  • this takes me back about a million years or so... i was in kent and i went to see a school show and a young lass danced to this track... never forgot it... hope she's still dancing...

  • 经常在妈妈的车上放brilliant trees这张碟......非常适合驾车郊游

    没有什么比你更好的了,小肥人

  • 'Timeless..hmmmm

  • Sylvian's Bruce Forsythian vocal timbre works well on this piece.

  • @mintybartlam Bruce Forsyth? No, I don't think so. David sounds more like Bryan Ferry.

  • I downloaded this.

  • Anton Corbijn is making the most beautiful movies now.

  • OMG!OMG!!! THE KID LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE ...MEEE!!!! SHES SOOOO LUCKY!!! T.T

  • I'm listening to "Secrets of the Beehive".

Sometimes, I think, better music was never created.

    I love England.

  • paul morley is not a poet . he is a fat manc. great song

  • Very cool that David Sylvian, Anton Corbijn and Paul Morley worked together

  • it seems to me that this is his most important song

  • I am listening to Brilliant Trees on my stereo at the moment.

I am feeling lost today and whenever I feel like this I always put on David Sylvian.

He has a way of speaking to my soul more louder than anything or anyone.

Thank You David for such spirit and meaning in your deluxe compisitions +

  • what is with the references to Jean Cocteau in Sylvian's songs? Orpheus, "the blood of a poet" lyric, and unreleated to Cocteau but Night Porter by Liliana Cavani. Was Sylvian just lifting artistic film titles?

  • @shockmastershocksu These are his well know influences

  • art pure.

  • This is the album I would take with me to Heaven.

  • Sylvian, Corbijn and Morley together...aww, that is magic :)

  • does anyone know where i can download sylvians "for the love of life?" plz let me know :(

  • okay, that was HILARIOUS! I laughed out loud reading that. Thanks for posting what I was thinking.

  • pleated trousers for whatever reason often times stick out awkwardly even if nothing is going on underneath ;)

    p.s. don't be crass

  • I can't stop laughing now hahaha

  • If that's the size of his boner no wonder Ingrid Chavez left him.

  • And there we have Corbijn again, coupled with 1/4 of the Art of Noise.

  • Sylboner at :36

  • we need more close ups!!

  • the difference between music sung and music composed is personified by this ...........inspirational to listen to as always.

  • I'm just nothing at all, David is a genious !! God bless all !!

  • well, the fact that you recognize Sylvian being a genious definitely makes you something ;-)

  • frank oniell loves this!!

  • Superb. I remember watching this repeatedly on Betamax tape, recorded off TOTP.

I think Dave Lee Travis introduced the song that evening. He looked totally bemused by it all. (He would do wouldn't he).

  • What is/was TOTP?

  • Top of the Pops

  • Great stuff. I slightly prefer Japan's last few albums but I still like this a lot.

  • one of my favorite, 10x

  • fascinating...words by paul morley, eh? wow, that's good :)

liking david sylvian's style too, nice

  • listen to the words?some guy.

  • his lyrics make me want to write things

  • I've always loved this song thanks for posting

  • Great song. Had all these on vhs. A "brilliant" album and a beautiful first departure from Japan. Thanks.

  • One of my fav songs ever.

  • moody b does it again!!

  • Brilliant choice in Britain's great bassist Danny Thompson and I believe the great jazz trumpet player Kenny Wheeler. But all credit to Mr Sylvian.. a true poet!

  • This is like finding gold among lead. Thank you SO much for posting this.

It is beautiful beyond any words that I could write...

Brilliant Trees as an album is a priceless jewel.

  • i have always loved japan and sylvian. they said that about ferry comparisions etc,but he was never that. frustratingly enigmatic and aloof maybe!

  • I love the way he is often on the very edge of the melody, often only hinting at it or weaving in and out of it.

  • i think he's a great lyricist. makes astounding moves in a near perfect solo career.

    i guess i am fan.

  • Generally thought of him as a Ferry/Bowie pretender, that is until Brilliant Trees was released. Superb.

  • love this album.

  • Of it 's time - Great video - the most under rated artist of our time

  • Wow. Didn't know there was a video for this song. I just assumed there was not one made since DS seemed very concerned with shedding any imagery from his music at that time. I'm glad the record company made him make several videos for his first album. Videos like this don't get made very often. Thanks again for posting this clip.

  • Typo: Polaroids

  • I've been a big fan of Japan since "Gentlemen Take Polariods" and "Tin Drum", but Sylvian was in his element as a freelancer.

  • This is one of the most atmospheric, classic

and underrated tracks of all time.

  • An excellent Singer!!

  • underrated of the most underrated musician of his time

    a musical genius

and his brother steve jensen a master of the drums

  • I listen to Brilliant Trees constantly for 20 years-it never dates

  • did any one notice at the recent tour that things must be tight after the divorce hes still wearing his white shoes twenty years on ! class bloke and musical master

  • True art is timeless for sure. ;)

  • Timeless.

  • David is simply the best!

  • i listened to this song on my record soooo many times when i was studying...i feel like it is a part of me now......WOW this song is of a timeless beauty!!!

  • Beautiful Song Beautiful Video Beautiful Man

My favourite artist for over 25 years and probably the most underrated British artist of my generation. Thank you for this body of his work you have kindly shared and posted here.

  • chilliconsylvian - me too! Can't seem to get enough of Sylvian and his music, and still love Japan...

  • Thankyou for sharing this - you have great taste!.

  • Grazie moody! Una canzone che scalda il cuore.

  • Thank you Moody!

I loved this song very much when I was a teenager.

  • When poets dreamed of David, Picasso was painting the ships in the harbour.

  • Oh again bless people for posting this stuff. I bought this album on release as an eager teenager(ahem).I loved his voice and always thought he and Japan were criminally underated in the 80s , thank you for this.

  • thank you for saving this clip - for 20+ years I've always remembered the surreal moment when the sleeping(?) David is revealed as a cardboard cut-out

  • moodyb, i've come to appreciate you quite a bit. thanks for posting these things!

  • Why thank you kindly!

    *Blushes*

  • As always, Thank you Moody :).

  • You're very much welcome!

It's a pity the BBC made me take down the rest!

  • Argh! Yes, that is a bit more than a pity, actually... Yes, I seem to recall that I had "favorited" (favorite as a verb?!) a video you'd posted, and I saw that it had been removed. I believe it was Blackwater... anyhow, great to know others on YT who appreciate Sylvian. I've subscribed to stay updated on your posts.

  • The BBC are arrogant assholes.

  • a taste of full pleasure ! thanks !
