Completely awesome - Has anyone got the videos of Neville Crump's winners? 1948 Sheila's Cottage, 1952 Teal and 1960 Merryman II. Would love to see these.
Hello Smudger and jeda: We have the Sergeant in common! His owner, Laddie Sanford, was my great uncle. As the first American-owned horse to win the National, Sergeant Murphy is bigger than life in my family. I have hundreds of pictures of him. I never dreamed I'd see a film of him! Watching him here in motion after a lifetime of seeing him only in static form is surreal. I now hold the Sanford colors (purple and gold stripes) that he won the National under and run 'chasers in the US.
@sirbates2 If your family have any relics of the race they they would be willing to loan then Aintree would be delighted to display it. Jane Clark runs a museum at the course with no public funding. The original colours for example would be fantastic. Aintree have some going back to 1891.
PRICELESS! Tuppy Bennet was my grandad's 1st cousin. This is incredible to see. Sergeant Murphy and Tuppy Bennet are legends in my family! Well done and thanks so much for placing this on YouTube!

My Grandfather bred Shaun Spadah the horse that came second. He won in 1921. Thanks so much for this posting.

Is it correct that Shaun Spadah is buried at what used to be Lewes racecourse? Was he trained in Lewes?
