  • It's been a while since I've been able to check on your channel but I look forward to some free time when I can. Came back to revisit this beautifully expressive, heartfelt performance- it's wonderful to just sit back, close the eyes and get lost in it. Thanks again!

  • Man, i'd love to jam with you sometime!

  • Andrew, well done! Bill Evans influenced it is but you spun it out in flawless format. ;D I'd suggest improving on this by adding some brass or strings.

  • Think classical simplicity! Andrew, you are one of the most promising musicians for your age I have ever encountered. Whatever you do, do not let yourself be diverted as I was by stupid, abortive careers in e.g., aviation and medicine. Yes, there is lots of competition out there, lots of skill, but you have the discipline, the knowledge and the heart of a proper musician more than anyone I have seen. Express your true self as you find him, not what you think others want to hear. Good luck.

  • Andrew- You have a beautiful soul, in fact you seem to have a beautiful everything. I write from the standpoint of only a fellow musician, and I do not necessarily imply any superiorty on my part to be sure, but I humbly suggest next you write this sort of thing, give some thought to a clear melodic statement on which to hang your beautiful chords and modulations..something sort of like maybe the beginning of this: watch?v=iq5AfeIWSwE My best for you at Berklee! You will be great I know.

  • @acbulgin2 thanks for your suggestion, I'll be sure to keep it in mind for next time. The melody for this tune is actually quite simple, I just change texture each instance with slight variations in harmony (I responded to a similar comment above by breaking down the form) as this composition and arrangement is very Bill Evan's influenced. Haha and I'm not at Berklee either, finishing my last year of study at Humber College in Toronto (Canada's answer to Berklee).

  • Humber must be great! I won't keep bugging you with replies. This is the sort of thing that shows great competence and sensitivity. Musicians are impressed by it. I guess I just like longer melodic explorations. You have a couple of real nice ones which begin but then get dropped in favor of highly impressive but perhaps musically dubious harmonic and technical explorations.

  • @AndrewKesler Last reply: This is really beautiful. Maybe you use too much material in one tune. You want to impress, and you do! Give your beautiful melodies and chords space to breathe! More isolated figures, fewer harmonies. It makes all things more powerful. Less is more! At least I think so. Now, when I can compose something better, I will let you know. ;-) You know, the more Iisten to this, the more I like it. Disregard all above comments.

  • @acbulgin2 hanks for your replies, it's giving me something to think about. I definitely see your point, my approach is pretty heavy, and I think that's ok for this, but I'll definitely explore "less is more" in future works. Sometimes when you have a tune in your head for so long and then you "spice" it up as I did with reharms, you can hear the original melodic intention easily, but it's not always clear for the audience as first time listeners. Your suggestions are always welcome! cheers

  • Beautiful writing Andrew! Bravo!

  • Andrew, you seem to be the 21st Century's Clare Fischer. Not a copy, just in the same class.

  • pure magic, absolutely brilliant!!!!

  • I keep coming back to watch this one, it's so good. Great dynamic, beautiful voicings... amazing job.

  • Respect Man !! All your music stuff !!!

  • You're amazing at jazz! I wish I could play jazz like that!

  • wow....this was amazing. great stuff, im happy ive subscribed! x

  • excellent!!! well done!

  • Quelle jolie composition Andrew. Bravo.

  • Andrew, a big hello from Asuncion, Paraguay where a group of enthusiastic musicians follow you. We wish you the best at Berklee. We had one of freat Jazz pianist study there for five years and he had a great influence in all of us. I personally admire you as a instrumentalist and now as a composer. I am sure will be buying you music. Looking forward to hearing and seing you in the tube.

  • @SROBERT123 Thank you kindly! I'm actually studying my last year at Humber College in Toronto. Like Berklee, it is also a very good program, in my opinion, the top in Canada for contemporary music (jazz and beyond). I really appreciate your kind words, and I'll do my best to make the best music I can. Thank you for your support, it goes a long way!

  • Wonderful!

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful. I'm glad I could download that mp3 and add it to my collection of piano music. Looking forward to hearing more of your tunes!

  • Amazing piece of work!!!!! Andrew you are on the brink of stardom. The stars that last in the music business are the ones that endure. Keep to your passion and let the fame and stardom find you. It will. You just placed yourself on a higher musical level.

  • I awoke today ambivalent about the new school year starting. What music to program, what trips to organize, fundraising, fundraising, fundraising...and then festivals, solo festivals, etc., etc. And then I hear this and read the history behind it. Well....your music, and your motivation for it, puts it all into prospective. We all need a little inspiration once in a while. Thank you for yours. (and now....onto iTunes to by this wonderful track!!!). :-)

  • uncredible... says a fan man...

    thank you

  • hypnotizing... I love the final chord *.*

Congratulations, Andrew, you deserve the best!

  • How beautiful. : )

  • @hartlebeast Thanks man,I love that passage too! Not sure if I quite understand "thematic material" from the perspective you're intending.I'll try and explain myself, this song is AABA with an intro and outro (both similar). The A begins at 0:49, A1(same melody with slight variation) starts at 1:19, B starts at 1:53, and finally A2 at 2:35. If "theme" refers to the melody, then that section is actually the 3rd time you hear it, I just handle it differently each time to keep things interesting:)

  • Amazing!

  • It's so gorgeous to see wonderful talent like yours, with the obvious passion for music you have; I hope to hear more lovely compositions such as this. Thank-you very much =)

  • Wonderful!

  • Andrew are by far one of the most, if not the most talented musician I have ever seen on the internet. Why you have not gone viral is beyond me. You're probably too good for that! I guess you are too busy and too far advanced to consider my school now. At least when you are famous, I can tell people I knew your music long ago! Keep up the great work guy.

  • @novaboy5 Wow, that's very high praise! Thank you very much indeed. In fact I find amazing people and musicians on the internet all the time that inspire me with their own talent. I am blessed that I've been able to cultivate my own music here on Youtube with some small success, but I don't ever really see myself as being famous ever haha. I just hope to make good music my career and also use it to connect with some great people along the way!

  • The lick from 2:29-2:30. What scale was that?! You played it so emotionally, it was just...beautiful.

  • @cbkuhlman It's a fast arpeggiation of an Ama6 chord (A C# E F#). But the reason it sounds cool is because it's an upper structure over the left hand C7 chord (C Bb E). So that makes a sick sounding C13(#11b9)!

  • @AndrewKesler I bet I'm the only 13 year old that understood every word of that.

  • Wow! Love the changes between tenderness and intensity. The voicing works well, and it makes me wish I could play as well as you.

  • SPEECHLESS

  • love it! mellow, authentic sound...like a cross between the free and cool eras. quite good.

  • @cherrypie14 I call it the "Cree" or "Fool" era of jazz, a very narrow niche!

  • I agree with Jim about the cuts, but still sounds awesome man. I like the reharm. I think you've got the jazz ballad down.

  • @daniscool99 What about the latin-midi, do I have that down too? ;) Thanks man, glad to have your support. See you in a few weeks.

  • Wow. You are an incredible musician on whatever instrument you play. Love "Fan Man," it's a beautiful piece. Your videos are what makes YouTube amazing. Ever thought of trying Bagpipes??

  • that was beautiful. thank you for sharing.

i would suggest a collab with trudbol, but i´ve noticed it is on the way. i can hardly wait!

  • By the way, I did just buy your song on iTunes!

  • As usual, you prove yourself incredibly talented. Your composition is beautiful. Your video is clear, your sound quality is astonishing, and your camera presence is pleasant. If there was one thing I would suggest changing, it would be your editing. Your quick cuts from one angle to another don't seem to fit with the beauty and tempo of your song. If I might suggest fewer cuts, longer takes, and an occasional dissolve from one angle to the next, I think this would be visually stunning.

  • @jimbobaroobud Thanks! I'll keep your suggestions in mind for next time!

  • Sir, this song brought a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat. A truly breathtaking piece of musical genius. I am hard-pressed to find something more beautiful. Keep up the good work!

  • kinda reminds me of a jazzy thing you'd hear on mr. rogers neighborhood.

  • Beautiful Composition!

  • Tasty! I love the octatonic scale 3:43-3:47. This is in my favorites.

  • Extremely diverse piece of music, although I have one comment on which you may agree, or possibly not. When you switch to a different phrase in the song, you completely let go of the damper for a second and to me it makes it feel like I'm going "out" of the song. Once you continue playing, I then re-enter. Not sure if you intended it this way or not. Even then it's not necessarily a flaw in the song either.

  • This is fantastic, Mr. Kesler. Great job.

So I noticed that you do this thing with your mouth from around 1:45 - 2:00. Why is that? haha

  • @staarshineee I have no idea, it's like clenching my jaw kinda. I've noticed it before when I play music. I'm usually not too focused on appearances when I'm playing and I guess it's just how my body reacts when it's focused on something intently, like music.

  • Great job man! Fantastic composition, and the sound of the recording is top notch.

  • marry me.

  • @MsMagicCarrot that depends.... are you really a magic carrot?

  • @AndrewKesler

    Yes i am..

But you can call me Caro :D

  • Absolutely Beautiful!

  • I have to say, you're talented. Well done man.

Your video descriptions look very familiar... I wish you would reply to my FB messages too. :(

When are we finishing our collab?

  • @trudbol I can't wait too! Sorry since I got back from Italy I have yet to "shovel" through my inbox of invitations and messages. But I've noticed your in some sort of contest? I'll check it out when I get back from work.

  • I like, amazing sound :D

  • Being a true Kesler Believer, I've purchased Fan Man on iTunes -AND- made a ridiculously teensy PayPal contribution. Andrew is 100% worthy of investment. Do it. DO IT NOW.

  • Really nice composition! Congrats on that. Cheers from Europe!

  • I'm so e-mailing this to Fanner. :)

  • Great Piece. I hope the 'Fan Man' has been able to hear this!

  • yup I would be keen to watch a video of how you did this, and yeah general jazz reharmonization would be nice as well! :)

  • @baribassviolin Cool. I'm no expert but I don't mind sharing the things I've learned over the years. I just want to make sure it's a video at least a couple people will watch

  • You can tell the amazing detail you put into this piece. It's just breathtaking and definitely lifts your spirits. Lovely. :D
