Is there anything that can be used to substitute the cottage cheese? I really cannot stand cottage cheese or ricotta cheese. I know this is usually a staple in lasagna, but I was wondering if there was a way around it? lol Thanks so much! =)
Hey Betty! I was wondering if you could suggest an alternative to baking in the gas oven? For example using the microwave or something, since my oven is out of order mostly! :(
@sanznia You could use the microwave. Just cover your lasagna and set it to cook a few minutes at a time to check to see if everything is hot and all the flavors are blended. Your lasagna will not be brown on the top, but it will be good. You may also do this in a large skillet or sauce pan on the stove top.
@bettyskitchen I would suggest just getting enough of these items to fill a volumetric measure to 237ml level (or half that for a half-cup measure) and get busy cooking. It will work fine even if the measurements are off a bit.
@ZaynMaliksn01fan I'm guessing you are in the UK (I got that from your username, Zayn's my favourite too :-) But 1 cup of hard cheese (ie parmesan) grated is approximately 100g so use about 50g for the recipe, 1 cup of cream cheese is approximately 225g, and the closest density I could find for sour cream would be yoghurt, which for one cup would be 250g, so use 125g for recipe, but generally sour cream is sold in ml in the UK, so use Bett'ys conversion and use about 120ml. Hope that helps.
Betty, i made this the other night and my family loved it, my daughters went for seconds. The only thing i did different was that i seasoned the meat with powder ed garlic and onion. Im planning to do it again soon
Lady that is mouth watering, very pretty...my husband doesn't care for the the cottage cheese or sour cream or cream cheese.... is it really obvious that you can taste it...thankuuuu
Thanks again for the recipes Betty ! You helped this old bachelor stay away from the fast food joints. I've been cooking more often and your videos offer more variety than I could ever cover. However If I live long enough I will give each one a try ! Thanks for all your hard work ! I realise how much time you spend making these videos and truly appreciate your effort. May God bless you and yours !
@pmharl I have a Spaghetti with Homemade Marinara Sauce. You could make that sauce and put it into this recipe; that way you would get the spices you need.
By the way, the videos you record...are they made when you are cooking for your family, or you cook them specially for us?? And who eats the plates you serve to show us what the final thing looks like?
@ctba452 I choose what I want to make for bettyskitchen, so that there are various meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, etc., and then my family has what I've fixed for dinner (or lunch). My husband, Rick, always gets the demonstration plate!

Part -2- Sorry for the part 2, but it was SOO GOOD! That dish will for sure be made in my house over and over ;) !!! It's nice 2 because we have enough for leftovers tonight! I'm sure it will taste better tonight as it gets better overnight in the fridg.Gosh, thanks again Betty for that. The Cream Cheese was out of this world GOOD in the dish. You should try it like I did Betty.Try layering it twice with lasagna noodles&adding mozz.Cheese between layers.Try it with Ricotta too.THANKS!Your the best
Betty I made that last night:) Good Gravy ..was that ever GOOD!My family told me that was the BEST lasagna I EVER made!No kidding!I followed your recipe.I did however make a couple changes.I used 2 layers of lasagna noodles&layered it twice.I also added 1 layer of shredded mozz.cheese.Then I did what your sister did &I put the pieces of mozz.cheese on top. Then I topped it off with Parms.cheese.They LOVED IT! I also used Ricotta instead of Cottage Cheese.I think the Cream Cheese in it was GREAT!
I tried this last night...it was superb! I used macaroni instead since it's all I had. And I used turkey ground meat. The cottage cheese gave it a better texture than Ricotta.
Im so excited to try this recipe out Betty! I LOVE your simple recipes:) thank you soo much for your help! Oh, by the way, do you have a video on how to make the garlic bread you have in this video?
@ilovedogs1085 I have several breads in bettyskitchen. Just search for garlic bread or bread while on my channel. You will probably run across this particular one! Thanks for your nice comment!
I recently learned we've also been duped by canola oil. But it is truely rapeseed oil, which is very toxic to humans. Many times more toxic to us than soybean oil (which makes vegetable oil). Our bodies are designed to handle natural fats found in dairy, etc., but toxins cause cancer no matter how technically "lean" they can claim it is.
Made this last night and loved it. had to use ricotta cheese beat with an egg as cream cheese isn't easy to find in France. you made it very easy. I'm a fan :)
@cutelli87 I have mixed feelings about even putting Italian dishes on bettyskitchen. Mine are very Americanized, because I did not grow up making Italian food. However, there are so many people who request Italian dishes and who do enjoy them, and, for that reason, I post them occasionally. I hope you are not offended that my recipes vary from traditional Italian foods. Thanks for your comment, anyway.

@bettyskitchen@bettyskitchen not at all offended betty, i just think ur a great cook, u remind me of my mother, no matter what she makes it comes out delish! i love ur dishes! although ide love to see how ''smores'' are made if u dont mind.
Hi Betty, I cooked this dish for dinner today and it was great, my family loved it, even my little one year old ate it, thank you for uploading your recipes and giving us tips as well.
Thanks for the recipe. I felt like Lasagna, didn't have it for Christmas so I did it similar but more traditional. I like more pasta so I used a pound and used 1 lb riccotta and 1 lb mozzarella instead for the cheeses and did more layers. We liked the campanella pasta as much as the regular long noodles.
It will be in a large baking dish, and if you are serving it with only a salad and some Italian bread, you should cut it into squares, allowing about 2 squares per person. That way, it would serve about 6 people generously. Thanks for your question!
It is a great choice for New Year's Eve! It is easy to do, and it *never* fails! I serve it with a green salad and French or Italian bread--wonderful dinner!
thanks betty for inviting me to be your friend on youtube. we tried your recipe and let me tell you it was a winner! i watch what my family eats and appreciate that you normally use low-fat/fat free ingredients. more power to you and have an awesome new year :-)
Yes, you definitely may use regular--most people would prefer it--I was just trying to save calories for my weight-watching subscribers! Thanks for asking!
Delicious!! I made this last night and it was a huge hit. I added some homemade Italian sausage to it but didnt change anything else. Great Recipe! I will be making this again very soon :)
I have a really great recipe for lasagna. I posted the one that I thought more people would be likely to try, because it is so easy! I will try to get to the other one--I'm running behind on my request list!
Ok you lost me when u put cream and cottage cheese in here lol I hate both. Is there anything you can sub for those two. Maybe ricotta because that is what Lasagna usually has in it. Your thoughts?
Ricotta cheese would be great. Just substitute an equal amount in place of the cream cheese and cottage cheese--It will be perfect! Thanks for the idea!
I just wanted to let you know that I made this for our Sunday dinner and both my husband and I loved it. I will certainly be making this again and again. Thanks for posting this wonderful EASY recipe. :)
This is a casserole that cannot go wrong (unless you put it in a baking dish that is not large enough to hold it--it is a large dish!) My family *loves* it!!! Thanks for your comment!
This looks delicious! It will be on the menu this week at my home!
I have kind of a silly question, but here goes!
I have noticed the measuring cup (used with the Parmesan cheese) in several of your videos. It has a handle and a spout for pouring. I think you have used different sizes of this cup in other videos, so maybe it is a measuring cup set? You probably have had it a long time, but I wondered where I might be able to buy it. I'm thinking that I need one...or a whole set !! Thanks! :)
Thanks for your compliments! I'm glad you are going to try the lasagna casserole! Regarding the measuring cup, yes, it is old--like 25 years old (or more). I don't even remember where I got it, but I don't think it would be available today. I have found that I have to drag out about every measuring implement I own to do some of these recipes--but I have so many of them, I can hardly keep track. Thanks for your question. I wish I could have been more helpful with my answer!
Thanks for answering, Betty. I thought it might be something you have had awhile. I cook a lot, and I have many kitchen utensils...but I have never seen those cups. If I ever do see something like them, I will snatch them up! Thanks again for your answer...keep the great video's coming!
Wonderful recipe! I looove Lasagna (well I love pretty much anything Italian) but it is quite troublesome to make. This recipe most certainly takes the trouble out of it and saves a lot of time :) I will surely give this a try. Thanks Betty =)
You are very welcome! This is the *easiest* you can get when it comes to making something that tastes almost the same as lasagna! It tastes really great!!! Thanks for your sweet comment!
Aisha, this is one of the *easiest* recipes to make! If you like the taste of lasagna, but not the trouble, this dish is wonderful! Thanks for your sweet comment!
i always have a hard time with sauces. sometimes i over use to much sometimes i don't use enough. i love this recipe. glad you didn't use lasagna noodles. i think they ruin the taste in lasagna hehe. :) i will defiently try it your way
Thank you for *all* of your compliments! I think you will like this lasagna casserole--It is *so* easy, but the taste is great! Thanks for your sweet comment!
looks great... lasagna is my favorite.. i use the lasagna noodles, your way looks even better.. i might have this for dinner tonight.. have a wonderful sunday !!! :-)
I love the mix of cheese and sour cream. I always make pasta casserole with rigatoni's or other pastas but I only use ricotta and mozzarella for the cheese. Next time I am trying cream cheese and sour cream with my ricotta and mozzarella. Anyway yours looks great.
Oh Betty, I'm so hungry! This looks fantastic! Love how you can just spoon it out rather than cut! Another great recipe!!! You look beautiful as always sweetie! :-) Have a beautiful Sunday!
Legendary. Someone made me this recipe when I was post partum last year, and I've been looking for the recipe since then. :)

hi betty, we dont have fat free cottage cheese and sour cream where i live. is it ok to use regular ones?
akcl828 2 years ago
Yes, you definitely may use regular--most people would prefer it--I was just trying to save calories for my weight-watching subscribers! Thanks for asking!

Any chance you could do a video on actual lasagne? i've been wondering how i can make my own white sauce for ages.

Your thoughts?
tonsoffunwwe 2 years ago
Ricotta cheese would be great. Just substitute an equal amount in place of the cream cheese and cottage cheese--It will be perfect! Thanks for the idea!

Thanks! :)
themandigirl 2 years ago

I love the mix of cheese and sour cream. I always make pasta casserole with rigatoni's or other pastas but I only use ricotta and mozzarella for the cheese. Next time I am trying cream cheese and sour cream with my ricotta and mozzarella. Anyway yours looks great.
