@Krizmizify Depth. A lot of the songs on the last couple of albums've had multiple guitar tracks. To be fair i think it's probably more likely just a way to help Pat Smear out

@TJRy12921 I feel like he adds quite a lot, imo the new album is the best Foos album yet and Pat adds a lot of the heavy guitar sound to the songs. Most Foos songs of this millenium have at least 3 guitar tracks so being able to better replicate that live and adding a little something different back to the band is clearly a good thing.

@twistedblade84 I agree that the new album is the best one. obviously I can't be sure about how much his influence added to that, but whenever I see them in live videos or whatever, it just seems like he's not doing anything. Unlike Chris who adds melodic riffs/solos to the song, it seems like Pat just doubles parts which I feel they can do without.

@twistedblade84 I do disagree about the 3 track guitars though. I know they like to multitrack in the studio for a fuller sound, but most of the songs only have 2 distinct melodic parts. I'm in a band that covers ff songs and we're never sitting there wishing we had 3 guitarists. Even on the new album, I don' t think there's any song that can't be played with 2 guitars, maybe rope. That's what I meant about him not adding much, I was speaking more towards melody and new ideas.

well, they certainly didn't in the beginning, on the first two albums, i think, it was ve who did all the recording, the rest of the band was pretty much just hired to do the touring, it was first later on that the rest of the band (espcially taylor hawkings) had any influence...
