Good Review Tom. The problem with this game is it looks as it has borrowed ideas and mechanics from other games, therefore I wouldn't play it nor buy it because it's to similar to other games.
I was very "meh" about the game when I played it at Spiel '09, where I was about to buy it based on having read and really enjoyed the rules. I think it's too fiddly to setup, and point scoring at the end of the game is also a huge drag.
There is an unofficial 3 player variant: remove the following tokens: 2 shields, 2 amphores, 1 brick and 1 coin. Then make every shipping track shorter by one. The game becomes much more tense this way.
I got to play this one recently. It actually is a fun game. I just wish that it was still in print.

It did sound like the kind of game I would enjoy but it will not godown well in my gaming group.
I would get Endeavour if I did not have Puerto Rico in order to vary our games.
