Question: new rider, just got a 2011 ducati monster 696. What i'd like to know is if there is MPH per gear that's somewhat normal. What are the speeds in each gear. For example what's the max for 1st, 2nd, 3rd. How fast can you go in each gear without causing major harm to it. for now, i'm doing alot of cruising arouond my house, not even really gettin out of 2nd gear much. I just want to make sure i'm not hurting it by the speeds i'm going in 1st and 2nd gear. thank you!
The power issue I noted myself because I rode a 796 and placed it just a bit slower than the ER-6 I had at the time. Of course the engine was green and I couldn't wring it out. But I did really like the bike though!
if your new to bikes its a good bike...what sort of idiots in a position of giving advice are you recommending a 120mph bike to a beginner...oh thats right its a bit underpowered according to you...fucking blockhead advice that'll kill someone....BTW Ive been riding since 1965 and a Monster has more than enough for any sane person not out to maim themselves, and is defineitely not for an inexperienced rider
lol i'm american and i was shocked when he said 5.5 thousand pounds but then it registered... i never actually got to ride this bike but i did sit on one and i really love it and the price is really nice in america
You don't have to hate me, just go to the store and try one you will be lost forever. But you have to know one important thing: you don't fire up a Ducati, NO, get the key in and bring it to life, it's like giving birth to a perfect creature. Yes, it's true, I'm in love with my monster. You can take my man, maybe you may take my dog, but you will never get my Ducati Monster.
i love the white one. i'm also a woman rider and looking for some new wheels. my husband is trying to convince me to get a japanese, but since i saw the new little monster last week at a dealer, i can't think of anyother bike i'd want. how is the handling? did you put on exhaust shields?
Your husband doesn't know what he says, hihi. Go for the Monster, ok, it's not as cheap as the japanese but that's with all good things in life. The handling is real good, Like I wrote before, this is my first bike and nobody believes it because I ride so well, and that's not because I'm so good, but because the Monster is so damned good. I didn't change anything yet, it'd still like it came from the factory. Get a testride and be lost for sure and ever.
I'm a woman, I never did ride a real bike before, went to the shop bought a Monster 696+ and ... now after 1000 km I can say "lucky me, I have my white Ducati Monster 696+ and I love him"
I just got mine yesterday and today I think I sat in my garage just looking at it for like 3 hours and then went out and did 300 miles, soooooo comfortable. The termi exhaust comes highly recommended, it makes the bike sound amazing (get it from a dealership and you get a better price.)
It looks pretty small, i can see a pasengger foot rest but i dont see a pasenger seat, do u sit on the plastic part if ur a pasenger? sory im new to bikes.

I've only been riding for a year and I started like many people with a ninja 250. It was the perfect starter bike for me, had plenty of power, was light and easy to handle. I got bored and felt the need for more power within a couple months but I still think it was a good move not to start out with a 600. So then I traded it in and got me an 848 and a 650 ninja.
I would recommend starting with the 250 (especially since the new ones look great) then trade it in for a bigger bike when ready.
Just stay away from the 650 ninja. It feels to heavy and the brakes and tires are horrible. Every time I have to stop quickly, I'm thinking (oh shit).
i got my motorcycle driving license in SEPTEMBER/2007.
My first motorcycle is the Ducati Monster 695. I'm not and insane rider, i like to make a few turns, and i use the bike everyday till now. I made some few mistakes driving (specially cornering) but i never had an accident though.
I think 695 or 696 are very good for first bikes IF YOU BEHAVE, N00bies because these babies are very powerful bikes (even being ducatis lowest engines).
I started learning on a 250 myself and had difficulty doing the exercises. I asked my instructor to let me try out riding the 500 that they had. Problem solved. He thought it was the weirdest thing since I'm 5'3 and weigh 121 lbs that I had less trouble manouvering a heavier bike. I got my license in the "heavy bike" category about 6 months later. Good luck with getting your license. Just try it out and see.
the only thing about that is a 250 gets boreing real fast. Its a good way to start rideing , but it gets old fast.Whay not spend a little more money and get a bike that he can grow into , with a 250 hell grow out of so, so fast. Its like getting a 27 ince tv for 3700.00 when you can get a 42 for 5300.00.Then hell have to dump the 250 to get an bigger bike.
or just get one of the older monster's. fantastic bikes, sounds amazing, look better than this new one (imo), and prices should go down quite a bit with the new one out. even though they're good bikes, sv650's are so common and have none of the ducati "wow" factor.
you're just stereotyping. Ducati's are no where near as bad as people make out they are. yes, they're not as reliable as your average jap bike, but stick your neck out and go buy something different.
Lol I have a ducati 916 and its broken down twice in the 5 or so years i have it, I love ducatis and wouldn't touch a jap unless it was an R1 and I love it every time i go out on it because its a ducati :D
does he mean it feels less powerful than the ER6N?

The plastic part on the back is called a cowl, it is simply aesthetic. It comes off if you want to carry a passenger.

aaron0288 3 years ago
Some buy the bike to ride it, not to make other people go "wow". With an older ducati, his only "wow" would be how often it's in for repairs.
