I grew up with two older brothers who listened to these guys and I was indoctrinated at a young age and I never never get tired of listening to this harmony like no other ever. The guys who copy them are good, but I like the real thing and thank you for uploading this for all of us to enjoy
@bstz44 I'm always so happy to hear from people who love this song and the group. I know how you feel too when you say you like the real thing. I love the Temptations, but I probably won't ever see the group in concert. I know the newer guys are good, but for me, I would only keep thinking of how great and powerful the original 60's lineup was. I would consider seeing the Four Freshmen now, but it would probably be the same feeling as I have about the Tempts. Thanks for your great comment!
@tomovox Thank you for doing this. I spent the better part of Saturday evening listening to all the old favorites. I really had forgotten how wonderful they were and in fact, I just went on amazon and ordered three of their cds. My friends think I am nuts when I buy CDs and don't download songs, but there are just some Cds you have to have and these are they. Thanks again tomovox for doing this. This must have been a labor of love
@bstz44 Oh, there are lots of us who still buy the cds and forget about the downloads. I buy the cds for the same reason I still will buy an album- I enjoy seeing the cover art and reading liner notes and learning about the who's and what's that went into a recording. I have the Four Freshmen on cds and if I find the albums, I buy those too. You're right, some cds you have to have. And you're right about this being a labor of love- these men really widened my musical horizons.
I have the sheet music to this song by Chet Forrest and Bob Wright. The chord progressions are wonderful. Maybe that is where the Freshmen got their ideas for this beautiful rendition. Great memories!
@artwitstick That sounds like a true treasure to have that sheet music! This music is just a hit across the board: great memories for those who grew up with the song and the group and a new favorite for those who have come to love it in recent years!
@DarwinBlinks Well, what may have happened is that Brian's influence may have been the Four Whatevers instead, which would have given the Beach Boys a different sound, which would have influenced other bands in a different way...
I think we MUST thank the Four Freshmen- EVERYDAY!
@hotroddy97 You are absolutely right about that. I bought a few books on the history of the Beach Boys and Brian was enthralled with the group. He idolized the members and those harmonies and taught them to his brothers. I could never figure out what it was about the Beach Boys harmonies when I was younger- I just knew the sound was unlike anything in rock or pop music. Learning about the Four Freshmen and the Beach Boys, I was excited to finally understand where the Boys' sound came from.
@tomovox the 4 freshman was the first group brian went to see live there was some talk of geting the guitarist of the four freshman in the beach boys when carl was being drafted
@spacepatrolman imagine how cool that would have been to have had the 4 freshmen's guitarist in the band! that would have been such a great link between the two groups.
@djbadsector I'm laughing!! Isn't it funny how little it's those little things you don't think too much about can turn up in the last place you'd expect?
@bigloualbany That's such a nice comment to read, Lou. This song definitely moves people, and reading your reaction to this song definitely puts us all in very good company. Thanks for joining the club here!
@bigloualbany So very true! This just gave me goosebumps. Music from the geniuses you mentioned made a difference and there are no real comparisons either. I liked the Four Freshmen from my Kindergarten years in the 50's and I am re-discovering the beautiful harmony. Pure class.
these guys have been with me for 60yrs love em. always have always will.thanks to all you good people that post this art its a great place to come.this music brings us all together.pity the rest.many thanks tomovox.
@exjazzbassbaz you are so very welcome, my friend. excellent comments you make- the music does bring all sorts of people of all ages together and I'm constantly amazed at the range of ages that are drawn to this song. truly, the four freshmen were such pros and they seem to be at the top of a lot of favorites lists. it's such a wonderful thing to see and I'm happy to have your comment here.

Apparently this was my grandmother's favourite. I didn't really get to meet her because she died when I was about 4 years old. But my mom, played this to me and since then, I've taken a great taste in old music and especially older music.
@NintendoSpoofer I don't know what it is about this song; seems a lot of us who like it are people who heard it way past the time it was origianlly released. Even if you think you're the kind of person who wouldn't listen to vocal groups like the Four Freshmen, somehow THIS is the song that gets to everyone. I guess its testimony to how great a song and how great a group the Freshmen are. I'm really glad you posted here- just goes to show, good music is good music no matter when it was done!
This song smells like old Christmas decorations. It feels like wool carpet. Tastes like a cherished half-a-can of Coca-Cola. This song is my Dad, coming home from work in his brown suit, kissing my Mom and making a gin and tonic. ADORE!
@charliedontsurf70 hi charlie- nice to have your post here; sounds like you had very cool parents with good taste in music. thank you sharing your comments.
@charliedontsurf70 Your parents had wonderful taste in music. My dad use to play tis too when we were kids. I miss him all the time. Those were beautiful days.
Taste, style, timing, cool, perfect harmony. Bob Flannigan knows how to create a great vocal arrangement. Bob, Gene Puerling, Brian Wilson for the baby boomers. The 3 Kings of vocal harmony.
@MoneyBlocc868 don't be too angry, this wasn't played in my house either- just wasn't the music my folks grew up with; made it all the more sweet when I "stumbled" upon this song on the radio one day! my own personal discovery!
@jmua04 Once I found out about the Brian's being influenced by this group, it was one of those "aha" moments. I could never put my finger on what made the Beach Boys sound so unique, then listening to the Four Freshmen I finally got it. The Four Freshemen- what an amazing group!
@kulshaflam3 well, I'm very happy to have you here as a fan of the group! it's nice to hear from someone as young as you- just goes to show that good music is good music for everyone! thanks very much for commenting here!
@elbowout your comment about singing without vibrato was one I had read somewhere once before. I had never realized just how much of a difference it makes to sing without vibrato, and I never realized just how difficult it can be to hold a note without using vibrato! these men are astounding in abillity to sing those chords with such a tight sound.
Great sound! This is one of my all time great singing (and playing) groups. First heard them back in 1949. They just keep getting better and better. I personally love the 2007 group of all of them. They use intricate chord progressions that blend into
perfection. Thanks for giving us a chance to hear them again Tomovox, it's appreciated
Absolutely the tightest freshmen group to date. This song is one of my all time favorites. The great voices handle the intricate harmonies with ease. They all blend into one excellent schmaltzy sound, using great chord progressions. Can't say enough about them that hasn't been said for many years past and current. Thanks for providing us with these gems Tomovox
@mooaks1 Hello mooaks! There is something haunting and stunning about The Four Freshmen on this song. This is about as far away from anything I grew up listening to and yet, all it took was my hearing this song by chance. I was trying to locate a station and I happened on this- it was nearly at the mid point. So beautiful, I asked everyone I could think of to find out who this group was and then I went to a second hand store and found the album...
@tomovox ... I've been hooked on the song and forming a deep fondness for the group ever since. I'm so very happy I can post something that so many others love as well, and I'm so very happy to have your post here!
Beautifully well done to a beautiful song -even without orchestral accompaniment.
