Dude I'm trying to decide over the Nikon D5000 or The canon T1i... I'm leaning towards the canon cause of the 1080p... How does it do recording in 1080p???
How do you change focus while in video mode? Do you have to adjust it from the lens? Also, does it autofocus when something is brought near to the lens in video mode?
That ties into the DoF of the camera. having a shallow DoF allows for a more extreme change in focus of an object. the sensor on the Still cameras is big enough to achieve this dramatic change in focus, and is used constantly by amateur film makers.
WTF! crazy ass quality. good stuff man. i'd be scared to ride a bike while holding a camera like that though haha. very impressive HD movie quality. i always wanted a camera like that. but i guess for now i'll be stuck with my little canon sd780 haha. still thankful it records in HD but definitely not as cool as yours with the manual focus and better quality haha.
Google how to render HD Video for YouTube. I can't explain how to do it in a simple comment, it's a little complex at first but you'll get the hang of it. Your computer might just suck, too.
Yes, he's actually into downhill racing and can pull off some pretty epic stunts. Just hurt his knee(s) 1 month prior to the video was shot though so he was taking it easy.
The 50mm was used at the parts with the iPhone, my friend laughing, and the girl on the teeter totter(sp?) And the Sigma 70-300 was only used on the part for the squirrel. The 50mm f/1.8 II is a wonderful lens and worth every penny. The 70-300mm is complete garbage and I would recommend saving your money for a better telephoto lens.
I'm a still photo shooter but I am considering this due to the video capabilities. I've read reviews that say it is hard to get clean video, particularly while scanning or of moving objects. What is your take on this?
No, that only counts when you're shooting at 1080p (20fps) so you get the 'jello' effect when you pan left and right fast enough. At 720p (30fps) you experience none of this.
Hahaha....did you happen to read the description? It's not very hard to miss. Don't be ignorant, because Nikon's video recording doesn't even go up to 1080p yet.
And no, the lens was fixed focus the entire time. The only time you would've noticed him out of focus is if he came really close to the camera, wide angle lenses have a deep depth of field so the focus doesn't need to be changed much. If it were a portrait lens you would def. need to worry about the focusing.
i have this same camera and when i shoot in 720p it wont upload in HD. when i shoot in 1080p it will upload in HD. How did you upload in HD with 720p?
Can u suggest me one lens to buy with the body if i am more intrested in snaps like urban photography with bit of motion filiming. Shud i stick with the basic 18 55 lens or buy another one.
nice dude. what lens did u use for the bike scene? when you were filming the other guy. should I get this if I'm going to be doing a lot of filming aswell as pictures? also, did you film with autofocus on? thanks a million!
Sigma 10-20mm F/4 for the bike scene. And yes that would be a wise choice, seeing as it is a quality DSLR as well as a video camera. You can have autofocus when filming, but it's almost not worth using because it's so slow with most lenses. When you're filming with a fisheye or a wide angle you almost will never find the need to focus, anyway. Especially for sports oriented filming like biking and skating.
dope camera...I am sold. You need a fisheye lens for riding and you could make some really bad ass vids on your DH bike. did you hold the camera while riding or did you make some sort of mount?
Thanks. :) And yeah, fisheye lens is the second lens on my list...just need a job first. D:
It's a trials bike, and no there was only a tripod taped to the bike at one scene. I have another video where the camera was mounted on the front with a huge tripod extended, but it broke. In the future I'll have a video up with plenty of interesting angles.
Why would you even consider the Nikon in the first place? Your comments are very unintelligent, look up some stuff before you ask any more questions...
man i just bought this camera, should get it in the next couple days, got my first credit card haha.. thanks to your video and others, 20fps on 1080 sucks but its also a dope picture camera so ah well, and the night shots alone blows most camcorders out of the water!
btw RATATAT is one of my fav, get their 9 beats album
Nice dude. Yeah 20 fps at 1080 is only good if the camera's on a tripod really... Hahahah, still awesome though. I have it in uTorrent as I send this. :) Thanks for the comment.
Does this camera ONLY record in depth of field or is it the different lens that you have to choose? Because I really dont want to fix the blurr and focus all the time.
lol. I did research it after I posted that comment. Which was two weeks ago! Yeah, I tend to ask questions before researching. And right after I ask it.. I look it up on google. So I already did all the research I needed. I'm taking a photography class, so I just needed a beginner type dslr. And this is the closest and cheapest out of the other ones i could find. Thanks :)

Quick questions:
@ 0:18-0:31 - how did you focus the image from the background, and forground like that- how/which lense did you use to achieve this?
And lastly:
What lense did you use to film the riding from 2:30- till the end?
smrfox99 1 year ago
@smrfox99 a 50mm f/1.8 II - you can pick one up for about 100 bucks anywhere, the lens at the end of the video was a sigma 10-20
hope that helps :)

When you're shooting at 1080p, yes. You get the jello effect. When shooting 720p, it's hardly noticeable.
Keep in mind the jello effect can easily be fixed in some video editing programs.
