you guys are joking around saying ball and crap but 1 reason to throw a curveball is to get people to chase it out of the strike zone...ever noticed how mlb pitchers curveballs drop in the dirt sometime?
the curveball must be John's favourite pitch. He didn't stutter. For the record, my 9 year old hit John 408ft last week at a demo in Pittsburgh. It wasn't a curveball.
Everyone shut the hell up whoever is talking shit. I'm tired of going on his videos and seeing all these haters talk crap about him. He was in the majors, not shut up. I bet all of you wish you were in the majors, I wish I can when I'm older. So shut up.
Having a loose wrist is a good way to hurt your arm really bad. To all you young pitchers out there, do not listen to this guy. Keep your wrist straight and pull through the ball. A good way to practice is taking an empty water bottle and throw it like you would a curve ball. The bottle should go end over end if you throw it right.
@djalemextreme I think he's retired. And I guarantee he could strike out anybody who's commented on this video. Just calm down dude, why are you so pissed off about the fact that his curveball doesn't break like a wiffleball would? grow up.
@HelloImMateo Lol, i am calm but my point is , his curveball is worse then mine. im not just saying that to be a dick. My Curveball is my best pitch next to my knuckleball.
I throw my curve a bit different, the grip at least, everything else is obvious... Sandy Koufax threw his curve like JR here is showing, for any of the non believers Koufax made his living of his curve and his setup fastball. JR has it right.
If you are playing competitive ball and change your delivery up the way this guy is showing then the opposing batters will read you like a book and just sit on your curve.
i don't think its good to like go all the way down and stay back because its different than ur fastball and other pitch wind ups and the hitters will pick up on this very quickly and ur pitches wont be decieving at all..other than that great vid!
are you shitting me? if you dont stay back than 1. that takes away ANY sort of velocity he had and 2. the ball would either hang or break 5 feet before the plate. and you stay back on every pitch. fastball, curve, slider, fuckin splitter, whatever you throw. he meant just dont fall forward. you shift your weight at the end just like when you hit.. sounds like someone hasnt played baseball before
If you ever did pitch in a game you would know different.
You dont have to have both of your feet together then pause, you can simply move your front foot 6 inches and then pause and lift, its all on how you are taught and what is most comfortable for your own mechanics.
it all depends what kind of pitcher you are. Guys that throw really hard tend to throw forks or sliders because it looks like a fastball coming in but drops right off the table
it also depends on what you want out of your curve. A strike out guy will use a curve to set up a fastball or visa versa, a groundball guy may use a curve to setup a location pitch like a sinker or a fork. The curve is probably the second most versitile pitch after the changeup
this guy played in the bigs with the reds and marlins. he's not some fluke that is just doing this. i know this guy personally and he really does know what the hell hes talking about.
so from everyone whos critizing him, who's played in the majors?
do not post if you don't know what you are talking about.....the front leg does not hae to cross the rubber. he only has pause his motion. at 1:24 he has his legs wide, at 1:27 he brings his front back and pauses...then he throws. this is not a balk
Ha ha what a joke!!!!!! Some people really have no idea what they are talking about. Here's a quick lesson-----Getting your knee to your chin has no relation to staying closed JOHNNYBOY. Head over your back leg from balence to power = "Staying Back" Keeping your front hip slightly closed to the plate and landing on the inside part of your "Big toe" will keep you closed to the plate. Pitching GURU signing off la-ta
In a game, that is a balk. But not because he lifted his leg from there. If you played baseball, you would know that you don't have to pitch from the windup. He pitched from the stretch. Pitchers are allowed to do that, and they do when there are runners on base and less than two outs. The reason it was a balk was because his front leg didn't come back over the rubber. If he was pitching on the rubber, it would have. SO SHUT UP.
holy shit cmillsox! you dont have to bring your leg back behind the rubber! Anyone who knows anything about pitching should know that, and anyways, this is coming from an ex-major leaguer. I think he should know what hes talkin about.
wow u messed up =] u didnt wind up.. u lifted ur leg from right where u were standing.. u need to bring ur feet together and pause then lift ur leg... u probly knew that but yea.. just want other people to know so they wont "balk" every pitch
