@ 2.77 seconds he would have jumped from 120 feet. Only with a HD camera could we tell the exact time. Not sure how you got your answer but I used physics to get mine.
@ThePerfectCure Indeed, and I did use the wrong equation, neglecting to square the time elapsed. I think 2.77 sec is entirely possible, and your 120 feet would then be correct. Definitely crazy-big!
(As an aside, you have clearly demonstrated that you are a superior being to me in math skill, toughness, hard-core bad-assness and overall intelligence. LOL!)
@rumealdegas I get frustrated when the height is diminished by incorrect math. As I personally would not have the balls to jump off this bridge, my buddy did and it happens to be the biggest ammeter bridge jump on youtube. People die from attempting this (maybe there are suicide attempts) and he compressed two vertebra in his back rendering him unable to make large jumps anymore... That is another reason I know its is over 100 feet...
@ThePerfectCure This I can understand. It is definitely a huge jump. My concern was that many videos here claim silly heights in an attempt to make them seem impressive. Many of them are extremely risky/impressive, but I am bothered by people feeling they need to apply unrealistic numbers to make them sound as risky as they are.
I think the 120 ft estimate is probably very close, and that would make for about a 60 MPH impact. Serious ouch! Your buddy went huge, and my math needed work. :)

Depending on the starting time, I would say he fell anywhere between 117 and 120 feet (it may be a little less than this due to air resistance). He was in free-fall for roughly 2.6 seconds. Not factoring air resistance, he made contact with the surface of the water at around 56.8 mph. Physics is fun - but also can be incredibly dangerous!
Bad idea jumping off that thing. Go to the cliffs down the road, hang out with some chicks, find some beer and live to see another day. No one cares that your so brave enough to jump off that thing.
I'm real familiar with this bridge and this area........This is one hell of a high bridge. Personally know of two deaths and two broken backs. Gave some thought to jumping as a youngster.......chickened out. We used to jump off the concrete pilings that support this bridge.....maybe 60-70 feet tops. Seems like your falling forever even at that distance. The cliffs the one kid is refferring to below arrorock are maybe 40 feet. Props to this guy..that took some balls.
@Tablekorner Whats your point. the 26 people that survived the jump lived through a suicide attempt and I'm sure they got fucked up. This jump is around 120-140 Ft. Land Wrong and your dead.
one thing that has to be considered with these equations which measure bridge height is that different cameras record at subtly variant speeds, so i wouldnt place much faith in trying to calculate height to the exact foot or meter. also something to remember is that when you film a jump from the same area the jumper leaps from as opposed to from a distant angle is that from the top perspective, the impression is that jumper gets smaller and smaller with descent, making the jump seem even higher
i jumped off the cliff right after the bridge ( that takes you to arrowhead damn) on the right. almost got arrested for attempted suicide lols. i think that cliff is 115 and its as high if not higher than this jump. i know for a fact i was in the air longer.
Wow, thats more than high!! Thats perhaps 32 Meters or more than 110 feet or more!! Was he fine because professional cliff Divers don´t go higher than 28m 90ft because the impact is too dangerous and hard..
this is def. high but i dont think its 144ft check out "butler bridge jump" its a bridge in tn that is fucking high as shit. there is only three people known to have jumped off the top and lived and two of them are on youtube

Try a little more then 30 feet. I was at the Talesmen center today and it takes exactly 3 seconds to jump off the fourth tower and land in the water. Any higher you would need to break the water or it would break you.... buddy it was 50 feet MAX. No joke your a tool.... but that was still sick yo! lol
you should record that jump, because either you friends are flying, gravity doesnt apply to them or you dont know how to count to 3, because as stated below, its eazy to find out how far you fall in 3 seconds, according to newtons law of gravity "An initially-stationary object which is allowed to fall freely under gravity drops a distance which is proportional to the square of the elapsed time" so1/2 of 9.8 meters X 3 seconds squared : 44.1 meters which is 144.65 feet because 1 meter is 3.28 ft
yeah... the only problem is you would have to have a high speed camera goign frame by frame to see exactly how long... because a fraction of a second when squared can through u off by allot... in the 2.5 to 3.5 second mark u could be off by over +or- 50 feet...
just saying... im minoring in physics and a also jump off the very top of truss bridges...
You have the right idea, but your math is off. Objects are accelerated toward Earth at a rate of about 32 ft/sec/sec. This means that after one second, an object is traveling 32 ft/s. After two seconds, it is traveling 32 * 2 ft/s, or 64 ft/s, and so on... My stopwatch puts this fall at about 2.5 seconds, which would mean impact at 32 * 2.5 or ~80 ft/s, which is about 55 miles per hour. Distance traveled under the constant acceleration of gravity is final speed / 2. 80 / 2 = 40 ft high. Ouch!
@rumealdegas that is the worst break down i have ever seen, go back to middle school. The first second it feel 32 feet and the 2nd second he fell 64 ft, with out it going an extra half a second you already have ignored 16 feet.
@ThePerfectCure Half-right. I didn't square the time. From Wikipedia's Equations_for_a_falling_body: Distance travelled by an object falling for time t: d = 1/2 * g * t^2. I did d = 1/2 * g * t.
1/2 * 32 * 1^2 = 16 ft fallen in the 1st second (not 32 ft). 1/2 * 32 * 2^2 = 64 ft fallen in the first two seconds. 1/2 * 32 * 3^2 = 144 ft fallen in the first 3 seconds. Thus, the math for your 144 ft estimate was right. I don't buy 3 seconds, though. 2.5 sec gives 100 ft high.
I live by lucky peak and absolutely no one will do it. i have wanted to forever, but I always drive by and am like, "fuck that is high." but yeah, congrats on living, many people have died there.
