  • Bring back British Rail and loco hauled expresses on the WCML!! :(

  • One of the finest corporate ads ive seen and brings a tear to my eye every time i see it. It is such a shame, our envied rail network,it is such a shame. :(

  • R.I.P. British Rail. A great railway with an unfortunate demise through privitization

  • @ 1:55 they could of chosen a clean hst, but i guess that was the 80`s were nobody gave a damm bout what people thought ;-)

  • You can see a crystal clear copy of this ad on the director Hugh Hudson's page on the RSA Films website!

  • @brianhollwoodfawcett Thank you!! How wonderful to see it in full, original glory.

  • The IC 37 on the WHL is brill

  • i will give 2 pounds to whoever tells me the naem of the song

  • Hello the music was composed and performed for this advert by Vangelis, the composer of Blade Runner and Chariots of fire. It has never been released. You owe me two pounds :)

  • vangelis composed this?!!! respect is truly due.

  • Sad they couldn't show any sign of the lovely era of steam.

Ah well, still a brilliant advertisment. Will always be my favorite.

  • Thank you Bentley!

I've wanted to see a better copy of this for some time. I was in the UK watching Christmas TV by chance when this was launched. I also recently discovered that, while the British Film Institute has a copy, their copy has no soundtrack. This is valuable and I'm interested in hearing from anyone knowing where I can obtain a better copy.

    Thank you!

  • The clip of the HST heading north over the Royal Border Bridge is a good un, I was driving it! 43064, was the number, if anyones' interested!

  • I think this must be one of the best corporate ads ever filmed. Not only is it beautifully filmed but it also very well illustrated the scope of BR's operations. It is now a real look into a lost world, both when we had a national integrated railway and British owned heavy industry. A lovely bit of nostalgia too for the days when there were 'proper' locos on the railways. :-)

  • My word you arte right, look out for 1.39.Anyway I still think this is a very good vid, shame most other TV adverts are not up to this standard, well done for posting !!!

  • there is a "static click" at 1:39. you may want to look at it.

  • Thanks for uploading a MUCH better version!
