it's class (as long as it's equipped with the V8).
I just dont understand why we compare a Hyundai with a big BMW or Lexus...

This car is an excellent comparison to the M35 or the 530. Hell, you could even compare it to the M45 or the 550, seeing as how it lacks near nothing to everything that those cars feature and is in the same weight class.
I doubt with the circumstances at hand the M45 is even 0.2 seconds faster than the Genesis. That makes the M45's 0-60 time at 5.2 to 5.3 and that's complete bullshit.

That is highly negotiable. What the latter two are trying to accomplish is completely different than with the Genesis. They are, without any doubt whatsoever, sports sedans. The Genesis is a cruiser, not at all a sports sedan. I agree with you there. But, the Genesis is not 'inferior'. It absolutely has more high-tech features than the M45, and is far larger than the 550. And, you absolutely cannot forget, THE GENESIS COSTS ABOUT 20K LESS than these two, comparably equipped.

I was mainly talking about the Command-style knob of the Genesis. The M has a high-mounted knob, which is only for use with the navigation system after a far reach, as far as I am concerned. The M also has 3 speakers less than the Genesis in Infiniti's 3rd tier entertainment package.

i mean it's a real bargain price for it's class. but... only 6 seconds for 0-60? i thought it woudl be a little less than that. what happened to the real v8's in the 69' chargers runnin 5.5 sec or less. or the 350ci camaro's with that deep as thunderin sound.

The V8 Genesis actually does 0-60 in around 5.1-5.3 seconds. The V6 is in the low 6-second range. If I had the money, this would be the car I would buy.

I raced a Lexus GS 460 with my 4.6 G machine and beat him by about a hood length up to 120 and than had to slow for traffic. And his car according to Lexus site....$59,885.00 comparably equipped. Ouch. He did give me a friendly smile and wave:)

Didna 776 - you are such an idiot! I am a big fan of BMW and MB but performance wise, it will keep up with a 5-series, has more interior room than one, and is priced much cheaper. The Hyundai brand is not nearly as strong as BMW but there is little question there is a lot of value for your dollar with the Genesis. The M5 is probably more than 2x the price of a Genesis V8..

actually i got an used m5 with nothing wrong with it, no scratches or dents for 60,000 dollars. it will not even almost keep up with an m5. my i drive is also waaaaaay better.what would rather have THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE, or hyundai (think about it!)

I agree with you on the superiority of BMW engineering and performance. As a BMW owner, for you to imply any level of concern about Hyundai expresses insecurity within you.
It is so obvious that BMW is better than Hyundai; however, BMW can never even approach Hyundai on value and total cost of ownership.
On brand recognition, nearly everyone (myself included) would choose BMW over Hyundai. With the entry fee factored in, Hyundai would be selected by far more buyers (myself included).

Leather's are so soft, as soon as you sit on it you will notice.. But kinda skeptical about its cushion though, for me it's a bit soft.. For Long distance driving soft cushion seat is uncomfortable....................

Think about it, 37x hp and only in a 6 second range? A freaking rx-8 can do that with 230hp not a comparison though as its a sport car. An accord can do the same quarter mile as this car and have a better 0-60 time. Also Accord's are KNOWN to be one of the most reliable cars in the world. Doubt most people will change. This car is very generic and copied many of the BMW's features.
They copied the iDrive, which the new version is great, they copied the styling and a couple of other things.

You can't say a 3,500 pound car is better than a 4,000 pound car because it's faster. That's 1/8 weight off, which could shave about the same amount of time off.
Genesis is huge inside, it seems. It's got the weight so it doesn't compete. G37 starts more expensive too, although not by much.

Everyone here is absolutely right . . . No one who is looking at the Genesis is going to cross-shop between this and the G37, which is much sportier than this. This could be classified as a large cruiser, where the G37 wouldn't even be near that class. It is a sports sedan/coupe, without a doubt.
