I think the lady isn't pregnant. at that time (like british ladies nowadays all seem to have beer bellies) is was very common for women to have that size of a tummy.

the two figures in the mirror indicate that it actually is a marriage picture, because it was common to be wedded at home, without a priest and only accompanied by 2 witnesses.

Actually, given the obvious pregnancy of the Lady in the portrait there is a very good argument that it was painted in memory of her, hence the husband's glum expression. Odds on she died in childbirth.

In that time in europe people didnt get marry like we do today, they only had to proclaime themselves married. She is not pregnant, the dress makes her look like that. The artist is not just the painter but a witness also. I studied that painting in art class.
