The first Starship Trooper was a good movie. Good effects, good storyline, satiric vision of a military society. But the next movie, Starship Trooper 2... MOUAAHAHAHAHAHA !

This movie rips Heinlein's novel inside out and turns it into a cheesy satire. This is what happens when a Dutch filmaker adapts an American science fiction author's work. David Fincher, Ridely Scott or James Cameron would have done a much better job.

Ridley Scott's original director's cut was tampered with by the studio. He had intended to stay closer to the novel. But Blade Runner is still far and away superior to the saturday-morning cartoon that was Verhoeven's version of Starship Troopers. Had the film been done right, it could have been the cinematic 'HALO' before HALO even existed.

I love this film. Such a stark and convincing satire on military fascist society. I personally find the society depicted in this film one of the most terrifying in cinema. All humans seen simply as cannon fodder in an endless and pointless war that has consumed all of civilization.

Starship Troopers is a masterpiece. People say Verhoeven's crowning achievement was seen with RoboCop but I feel that ST supersedes it in every way. There is so much subtext going on in this film that I feel dizzy trying to keep up. I mean, think about the opening sequence and the ending sequence, is this even a movie? Or is it a massive advertisement campaign? Simply ingenious!

has anyone noticed how the look of the Mobile Infantry is just a knockoff of the Colonial Marines from James Cameron's "Aliens", even their machine guns look like bad copies of the PULSE rifle.

also, for anyone who has read the book, this movie isn't even close. The Mobile Infantry in the book is more like a Mech-warrior squad than a conventional infantry.

The Morita is a bullpup type rifle, but looks very much like a slightly larger version of the PULSE rifle, even having a pump-action feature. Colonial Marines would definitely win in a fight against the Mobile Infantry.
