I've been wondering what this songs meaning was but now I think I know :) never thought this song was about Scotland, ever. Think I prefer this than the acoustic version.
@nixondelima i think it's about our long disputes with the english and how we learned to overcome them trying to take over our country, also about how we didn't stop fighting until we were free :) peace :D
randomn epiphany of the day: if we were suddenly invaded by a race of man eating aliens and they were about to obliterate us unless we showed them a song that demonstrated the beauty and goodness of mankind i would sure as hell hope our world leaders would pick this song....ya this song would pretty much save our butts
One of my favorite songs growing up (I was 11 years old when this came out), and I was lucky to hear it live on the T4E tour, as it was my first real concert experience that wasn't classical. Looking back, this song has had a profound influence on my world-view to this day, such an incredible, ubiquitous insight to the human condition. I wish more people took the time to appreciate such important musical messages, instead of being musically lazy and feeding the materialist/consumerist machine.
I love this song.......i get chills whenever i hear it.......it makes want to cry.......it gaves me faith in humanity haha :) does anyone know how to convert the tabs for this song into sheet music for the piano....pleez help me out :))
@metalmanjakson01 The electric version of this song smokes the acoustic. Sorry, I know people believe the acoustic version they do of this song rules and all but the studio version just gives chills.
Bought this CD just before boarding a flight from Philly to Seattle in 1996 - my first flight. I rented a car and drove up into British Columbia where the majesticness of this album seemed to bounce off the walls of the Fraser River Canyon north of Hope, BC.
I think its time that we speak as one I would like to start a petition for rush to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame if you agree or want to sign let me know we are going up to wis. july 3rd to watch rush and i will be getting ppl to sign to join the moment.
@otheblade although i am pissed off at the hall of fame...i have decided that it'd be much cooler if Rush was never inducted. This would show the stupidity, arrogance, and ignorance of society in general (since they mostly like stupid stuff)...something certain Rush lyrics (and even powerful musical arrangements) tend to talk about. And from what I have seen, smarter people and/or musicians tend to like, or at least appreciate Rush, and dislike everything else.
@Philosnav you should try to avoid generalities like that. as a smart person i like this song and rush in general but smart people may also like stupid stuff because it is stupid and easy to listen to.
Great song. I hate it when WMG hides the length of this song. I really thought this video was a dud. But It contains the song. So 5 stars. DOWN WITH WMG!!!!!
A song inspired by the great country of Scotland, called Resist.
When they done the acoustic version of this song at the SECC in Glasgow in 2004, the tears ran down my face during the whole song. Its a beautiful song.
The ferousis voice at certain points means this song get's a pass only because Geddy sings it. I grew up on rush and would do my fair share of defending them. My point i guess is this is a perfect example of a song that would have been mangled by anyone else. Does this mean I think it's a bad song? not that anyone would care, but no and yes. Yes because it's derivitive and no because rush is allowed to be derivitive because many upon many are derivitive using them. I.E. dream theater
No he doesn´t. He just plays the chords, and by the way it´s electric, not acoustic guitar. Maybe the piano pattern is some sort of trigger thing they play with their feet. But you´re right, Ged doesn´t play that either. So go figure it out : D
it's a joke, not a song really based from Scotland. To me Ged says that because it sounds like a scottish song and like he said in the Rush In Rio Boys in Brazil he said,"it's a Folk song really..."
Is this taken from an official release?
