cheers 2 all u good hunters..... first let me say that when we go moose hunting we always shoot grouse and we try not to shoot them on the fly ....and were real hunters that not many people i know can match me on the wing i shoot 95 to 98 on the trap and bealeave me i can prove it .....if knows anything hunting its more sportman to shoot em on the ground cause you can retreave em ...ps i,m sure the kid was moose hunting ..... good video kid .. and for the wannabes kiss my ass...........
i live in alaska and let me tell you that this is pretty much how we hunt them. you find them eating small rocks and gravel, shoot them, and eat them. its alot better than being on a snowmachine and just slaughtering them. the snowmachiners pretty much wiped them out were i moose hunt
All you people who say its unsportsman like to shoot a grouse on the ground can shove it up ur ass.. there is not one thing wrong with someone taking a grouse on the ground!! thats like saying using a dog is unethical because your not finding the bird on your own your dog needs to do it for you.. its bullshit. o and for all u who think its unsportsman like.. i got 2 on the ground with one shot last week haha!!!
holy crap, i cant believe some of these comments. I hunt grouse every chance I get once the season starts, I have yet to ever even have an oppourtunity to shoot one on the fly. These arn't pheasants that live in a field, they live in the thickest bush you can find because they spend the majority of their life on the ground. I challenge anyone to shoot grouse on the fly in that kind of habitat. You wouldnt even have room to swing your gun.. Nice to see a family hunting together, good vid.
this is how all of B.C. hunts grouse and not only that usually when you are shooting grouse from the road it is because you are going hunting for something bigger as in deer or moose and good luck bringing a dog with you doing that. it is just a bonus when you get a grouse or 2 for dinner. oh and good eye for the second grouse. I also shoot with a .22 not a shot gun so to all of you americans out there that think its a "challenge" with a shot gun you need to think before you speak

thank you for hunting ! I enjoy it I wish I could hunt enough to have food on my table for the whole year but with the price of ammo going up and idiots who think we shouldnt hunt who just hire people to kill there food its hard Thanks again !
410 gauge with # 4, 3 or 2 size shot goes good for partridge, especially a .22 with these 2 guns you can always hit the head, everyone prefers a 22, because ive been using a 22 since i was kid hunting partridge best gun i ever had along with the 410 pump action
Alright, about "ground pounding" or "ground batting" grouse. I'm from northern Ontario, and have been hunting grouse with my family since I was old enough to sit on an ATV. I shoot grouse on the ground because it's next to impossible to wing shoot grouse in northern Ontario. You're lucky to make the bird take flight first of all, and it's not like we're hunting wide open hardwood stands. We're in very very thick bush where you couldn't see a bird in fight 20 feet away. most of the time.
kidcommito you are ignorant more then he is he hunts the way he wants you hunt the way you want the only reason he said those words is because of ppl like you and you can look up in the dictionary the word hick that is a slang and means nothing of what you intended it to be
im well aware of this, thats why i was not in the vehicle when i shot and yes i is illegal to hunt from a public road but that road is an inactive logging road with moose camps all up and down it , plenty of moose are shot on or from that road every season
@dzastins you might want to check the laws buddy.it is illegal do discharge from a vehicle but how do you know he shot from his vehicle? its depends on the county but if is on a non mantained road like he has indicated and theres no by-law in that county he did nothing wrong.
Very sad to see you are training your son to be a poor sportsman. Shooting grouse on the ground is unsportsmanlike, and doing so from the car is likely illegal depending on what state you are in. Posting this video on the web is fuel for the anti-hunting groups!
Buy or adopt yourself a bird dog and learn to hunt properly!
would you people shut the fuck up about this im sick of hearing you piss and moan what the fuck is the difference the birds gunna end up dead anyway and ive had lots on the ground that have gotten away just s easily as i they were in the air, i am NOT a POACHER i do not illeagally, shooting grouse is shooting grouse and its a free country so you hunt whatever way you want as long a its legal, i bowhunt deer and if you know anything about that thats as sportsmanlike as you can get.
I hunt grouse the same way you do, and the reason I do is because I don't like my grouse full of bb's, so I aim slightly over there head. That's near impossible whe they are flying.
@solton10 stop wasting your time, logging roads are not considered public roads,,hence LOGGING road, its perfectly ok, and fine, you get out and shoot, thats all.
@solton10 exactly fuck all the damn americans :P they wine about a grouse on the ground hahah theres not a thing wrong with shooting grouse on the ground its still a challenge a lot of the time
@jpjones2010 What is unsportsmanlike about shooting a bird on the ground? I meen really come on. IF your going to eat it who cares. Whats next people are going to start saying that its unsportsman like to shoot a deer or moose thats standing still that they have to be running to be a true sportsmans. If it is legal than who cares. Meat is Meat no matter if its on the ground or flying when shot. Solton10 there are plenty of other people who hunt grouse on the ground or in the trees too.
@jpjones2010 so if you were riding to a favorite hunting spot and happened to spot a bird on the way, you wouldn't stop and try your luck? give me a break.
and whats wrong with shooting a bird on the ground? i dont use a dog, only MY eyes, MY ears, and MY skills...figure if i am good enough to locate a bird, and get a shot before the bugger takes off ON MY OWN, then good for me. i'll take the shot everytime, because that kind of luck doesnt happen that often. so quit the 'holier than thou' crap
Patruick94 is dead on right. I have hunted grouse almost everyday in the fall for years and have yet to swat one from a car. If my dad had seen me do that he would have shoved my shotgun up my rear end. Neat you're training you're kids to give 'em a sporting chance. It's great you post you're hunting prowess on the internet as well. Helps the sport a lot.
whatever u say bud honestly i couldnt care less wat you have to say, ill hunt the way i wannt to hunt and ill post a video of me doing it if i want. Shooting grouse on the ground is not illegal and if it was thhan yes i would wait until they fly i have shot plenty of grouse out of the air but wat does it really matter the bird it dead either way.
Not only is your video perpetuating your ignorance but clearly so is your rebuttal. Why don't you learn some proper grammar and spelling you ignorant fucken hick...
@solton10 why does everyone have this whole sport mentality, its sport this and give them a chance hunting was NEVER A SPORT! it was a way to eat, and if you want to shoot it on the ground, thats fine. jeeze its not illegal to shot on the ground. its part of the HUNT to eat what you kill, its like those fisherman who release EVERYTHING and give you the smart ass comment of "well you know i could just go to the fish market and buy it" well fuck that, eating is part of this activity GOOD FOR YOU!!
i have to agree with you i think hunting from vehicles is cowardly and im a hunter too by the way i walk and stalk my prey the whole time i usually use a .22 when i hunt grouse tho but that really doest matter just preference.
i agree with "justlooking34" you should wait for the bird to fly...especially with a shotgun...with a bow in my opinion it is fine to shoot em when there on the ground.. but seriously give it a chance...i practice with 20 gauge and i could hit them in the air no problem...wear orange next time..and don't shoot em on the road...go in the woods and actually try.
yes i should have been wearing orange and i always do whenever im in the bush i know its no excuse but it wasn't like we were tramping through the bush with antlers on our heads we were driving down an open road in a truck.
Why in every video I see are hunter ground swatting birds? I have hunted grouse almost my whole life and have always shot on the wing. Ground swatting seems unsporting.
Do we need a license to hunt grouse in any part of Ontario? Thanks

In Ontario, it's illegal to hunt from a vehicle, and illegal to hunt on a public road.
If I were you, I'd pull this video.

dude me too. I have shot all of my grouse with .22
that way I can shoot it in the head and dont hit the meat at all.
there were several times when I was able to reload my single shot and shoot two in the head.
