  • on fire reminds of The Velvet Underground third album

  • Haha, bass is not properly tuned.

  • abortive, but eyeopening version of what will become one of my favourite 'ive had enough-lets slow down' records ever made. decomposing trees, strange and of course blue thunder..but my most memorable moment is hearing them cover ceremony by joy division- perhaps the best song j.d. wrote after shadowplay.

  • Please tell me name of the guitar Dean uses.

    >butcherthesebodies

the chords of this is only C and F.

  • Anyone know the chords to this?

  • what a great find.

  • late nights 1991, auto reverse on the car tape player, round and round, never tired.

  • @ClonfinHunter A hundred times yes.

  • Galaxie 500 were a gem of a band - the guys voice was a little whiney but their guitar playing and their song writing was absolutely beautiful!

  • @CalumnMcAulay not to mention their gut wrenching guitar solos!

  • Clone on the wild side clone

  • Cloney Island baby clone

  • this is my favourite video on youtube.

  • Whiney Indie kid for 3!!!

  • god, it's weird to think that i was gaining shape in my mothers utero they played this yet i love it as if i had listened to it for 21 years.

  • oh god i wish i was here.

  • I could listen to those two chords forever.

  • 50% Neil Young circa After The Goldrush / 25% Velvet Underground circa 3rd album / 25% New Order circa Ceremony. Marvellous group.

  • @fifiragdoll 1 % adam sandler. ;-)

  • Galaxie 500 is a one of a kind band. Absolutely beautiful.

  • awesome find. thanks for posting. loved Galaxie 500.

  • @kg2104 it's an 80's Gibson ES 335 Studio, which didn't have F-holes or fingerboard binding. He also had a late 70's MIJ Epiphone Riviera as a back up.

  • Right Time, Right Sound. Lucky to be in Boston as G 500 starts and even enjoyed their record release party for TODAY at the Rat.

  • most beautiful tune ever

  • What I love is how Damon and Naomi, no matter where Dean goes, glide along sedately and beautifully, like Maureen Tucker split into a bassist and drummer. :)

  • cool

  • Can anyone please help me figure out what guitar Dean Wareham plays? Seems like a Gibson ES 335 in this video...is this what he used when recording too ? This song is just gorgeous; in my opinion, the standout from On Fire (even though I acknowledge that's a bit redundant given how fluid that album is). What I would've given to have been in that gym...

  • I last saw this band 20 years ago at the Glastonbury festival on the main stage 1990. God that makes me feel so OLD!!!!

  • nice shorts

  • I miss the days when real musicians could afford to buy the gear that these guys are playing. Now you have to be a collector and drop thousands of dollars. I bet the Ampeg B-15 bass amp Naiomi's playing alone would go for two grand. She probably paid a few hundred bucks for it.

What a great band, though...and playing in a gym. Crazy. And at the same time Poison was playing in some arena somewhere. Is there any justice in the world?

  • @JEdgarGroover Bands get gear like that because they are meant to have it. I have a 1979 Peavey amplifier and a 1975 MIJ P Bass that were given to me. It has nothing to do with money. Just fate.

  • @micheelvis Nobody gave Galaxie 500 their gear. They bought it. I'm glad that you believe in fate and magic and faires and wishes. But you know what? Wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which fills up first. Clearly you're way more special than everyone else because the universe has seen fit to bestow upon you crappy vintage equipment, which I'm sure you love and will argue is just as good as all the stuff I'm talking about. Play for 20 or 30 years and see how you feel then.

  • Had the pleasure of seeing them twice at the wisky and when they opened up for they might be gaints at the wiltern.. miss those days...

  • I have just discovered this band.. Velvet Underground & Pixies are my favourite bands of all time. This is an amazing thing to discover at 30. Fantastic!!

  • @pixiescam

You might also enjoy The Verlains... Make no difference, slow sad love

    enjoy...

  • fantastic band, i saw them support the sundays in manchester wayback in the 80's, recently saw damon and naomi in manchester, chatted to naomi, lovely women.

  • i feel velvety, yet again...

  • @kerdubennak are you saying they are like the velvet underground or the music is velvety?

    either would be correct

  • @MrMisab : correct is a word i'm trying to bar from my language, thanks anyway MrMisab for acknowledging the connection with reed-cale-nico

  • what with the shoe gaze revival going on i hope these guys are appreciated now....the music hasn't aged at all and sounds like it could have been recorded last week.

  • Awesome footage. I always saw his voice as just another instrument adding to the glorious din.

  • galaxie are one of the best indie rock bands ever so stup up and appreciate the times when music could be art..

  • what chance could music ever have again if we think of it like that though

and galaxie is as good as I need them to be

the theory of dark flow states that our universe is moving at millions of miles per hour, in the gravity of something greater than itself, a multiverse of many. is there a universe where music still permeates the soul and not just the body? or is that universe beyond help as well?

...or am I thinking too deeply about all this

  • GREAT voice

  • i disagree with people who say he has a bad voice, espeically off album i think it's gloriously edgy.

  • awesome band

  • I was lucky to be in Boston and in Radio when Galaxie 500 got going. Today record release party at The Rat and shows at the Green St Station in JP.

  • this song makes me weep like baby

  • they tore it up ... even in a sports hall . loved this band ... 3 perfect records

  • where and how can i get closer to you G500? I frickin love you. jb2k_1999@yahoo c o m

  • agree he not got the best of voices, but believe me this stuff is sublime. listen to the studio albums for a more polished idea of how brilliant these guys (and girl)were.......

  • his voice sounds like 2 cats making love at midnight

  • this song makes me cry

  • Now

    I'm crawling on the floor

    making noises like a dog

    making noises you can't hear.

  • great shorts, sir.

  • makes me sad and happy. staring at the wall waiting for you call when will you come home

  • Any song that references watching Kojak is absolutely a classic! To the dude who talked about Naomi and his tongue is that anyway to talk to a beautiful talented lady?

  • This was my fifteenth birthday!!! What a gift to find it!

  • @Dantyankle are you serious!!?!?!?!?

  • I still remember when they appeared on MuchMusic (Canada's MTV) and had the misfortune to be interviewed by Erica Ehm, who was sometimes guilty of seeming doing little preparation.

She asked if they were deeply influenced by the Velvet Underground, and the whole band pretended not to know who that was, and Erica seemed to believe them. This was just after Fourth of July was out, with Here She Comes Now on the B-side, for goodness sake! Who did they learn it from, if not the Velvets, Erica?

  • This haunting and beautiful song is in top rotation on my iPod. Saw them perform twice in San Francisco at the Kennel Klub. I still have my day Glo T-shirt they sold on that tour.

  • HP Pavillion Slimline: $800

    Verizon Internet Connection: $45

Watching Galaxie 500 play under a basketball hoop: Priceless!

  • @fusedsilica LOL! Great band!!

  • @fusedsilica a comment that actually made me laugh audibly. these guys really were amazing weren't they? i listen to "tell me" everyday still.. i love on fire as a whole tho.. great highway driving album

  • @fusedsilica that was so beautiful that you said that....shucks....yer pretty cool in my little book of life's likes....

  • @fusedsilica well you still have to buy that laptop and get that internet connection to be able to watch this video lol

  • thanks :-)

  • Wow! One of my fave bands! Great vid and great sound!

  • wow they all look so bored.

  • It makes the proceedings seem all the more authenticle.

  • NICE SHORTS oops sorry caps lock

  • I love this song!

  • They make such a beautiful racket.

  • do you have more songs from this show?

  • They are all on the DVD

  • o os velvet

  • this is my fave video on youtube

  • how did we miss this band ?

  • This sounds amazing live.

  • I like the fire exit and the basketball net...

this would have made an ideal prom or even an exceptional home coming....great footage, thanx!

  • nunca comentei NADA nada nesse troço, mas essa banda é a melhor coisa que eu descobri desde... nem importa...

  • desde os my bloody? o madredeus?
