@AbieyieLovesYou well..Maybe if you knew a thing or two about horses you would know the more you train horses to lay down the more of a bond they would have between you and the horse. Since horses are prey animals and when horses do lay down they are in a vulnerable position. If you do it right the horse won't think of you as a predator. The more you teach a horse that your not a predator the more it trust you.
@horsesLcool what do u mean. don't know alot bout horses? I just thought this looked abit forceful for the horse, like all the video's with people teaching their horses to lie down.. and, maybe it does create a bond, but I think riding creates a bond like anything else!
@eventhorizon I get what you mean. I guess, All i've done is riding, and that seems too create an amazing bond., horses already know that there is bond straight away between the owner and the horse. Horses think we are like herders, and horses find protection in that, thinking we will protect them from any predators. I think this is correct.
8 People must be Parelli freaks.... Horses are 1500 pounds animals that can kill you in one kick if they wanted.... THEY ARE NOT YOUR PET DOG! I use this method with all my horses, And their fine... I can't stand people that Baby there horses like there a pet that lives in there house. QUIT BABYING YOUR HORSES, Less would be going to slaughter. Babied horses Makes bad manners which means someones going to get hurt and eventually end bad for the horse. I love this method Good job.
I rellay dont like this way to get a horse laying down! the horses just fight so they dont have to get down by force. And after a while when u haved done it many times teh horse dossent care about what u do och dossent do with the horse. This is not a solution to get a horse down
I rellay dont like this way to get a horse laying down! the horses just fight so they dont have to get down by force. And after a while when u haved done it many times teh horse dossent care about what u do och dossent do with the horse. This is not a solution för get a horse down
obvisouly this horse trusts his human, so it was all right and relaxed ! you couldn't do that with every horse but in this case it was quite a good job !
The only thing I have to criticize from this is that he pas pulling the leg a little too much to the outside for my liking when he first tried to lay him down. would have been better to wrap the rope around the horses body as well so the leg was pulled more to the inside than the outside. would have been more comforting to the horse to have the leg under him if he was to lay down than to have it way off to the side where it could get pulled if he tried to lay on it.
That was amazing how he just went don like that!! And he doesnt look stressed...... Some people say using a rope is cruel but if the horse is fine with it then its okay.............. Do u have any tips with a horse then when u get her in the bowing potion keeps trying to get up.HOW LONG HAD U BEEN WORKING ON IT PRIOR TO THIS VIDEO???/ THANKS!

@Andrea9514 clearly in the horse was in any kind of pain he would have let him know.. he had his head down he was breathing normally and didnt even flinch, obviously you dont read body language very well.
@KMAClives2ride Clearly you don't proof read comments before you post them. I will NEVER make my horses lay down for me. It's not necessary and takes a lot of energy out of the horse. Oh btw, watch his ears and his back, he is tense and he does not like it. He also shouldn't have stood on his back like that. He put a lot of weight on one small area which is not good for the horses spine. I sure wouldn't like anyone standing on me.
that would be a good training technic *sorry spelling* for people that have hard time getting on a horses back. I have seen horses bow down so the rider can easily get on. I want to train my 4 yr old quarter horse gelding this trick.
@horselover1773 yah that would be difficult to try get on bareback with out stools. Especially when your on trail or any area where there is no stools or anything to get on a horses back. so training the horse to go down like that would be easier on the riders that can't get on easily from the ground.
thank you sooo much i have been trying to find a video so i could learn how to teach my arab he is so smart and i learns tricks so easily but all these videos do is show you how their horses lay down not teach you how to teach them. thank you this is perfect !!!
I recently worked with a horse who turned sour. I hadn't ever layed a horse down before, but I tried it with her. It worked wonders! She was hesitant at first, but once she started to trust me she layed right down. It teaches tons of respect for their handler. We saw a huge difference in her afterwards.
and i can guarantee you that this horse can be lead forward, sideways, and backwards by any of his legs and even his tail.... and clicking can be used for whatever you want, in this case it was encouragement, letting the horse know had the right idea
it wasn't forceful, the horse was just cnfused, it just took him a minute to figure it out. if the horse felt like he was being forced, he would've put up a real fight, and he never would've let his owner sit on top of him if he didn't trust him or stand on his back. mine are the same way, they know to move off pressure, but when i ask them something new they try a few different things, as soon as they start to do what i ask i stop & let them think about it b4 asking again
I didnt think this was abusive at all, this method is used all the time and horses are either well prepared for the ropes and pressure or not. I felt like this horse responded well to it Good job!!!
It wasn't forceful; if this really was the first time this horse lied down, it must have been well prepared for it. I saw no fear, just a little hesitant.
Either this horse already had a good trust in the man, or the horse has been mentally broken down before ad has just given up. But that is something we can't see in just this clip.
Holding the leg with a rope like that or in the hand has the only differense that you can stand without breaking your back, and maybe the rope is a tad harder to fight (more narrow pressure point), but the horse didn't even try that. The halter cue was strong and simple, necessary for a first time so that the horse isn't unsure of what you ask. If however, the horse was mentaly broken down and has just given up, it would be horrible. But that happens to NH trained horses too when you go too far.
i've taughten my horse to lay down on command, and the first time she did it, her reaction quite plainly meant "HELL NO!" but once she got down and i reassured her, she was quck to learn that it wasn't so bad.
this horse actually didn't put up much of a fight at all, although it might have been safer if he had used a light snaffle bit, but other than that, impressive!
it's a really good technique to use if you has a horse that doesn't really trust you, although it's scary at first.
urm, theres not much natural about this method to me, it looks a little forced, and im sure that if i did thid with my pony he would panic when i pulled on his leg...
@calagasxx it doesnt matter what the hell he done last year, if he would panic if you tried this then he is lacking in either trust or desencitising. a truly well rounded horse would trust you and be tollerent of you doing anything you want with it. i have high power barrel horses that my 11 yearold can laydown and crawl all over, they are mentaly well rounded
@coxfarms well now I come to think of it i guess he would be the only horse in the world who wouldnt enjoy having a rope tied round his leg that is pulled on untill he falls over...[though they happen to call it 'laying down' in this particular video]
Can you post another video of that guy laying down when you get farther so I can understand a little better. I have a Standerdbredd horse, but she doesn't pace and i trained her I had someone show me how to get her to trust me and i started last year in January and then until fall gave her winter off to mature and now I'm riding her everday, I'm thirteen and I'm trying to get her to lay down so she can lay down for now just me, but my brother my mom and relitves.

good method but....is it wise to try and lay the horse down between a trailer and a car? it could've been ugly if the horse had struggled badly.

If I weighed over a thousand pounds I'd be a little hesitant about laying down also.
I'd be thinking about having to get my fat ass up, no fun.
Sometimes they may need laying down for vet, etc.
Good to know how for their sake.
