The concern with this repair is that metal tends to get harder and more brittle when worked mechanically. This can cause the wheel to fail because the crystalline structure has been altered. Auto manufacturers recommend using new wheels and steel ones are not that expensive, considering the price of a car or the lives of yourself or others. The machine is neat, but I'm wondering if there isn't a way to anneal the wheels once this is done.
@fixinggrace It should be annealed first. Just heat it cherry red with a torch and air cool, then straighten. The steel will work harden as you straighten but no more then it does when the wheels are formed.
How is this process carried out on an alloy wheel?
