And a lot of people care about technique actually when it comes to singing - usually MC and Bey fans are always going on about it, whereas truthfully Christina's technique is not always as good as theirs! But you're right, it's not just about technique - it's about conveying emotion which is what Xtina does a lot (except on this song)

She's singing at the funeral of her biggest idol and inspiration who she loved and was asked to be there personally by her close family and friends who obviously understood the connection the two had. She was already fighting back tears during her speech before she sang and she went off stage very quickly - you can tell she was emotional singing that song. And Etta herself said she was great and "like an old soul", and I'll agree with her on that.
