From the 20th century a more liberal vision developed (F.D.R) The "Civil Rights Act" was signed into law by L.B.J. & before that J.F.K. established affirmative action by executive order. 19th cent. dems did fight 2 keep slavery & Republican Abe Lincoln did abolish it but J.F.K. & L.B.J. were the ones 2 try & make that freedom mean something. Study up, sounds like u need a history lesson or 2.

@TheJasonDR Wrong! J. Edgar Hoover used the FBI independently from the Whitehouse 2spy on political &social leaders (including JFK). He's widely criticized 4 using the FBI 2 investigate w/o permission. LBJ passed the Civil Rights bill knowing it would cost him the south & did it anyway along w/many other dems. The south is now, partly as a result of this, republican. They vote against their economic interest bcuz of social issues like race and religion. Common knowledge

Affirmative action is about allowing minorities to have the same opportunities as white people. If a university can favor a student whose parents are alumni or because they donate money to build a building then why shouldn't they be allowed to consider the struggles of a kid from a economically disadvantaged group or area?
