i agree that there should be an ever deepening economic union between india and pakistan which gradually takes some european-like confederal form (based on referenda to ensure that the populations are constantly buying into it). if a pakistani businessman had owned the mumbai oberoi and an indian businessman had a major stake in the lahore marriott, it would have positive ramifications for our entire relationship. getting rid of visas will be a good first step. @arjun - mind your language.
I must say that I have a strong personal admiration for Lalu on account of his expert management and turnaround of Indian Railways as a federal minister. Sure, in the past he has been accused of corruption. The fact remains that even Western business schools are developing case studies on the railway turnaround under his leadership. In addition to boasting a reputation for getting things done, he is also a man of very humble origins and identifies with the poor masses.
Laloojee comes from my state and we understand him very well.. Now his hogwash of turn-around is out in open. Actually laloojee kept selling net income as net profit. Now he accepts that. laloojee forgot to subtract net cost of operation from net income to calculate net benefit.
anyway that issue aside he is talking sense here except that usual american bashing which one expects from all left and semi-left leanign politicians in india

I wholeheartedly agree with Lalu Prasad's view that a union of India and Pakistan is in the interest of the poor masses of the two countries. We need to cut down on massive defense spending; the money can be better utilized to develop our economies through investment in education, infrastructure, transportation, environment, and health-care. I also agree with Lalu's that it is NOT in the interest of great powers such as America to see a union between India and Pakistan.
