Thanks to the Radio station in Cleveland for discovering the biggest band ever to come out of CANADA that NONE of the record companies up here gave a rats ass about! Now having said that , i think its about time the Rock N Roll hall of fame people get there heads out of their asses and get RUSH into the HALL OF FAME! Each year theyre kept out it only increases the insult that much more!
Thanks Drew. Did you see Mike Portnoy in the Rush Documentary on VH-1 classic? He was talking about when he was a kid and his drummer friends would argue about what was harder to play and one guy would say "Okay you can play YYZ but can you play La Villa Strangiato?"! I love how Neil Peart talks about how he feels good when he plays "Tom Sawyer" correctly because it's hard to play!
There are bootleg sites that you can download this whole show from. You may have to register but it costs you nothing. Just Google Taurus Pedals From Hell.
Thanks, Ric...and yes, Hemispheres is Rush's finest hour and this song is one of the best instrumentals ever recorded. But oddly enough, I also have really come to Signals more than I ever have.
I have listened to this song several hundred times since I purchased it in eight-track tape format back in 1978. I didn't think this song could get any better than the studio version. But this version is magical from 4:01-5:48. The time delays make the solo more sweeping in scope. Alex's conveyance of emotion in this solo resonates within my soul. Thank you Alex, Geddy and Neil for a lifetime of reflective music.
@rickyon thanks weird you said dc 101. im in the md dc va area and we have dc 10i here too how the heck can you get dc 101 if your in mo???internet???lol thanks rush rules!!!these new maggots these days cant shine there shoes!!!
Finally and for all time FUCK that phoney bullshit alleged rock and roll hall of shame and all the ignorant pole smokers that have anything to do with running it. I take that last back bcuz it's an insult to pole smokers everywhere.
Rush isn't in the hall of fame because most of their albums have very conservative themes... so much so that half their most famous songs are either about or inspired by Ayn Rand books. The hall of fame is run by a bunch of Commie liberal bastards. Of course they are not in the hall of fame with a bunch of leftists running it.
@TommyHolly1 First off, Ayn Rand wasn't conservative, she was libertarian. Second, there are lots of Rush songs with libertarian/liberal themes: The Trees ("The maples scream 'Oppression!' and the oaks just shake their heads"); Territories ("They shoot without shame in the name of a piece of dirt"), The Weapon ("They shout about love, but when push comes to shove they look for the things they're afraid of"); Witch Hunt ("Those who know what's best for us must rise and save us from ourselves")
@sirscroddy I hate to burst your bubble but Ayn Rand didn't call herself a Libertarian either even though she was extremely influential to both. (Not that there really is a difference anyway?) Don't get too caught up on labels since the definitions change usually due to the propoganda of another group with opposing views. Whatever you call Rush, they are completely at odds with Marxist ideology and that is why they are not in the Hall of Fame which was my point. Same team bro... =)
These guys are waaaay above the r-n-r hall of lame. The fans hold librarys full of respect for this band. They don't need any more. Want proof?...they're still making great music out of the sheer love of it. RUSH rules.
Would love to hear the live version of Hemispheres from this tour. The last tour to do so in it's entirety and my first Rush concert. Talk about being blown away! Haven't missed a tour since!

@pinkfloydrule27 My RAM is insufficient but the meat of it was there. I do remember them playing Cygnus X1 from AFTK before Lerxts favorite chord segued straight into Hemespheres. (The same chord that opens Far Cry from S&A's) No matter, I would kill to have that recording in my collection.
@exleper64 yes love that chord he uses it in xanadu aswell and several other songs from this era i think it makes an appearance in 2112 aswell if my memory serves me from my days of pooring over rush records holding my guitar
Yo rickyon, I was living in the D.C. area back in '80 and caught them at the Capitol Center that year. Awesome show! I'm going to see them this Sat. in Palm Beach Fl. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Years ago, I worked with a guy who saw Rush in St. Louis
on their 1980 Permanent Waves tour. It was his 3rd time
to see them in 4 years, and he said that the Taurus Petals
were at their best.....deep growls and a very smooth whining
sound. Wished I could have been there!!
