True Faith was the song that got me into New Order - and it was also the song that led me to other indie bands and alternative music. Absolutely fantastic song, and an absolutely fantastic band - at least in their early days (pre Gillians departure).
my morning sun is a drug that brings me near; to the childhood I lost replaced by fear. I used to think that the day would never come that my life would depend on the morning sun...
Sigh... Goosebumps for anyone who can relate to those words.
IMO, the "True Faith" single was one of the greatest singles of all time. And do you know what the B-Side of "True Faith" was? "1963". Almost a double A-Side!
this probably doesn't have anything to do with ian curtis, but with someone who idolizes his drug experiences to the point of mythologizing them and almost treating them as a girlfriend. he had some sort of childhood potential- hence "the price of destiny comes to nothing"...
It's funny because almost every fucking New Order song, someone says it's about Ian Curtis. Blue Monday? Some people say it's about the day after Ian Curtis death. As far as I know, True Faith is about smack or drug addiction. Some people are simply obsessed with Ian Curtis.
True, Ian Curtis was unique, but you people don't have to force-fed his name on every freaking New Order songs. IMO, New Order is at times superior than Joy Division. Not all Joy Division songs are great and definitely not always better than New Order.
Great track, it's too bad they can't make intelligent rock/electronic music like this nowadays. It's a great clip, but a shame they had to edit the bridge part of the song. Maybe Barney fucked up (cuz he was fucked up) the guitar solo.
That's because you like the typical harder sound of countless other covers of New Order songs. Either make it harder and tougher with lots of guitar or use acoustic instruments and slow the songs down. Just take a look at Blue Monday from Orgy for the more hardcore version of a New Order song or Bizarre Love Triange from Frente! for an acoustic version. Very typical.
New Order were just getting on with life like every other cuhnt. Thats the end of it. Far too much emphasis and mythology is placed on them. Working class guys who liked drink, drugs , dancing and partying in general ... as simple as!!!!!!!!!!
Grow up. Why do Joy Division fans have to be such cry babies all the time? I'm sorry, but Ian Curtis is no more. Barney, he's still a alive and thank goodness for that. There is more to music than just depressive songs.
I love New Order! Depeche Mode will always be my number one, but NO is my 2nd favorite band - I never compare the two, they peacefully coexist in my heart :).
New Order is more respected. They shun there fame. And have gone through more trials than depeche mode ever did. And are still doing whatever the F they want and they are doing it there way. The record company doesnt say sh!t. And you still see bands NEW and old bands say they get there sound from them. Every hear of a guy named Bono of U2? Also a little trivia, they STILL have the #1 most sold 6" for Blue Monday. But they never made any money for it.
How can a great band such as Joy Division spur a crummy New Order if it should be the same band. Never liked New Order No matter what I heard from them, but I tried, felt them very weak and whinny
To each its own but no matter if you like their sound or not, it is undeniable that New Order is an innovative band and that makes them amazing. I consider them superior to Joy Division which I also like.
Tiger Tikka, although your probably smart and like good music or whatever, Im afraid that the comment you just made is ridiculously stupid. Define real music? Ill give you £50 if you can find a good band that hasnt ever been influenced by joy division, or new order. Saying they suck is like saying that everything sucks, so just take it back.
Dude, I was joking! I love New Order... though my favourite song of theirs has got to be.. well I forget the name. I only remember some lyrics from it: "Faults from above hit the people down below". Anyways, ciao.
I would say that New Order were influenced (or ripped off!), Tears For Fears. The chorus of True Faith are the same chords as Mad World, and Everything's Gone Green sounds very similar to Pale Shelter.
Yeah, I know. If you're looking for blatant plagiarism / laziness (and I don't care that they asked for permission) Coldplay's "Talk" is a rip off of Kraftwerk's "Computer Love". New Order influenced by Kraftwerk, Coldplay can't think of their own ideas so nick someone else's melody instead. New Order sampled "Uranium" from Kraftwerk's "Radioactivity" for Blue Monday.
I am a huge New Order / Joy Division / Electronic / Monaco / Revenge / The Other Two fan, and Bernard's nickname (that he doesn't particularly like) is BARNEY, not BERNIE. But Gary clearly says BONIE

Ian Curtis was a man with talent who died young, that's it that's all. Unlike many of you, I don't worship him.
