@gmd1417: Yes, I almost always tune the resonant higher than the batter on all drums. On the snare, I tension the reso really tight, leave it that way and let the batter determine the pitch. Thanks.
Are you really using a Fiberskyn 3 Ambassador for the resonant head? Why use the Ambassador for the bottom and the Diplomat for the top if the Ambassador is thicker?
@derekmcanally11: No, I am using a Fiberskyn Diplomat (FD) on the batter side and an Ambassador SNARE on the bottom. The Ambassador snare side heads are much thinner than the regular clear Ambassadors.
Hey I just posted a video of me customizing this snare. Check it out I think you'll find it very interesting. It has Remo Ambassador coated heads, puresound snare wires and two 2" vents. Please let me know what you think of the end result.
Ok i have have been looking for a snare for over 2 months now (no i do not have the money to buy one but when i do ill diffidently get a new one.) Right now i have a pearl forum snare along with my pearl forum set (I HATE THIS SET). It is good for beginners but I'am on my way to intermediate. I was wondering does this snare have a lot of snare buzz (Snare buzz is my enemy). Or does it even matter what snare you get, does it matter of what heads + tunning? And is there any other snare you
would recommend? I really want a snare that doesn't have that annoying snare buzz. And it sounds great for rock/metal/hardcore. I do not so much of a high pitched snare tho. Thanks please comment back (whoever would like to)! Thanks a lot. Also this snare sounds great.
@DrummingMisner: Snare buzz can be reduced, but not eliminated completely. It's part of a snare's (and kit's) sound and we learn to live with it. Don't sweat it too much.
On this particular snare model, I liked the low tuning, it has more definition. Although, it could of been set a little bit higher. Medium was ok but the high doesn`t suit this snare imo.
great sound...i've the same snare, but whit ambassador coated, tomorrow i'll go to buy an fiberskyn ...but is ambassador fiberskyn, right???What is FD?
Thanks. I don't follow any hard and fast rules when it comes to tuning to the extremes. I usually tune the snare-side head pretty high and let the batter determine the pitch
I tune the batter to the point where the drum still sounds good to me, whether it's low or high (Actually, I think I overdid it with the low tuning on this one. It's probably just a little out of its optimal tuning range...).
As for medium tuning, there's a lot of room for experimenting, especially with well-built drums.
Great playing man! I love your snare, I'm going to get one soon. I just have one question: how do you record this? Do you have the microphone close to the snare and connected to your computer? Sorry for the stupid question....i'm technically challenged.
Hi and thanks. I had the mic to my right and behind me, at about 3 ft high, pointing to the center of the snare head (mic-to-head distance about 2 feet). This placement works for the particular room, but you may want to experiment to find the optimal placement for your room.
The mic was connected straight to the laptop's on board soundcard, and recorded with an older version of Sound Forge.
I'll be glad to help should you have any more questions.
@harisk1 Nice sounding snare. How do you tune your snare batter and resonant heads to one another? One tighter than the other? Thanks

That low tuning sounds great. It has that super LA fatback feel. For a 13 inch drum, that thing is a beast.

@SonorSonicFan: Yes, it still amazes me how versatile this little drum is!

@NapoRinc: Normally, I would never suggest cutting such large vents on this snare. But yours sounds pretty good, so who's to say you shouldn't do it.

@harisk1 Thanks, I removed the video cause I wasn't happy with the sound quality of the video.
I'll be posting a studio recording soon.

@DrummingMisner: I would definitely recomend it for any style. It has an impressive tuning rate for its size (5x13'').

i dont get lesson on drums so thats why im here asking this: when you tune lower, do you tune just the bottom skin or both or just the top?

ilmatteot 1 year ago
@ilmatteot: FD is the Diplomat weight Fibeskyn, although with the thicker fiberskyn coating is closer to the weight of a normal (coated) Ambassador.
The "Ambassador" Fiberskyn is the FA. Personally I prefer the FDs.

Wow. That snare sounds incredible.

Excellent snare, got one myself. They just seem to want to be cranked up nice and tight for that sharp punchy sound to vibrate from em!
