  • Thanks to the Radio station in Cleveland for discovering the biggest band ever to come out of CANADA that NONE of the record companies up here gave a rats ass about! Now having said that , i think its about time the Rock N Roll hall of fame people get there heads out of their asses and get RUSH into the HALL OF FAME! Each year theyre kept out it only increases the insult that much more!

  • Years ago, I worked with a guy who saw Rush in St. Louis

on their 1980 Permanent Waves tour. It was his 3rd time

to see them in 4 years, and he said that the Taurus Petals

were at their best.....deep growls and a very smooth whining

sound. Wished I could have been there!!

  • T M I !

  • Possibly my all-time favorite Rush tune! Rick, once again you never disappoint with the rare recordings and pics!

  • Thanks Drew. Did you see Mike Portnoy in the Rush Documentary on VH-1 classic? He was talking about when he was a kid and his drummer friends would argue about what was harder to play and one guy would say "Okay you can play YYZ but can you play La Villa Strangiato?"! I love how Neil Peart talks about how he feels good when he plays "Tom Sawyer" correctly because it's hard to play!

  • Forgot to mention, this is my all time favorite Rush album!

  • I had a bootleg of this entire show back in the 90s. Man, do I wish I still had it!

  • There are bootleg sites that you can download this whole show from. You may have to register but it costs you nothing. Just Google Taurus Pedals From Hell.

  • @rickyon

Thanks, Ric...and yes, Hemispheres is Rush's finest hour and this song is one of the best instrumentals ever recorded. But oddly enough, I also have really come to Signals more than I ever have.

  • You're welcome.

  • I was 19 years old in 1980!!!

  • very , i mean VERY VERY FANTASTIC !!!

  • I wish they played it more like this nowadays; LOOOVE the Moog too

  • Alex rules!!!!

  • Now that's what Taurus should sound like , if only Rush were still using that sound today .

  • rush ---- gods

  • How in fuck can a band of Canadian white boys be some diggty doggity FUNKY?

  • @ebonics4everyone whats diggty doggity?is that ebonics for great?

  • fantastic music , something to cross the solar system....

  • 7:19 scared me a little bit...still awesome :D

  • I have listened to this song several hundred times since I purchased it in eight-track tape format back in 1978. I didn't think this song could get any better than the studio version. But this version is magical from 4:01-5:48. The time delays make the solo more sweeping in scope. Alex's conveyance of emotion in this solo resonates within my soul. Thank you Alex, Geddy and Neil for a lifetime of reflective music.

  • some solo there al!!

  • how does he play the bass and moog at the same time?? dos he have 4 hands??

  • Moog Taurus Pedals.

  • @rickyon thanks weird you said dc 101. im in the md dc va area and we have dc 10i here too how the heck can you get dc 101 if your in mo???internet???lol thanks rush rules!!!these new maggots these days cant shine there shoes!!!

  • The concert that this recording was taken from was in Missouri. I live in Maryland. Severn to be exact. I've lived here all my life.

  • Respond to this video... the double necker geddy has is off the charts sick!!just sick!!!

  • @GRILLBUOY101 Alex does much (not all) of the MTP's for this song. It's incredible to witness.

  • @GRILLBUOY101

this might be a computed instrument... timer, program etc.

  • what amazing talent these three have... a confluence of three virtuosos coming together, how lucky we are to listen to this!

  • Finally and for all time FUCK that phoney bullshit alleged rock and roll hall of shame and all the ignorant pole smokers that have anything to do with running it. I take that last back bcuz it's an insult to pole smokers everywhere.

  • 7:20, lol wht was that? he sounded like a ewok

  • Man, Alex was on fire that night.

Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed it.

  • You're welcome.

  • That pic at 8:51 geddy's smile is just too infectious!

  • pure genieses

  • Rush isn't in the hall of fame because most of their albums have very conservative themes... so much so that half their most famous songs are either about or inspired by Ayn Rand books. The hall of fame is run by a bunch of Commie liberal bastards. Of course they are not in the hall of fame with a bunch of leftists running it.

  • @TommyHolly1 First off, Ayn Rand wasn't conservative, she was libertarian. Second, there are lots of Rush songs with libertarian/liberal themes: The Trees ("The maples scream 'Oppression!' and the oaks just shake their heads"); Territories ("They shoot without shame in the name of a piece of dirt"), The Weapon ("They shout about love, but when push comes to shove they look for the things they're afraid of"); Witch Hunt ("Those who know what's best for us must rise and save us from ourselves")

  • @sirscroddy I hate to burst your bubble but Ayn Rand didn't call herself a Libertarian either even though she was extremely influential to both. (Not that there really is a difference anyway?) Don't get too caught up on labels since the definitions change usually due to the propoganda of another group with opposing views. Whatever you call Rush, they are completely at odds with Marxist ideology and that is why they are not in the Hall of Fame which was my point. Same team bro... =)

  • @TommyHolly1 ayn rand ;great writer

    rush;great band

    rock hall of shame;big leftist

    obama;priceless piece of shit

  • the way the guitar solo builds up is ridiculous (in a good way obvi)

  • every time i hear this one live i got chills!! They perform LVS so damn wonderfully outside the studio

  • Rush. Don't know where the a came from...

  • Big fingers?!

  • Ruash is in a league of their own just as much as The Allman Brothers are!!! There is none like them or the Allmans...

  • These guys are waaaay above the r-n-r hall of lame. The fans hold librarys full of respect for this band. They don't need any more. Want proof?...they're still making great music out of the sheer love of it. RUSH rules.

  • "rock and roll hall of fame" is a bunch of BS for idiots, like "hard rock cafe" ... i'd be proud to not be in that stale wax museum ...

  • The QUALITY of this audio is fantastic! Keep up the good work!

  • Man the sound quality is superb from this recording. Had to be from the board...is this entire show available for download?

  • Google "Taurus Pedals From Hell".

  • seriously, who can stand up to rush

  • 1 person can't hear

  • Holy crap. At 8:06, The boys really mash the gas pedal, don't they?

  • how is alex not considered a guitar god by everybody with ears?

  • @jr55ful I think he is regarded a guitar god by those that matter.

  • @jr55ful everybody with ears must be 5% of world´s population, and Alex IS a GOD indeed!!!

  • thepiratebay(dot)org/torrent/4686207 here is the show for you torrent users its THIS show

  • same show different name for those of you who are torrent users, this is this show!

  • 4:05 solo gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it. Alex Lifeson is one of the most underrated guitarists in Rock. Rush is THE best.

  • Someone needs to upload this whole show on MegaUpload.

  • Google search "Taurus Pedals From Hell"

  • great

  • Would love to hear the live version of Hemispheres from this tour. The last tour to do so in it's entirety and my first Rush concert. Talk about being blown away! Haven't missed a tour since!

  • @exleper64 I didn't know they played hemispheres in 1980!

  • @thebigguyconnor

They did at the Forum in Los Angeles! I was sitting 14th row! Just blew me away!

  • @exleper64 holy crap!!!! AWESOME!! I gotta get a bootleg of that!!!

  • @thebigguyconnor

That would be cool but it was never included in any of the radio broadcasts. Let me know if you find it!

  • Would love to hear the live version of Hemispheres from this tour. The last tour to do so in it's entirety and my first Rush concert. Talk about being blown away! Haven't missed a tour since!

  • @exleper64 it was in it's entirety they skipped out one or two sections but it is still a complete epic

  • @pinkfloydrule27 My RAM is insufficient but the meat of it was there. I do remember them playing Cygnus X1 from AFTK before Lerxts favorite chord segued straight into Hemespheres. (The same chord that opens Far Cry from S&A's) No matter, I would kill to have that recording in my collection.

  • @exleper64 yes love that chord he uses it in xanadu aswell and several other songs from this era i think it makes an appearance in 2112 aswell if my memory serves me from my days of pooring over rush records holding my guitar

  • Yo rickyon, I was living in the D.C. area back in '80 and caught them at the Capitol Center that year. Awesome show! I'm going to see them this Sat. in Palm Beach Fl. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Taurus Pedals during a Lerxst In Wonderland warm my ears.

  • Thank you so much for the info, rickyon

  • You're welcome.

  • I was at that show. My drummer recorded this same thing off of KSHE 95, and we rocked out to it all the time. It was so cool to be able to listen to our all time favorite band from a show that we were at . The tape has been lost and long gone. I thought I would never hear it again.... Little did I know 30 years later I would get to hear it again..... Thank you so much, and bless you.... PS hey do you have XANADU from that same night. I like to hear Geddy say St. Louis

  • It's a little late for me but I can direct you to a bootleg of this show so that you can have the whole thing. It's been given the nickname "Taurus Pedals From Hell". If you want to Google it and try grabbing it yourself go ahead. If you need some help let me know!

  • I saw it live two days ago!

  • I thought all the critics hated them

  • THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YOU'RE WELCOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the beat Peart starts around 4:00..so perfectly fits with the guitar, low sweeping key tones..impeccably eargasmic

  • Terrific sound quality! Way to go!

  • Thanks!

  • zaqwert, Listen to 2112 overture and tell me that his voice isn't perfect for their type of music.

  • Wow... they should have used this one for Exit Stage Left. It is superior to that version.

  • Nice i lived in Baltimore then and taped it on WLPL 92.6 i believe It was the Rock station when 98 rock was young.

  • @ejrush2112 oh it was 92.3! wlpl

  • This is a really good quality recording! Nice one!

  • Thanks!

  • I love Rush, I love their early songs but (I know this is going to stir up a hornet's nest) BUT Geddy Lee's voice is too much. Being unusual isn't necessarily good. Having said that I can't imagine their best songs being any good without him. Like Spirit of Radio or Tom Sawyer.

  • His voice is unique and being the musician that he is his singing is always appropriate. Variety is good and this guy and others like Bon Scott, Brian Johnson etc. make music great. Not everybody can sound as good as Ozzy!

  • @zaqwert777 Would you rather him have a carbon copy of Eddie Vedder's voice?

  • @zaqwert777 He sounds the same as Robert Plant or Bon Scott, but I don' see anyone bitching about their (awesome) high pitched wailing.

  • I can appreciate that, as a big Rush fan myself. His voice isn't for everybody.

  • @zaqwert777 it fits. i couldn't really imagine anyone else singing rush songs

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This sounds unbelievable played through my Bose wave system...

  • You're welcome! Wish I had a Bose Wave System.

  • What did you use to record this with? It sounds pretty much flawless.

  • I used a top of the line TEAC cassette deck. I can't remember the model # because of cobwebs in the brain and I owned several different models.

  • this is when Geddy still had his voice, sad but true

  • this is an instrumental, silly (lol why would you say that on a vid with no singing)

but i understand wat you're saying. I actaully believe his voice peaked in terms of musicality in the mid 80s, although it was probably stronger than that earlier in time, but he wasn't using it as musically

  • I'm 49. I'm from St. Lou and I was at this concert. Eat your heart out!

  • You lucky dog.

I bought a vinyl recording of this concert in 1986 for like $20.00.

My brother moved to St. Lou about 2 months after this show. RUSH RULES!

  • I stiil have the stub. My ticket was only$7.50.

  • That's pretty cool.

Compare that to the recent shows with tix going for over $150 in some cases.

  • After all these years this song still gives me goosebumps

  • Hey this is from DC101, right? Was Howard Stern on the air on that station around the time of this concert?

  • I believe he was and I think the Greaseman was on a competing station also. I really can't say for sure because I'm terrible with Dates!

  • Excellent montage! Great pictures! Great version ! Rush....Best of the world! Excellent piece of music!

  • Thanks Patrick!

  • wtf at 7:20? lol gotta love geddy!

  • These guys had fun when they played!

  • Holy shit those Taurus pedals shake my entire house!!!

  • @RollTheFemers i agree u can hear 2 different ones i think one for the high parts in the strangiato theme and one for the growly bass in other parts

  • Hey rickyon type tis in Utube search, it is from the show I was telling you about, I had a bootleg when it came out F'n Awsome tracks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Rush - Natural Science 2-14-1980

  • another great Post from the best bands still Thanks alot!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You're welcome!

  • Hey Dude Ive been a rush fan 4 over 30 yrs now, been doing some major post on all these old school rush post and have been tryin to get ahold of this "St Louis 2/14/80 show in its entirerty any clue or hints

  • Fuck the hall for not inducting them! RUN-DMC??????????????? Are you fucking kidding me???????

  • run dmc are legends in there own books.

  • @bitter37 Goes to show that "hall of fame" shit is just a scam....Rush is a band for you and I, the people and RUSH would not want it any other way!

  • @bitter37 Damn those twisted hall of fame runners. Induct them NOW or they are gonna fucking piss me off really bad. This is by far the best band in the world. They sound like a 6 person band, their 3. God the Hall of Fame pisses me off. And you know whats even worse? They took Pink Floyd

  • @ClubPenguinMovies123 It would be a bigger insult to Rush to actually have them grouped with some of the garbage that's in the hall of fame.

  • @ClubPenguinMovies123 its dumb that rush isnt in it, but pink floyd does greatly deserve to be in the HOF ...

  • @bitter37 More like Blondie?!?! Madonna?!?! WHAT STUPID FUCKS " Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" not fucking new wave disco shit hall of fame

  • @Devilsean Blondie, Madonna and Run DMC have each helped to shape entire genres and create great original music. So while I agree that they shouldn't be in the HOF (for the reason that they're not exactly "rock n roll" besides Blondie I think they are fine being in there) to minimize their accomplishments and not give them the respect they deserve is just as bad as the disrespect the hall of shame is giving Rush, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, and whether or not I like them, Kiss

  • @bitter37 VERY TRUE! I'm a hardcore beatlemaniac and I think it's ridiculous that Rush isn't alongside them in the HOF!

  • @bitter37 yeah it's all political BS

The true hall of fame is our album/CD collections.

  • Absolutely spectacular. WHAT A BAND!!!

Thanks for posting this gem. And the sound quality is excellent!

  • You're welcome Armando!

  • HA MOO CHOO LA CAMBIA

  • yes mine aswell rushequalslove i love all thier older music the best though :)

  • Where's the pic at 7:59 from?

  • It's from a website called Getty Images. You can Google it and it's a huge site so it will take some searching!

  • It was taken at the Pink Pop Festival in June '79. There are some vid clips from that show on YouTube.

  • Are you sure? His hair's a lot shorter in this pic than it is in the "La Villa Strangiato" vid from that show, and his pants are different.

  • A black fingernail on the left hand would decide it for sure. . .

  • um, yeah, except for that i don't think there is.

  • wow very fuking cool !!!!

  • My favorite song of theirs. An utter masterpiece.

  • WOW!!! Nice photos...some I've never seen like the one at 2:08; whic appears to be from the Down The Tubes Tour.

  • OK ...since no one else wants to say it....Great job Rick. Excellent photos, well put together, always a cool tune. You'll never find another one take wonder such as this.

  • Thanks Jerry,I finally posted something from the second part of your name. One of my favorite songs from my favorite Rush album!....Rick
