On a mac the quality of the casing components, the attention to detail and the fit and finish is the best out there. The performance of the hardware is poor and the operating system is OK as long as you do not intend on doing much right clicking. The mouse has and always will suck.
Haha. I was like that too. Now I don't trust my Mac at all. It crashes all the time. Soo many people have this same problem. A $1,500 computer that " just doesn't work ". I am surprised Apple aren't being sued for false advertising. How hard could it be to fix the problem, or at least explain to us WHY it crashes all the time. I am no longer an Apple fan boy. They promise the world, then sell you an overpriced average computer. Actually a computer that crashes every 20 minutes - 1 hour WTF ???

@apple8091, It just goes to prove that nothing is infallible like most Mactards try to make out. A lot of it has to do with user error when it comes to messing things up (on either OS) I've been running Windows 7 24 hours a day 7 days a week since September and I have yet to have a single BSOD, system crash or event. Meanwhile My old windows XP machine has ran stable for years until Capacitor aging affected system stability. It's all in the user, and I don't hate macs.

OS X is great for two reasons: They best understand the "user experience" - the layout, colours, spacing, fonts, and so forth are exquisite (it's not about flashy baubles MS), and 2) underpinning it all is Unix.
Mac fanboys should understand: 1) that the hardware is the same, or inferior to similarly priced Windows machines, and, 2) Apple went Unix because their own Mac OS 9.x was the worst. They could not program their way out the dead end they created, and had to migrate to another OS.

Ive used a mac for the last 3 years.. Java development - and have yet to experience a crash, even after testing applications on my machine. I had used a PC for ... 15 year prior to my mac... .NET development using VS and experienced at least a crash every other or two days...
Mac may be pretty respectable, but the software on anything could bring it down. If one of our nasty programs got on a digital planet of robots we could probably wipe them out.

Mac got my vote when Vista arrived on the scene, now with 7 I am resorting back to the land of MS... Macs are great for doing stuff like browsing etc and general use, but when you want to start playing around with programs and such MS is easier...
It gives you a feeling of warmth, I'd be blushing from embarrassment if I knew I paid for something worth twice the price I actually paid for it. I hope it does feel warm.

I have a MBA and it's still runs like new while a pc laptop in my house already heats up. I had a horrible experience with viruses! Windows is never secure and will always be! Macs rarely gets viruses. I guess we need to teach people to be safe. I don't know about anyone else, but my point is people are wrong into thinking Pc's are better. I also saw no evidence that Mac OS X can get hacked in 2 minutes! It happens to pc.

Honestly for me ive had lots of bad experience with my macbook pro. Although for me I think its more an overheating issue. I had no problems for almost an entire year though then it started crashing programs very often and having kernel panics like crazy. Im not in love with mac so much anymore but once i build my own workhorse pc ill probably buy a mac mini so i can still play the games i bought from the mac app store.

Snow Leopard has never crashed for me, I however had to restart my iMac last night when I couldn't close an application, even by force quitting it. Having said that, Windows 7 has never crashed for me either, and don't get me started about Vista.
I hate how people always think the other pc OP sucks... They are pretty even, and both can be better than the other. I PREFER Windows, after my recent upgrade to make it a gaming pc :P And btw, it NEVER crashes and NEVER gets blue screen of death. The only reason pcs will get BSOD is because idiots can't cool their hardware properly, or have incompatible hardware. The only reason Macs don't do this is because you can't change hardware.
@jpmac098 There are plenty of reasons why Windows will Blue Screen or otherwise screw up, it isn't just user error. it's less common now with Windows 7, but back in the day Windows would vomit for practically any reason. The reason 7 is so stable is because they've made a lot of the underlying tech act much more like UNIX. A lot of problems with Windows come from poorly made software. Macs have that too, but there's a bigger ratio of well made to crap because developers seem to care more.
@bitchassgirly Actually a lot of 3D work is done on Linux because they can be easily and cheaply clustered for the huge amount of rendering required. Most of the time they'll have a Mac or PC at the front end feeding the data into it from things like Maya or Modo or something (3DS isn't all that popular outside the game industry by the way). After Effects isn't the market leader in composition of effects either, Nuke is far and away the leader there.
I love the "I hate Macs but I'd get one if they were cheaper" people. So, you don't actually hate them, you're just looking for something to blame because you can't afford one. Brilliant. @RobloxProuductions I don't think Jobs or even Apple at large have ever claimed their systems never crash, they just say they're very stable, which they are, far more stable than Windows. I'm not including Linux here because there's so many distros that it'd be unfair to compare them all really. There's plenty of unstable distros flying around and a bunch of rock solid ones too.
Macs are way better than PC's, but it is untrue that they never crash... i use pro tools DAW (digital audio workstation) for recording and producing and production, and my macbook does sometimes complain that its being overworked...although pro tools isnt even available for pc's because they just dont have the processing power! Macs rule! and like this guy i have formed a bond with my macbook....im seeing the doctor tomorrow!

@Betageek52 They went from Motorola to IBM PPC then Intel. The Motorola to IBM transition was more akin to moving from Intel to AMD, same architecture, but with a few different things here and there that the software then took advantage of on the new chips. It was a much bigger transition to Intel, but they pulled it off impeccably for what it was. Their touch stance on abandoning legacy helped push it forward so quickly.
@kribar96 I've heard a few people say the best Windows computer is/was a Mac. So while it may be true, that's only if you get Windows set up on it. Even with Steam, the offering of games on the Mac is simply anemic at best.

Computers are used for far more than playing games. Video editing is the new big thing on "PC's" and has been for a few years now. Gaming is a fairly niche market on the desktop these days, it's all moved over to consoles, evidenced by the fact pretty much every "PC" game is a console port.

Snow Leopard has never crashed for me, I however had to restart my iMac last night when I couldn't close an application, even by force quitting it. Having said that, Windows 7 has never crashed for me either, and don't get me started about Vista.

I hate how people always think the other pc OP sucks... They are pretty even, and both can be better than the other. I PREFER Windows, after my recent upgrade to make it a gaming pc :P And btw, it NEVER crashes and NEVER gets blue screen of death. The only reason pcs will get BSOD is because idiots can't cool their hardware properly, or have incompatible hardware. The only reason Macs don't do this is because you can't change hardware.

@jpmac098 There are plenty of reasons why Windows will Blue Screen or otherwise screw up, it isn't just user error. it's less common now with Windows 7, but back in the day Windows would vomit for practically any reason. The reason 7 is so stable is because they've made a lot of the underlying tech act much more like UNIX. A lot of problems with Windows come from poorly made software. Macs have that too, but there's a bigger ratio of well made to crap because developers seem to care more.

@bitchassgirly Actually a lot of 3D work is done on Linux because they can be easily and cheaply clustered for the huge amount of rendering required. Most of the time they'll have a Mac or PC at the front end feeding the data into it from things like Maya or Modo or something (3DS isn't all that popular outside the game industry by the way). After Effects isn't the market leader in composition of effects either, Nuke is far and away the leader there.

@RobloxProuductions I don't think Jobs or even Apple at large have ever claimed their systems never crash, they just say they're very stable, which they are, far more stable than Windows. I'm not including Linux here because there's so many distros that it'd be unfair to compare them all really. There's plenty of unstable distros flying around and a bunch of rock solid ones too.

Macs are way better than PC's, but it is untrue that they never crash... i use pro tools DAW (digital audio workstation) for recording and producing and production, and my macbook does sometimes complain that its being overworked...although pro tools isnt even available for pc's because they just dont have the processing power! Macs rule! and like this guy i have formed a bond with my macbook....im seeing the doctor tomorrow!

indeed vista did suck so bad.... but there is windows NT and windows NT vertions are always in the middle of public operating systems ie xp vista 7 in fact windows xp x64 is actualy a NT frame if you will i use xp 64 or any vertion of xp because i dont like alot of frilly pointless stuff unless i install it myself i dont use mac because i dont like the way apple systems react to microsoft systems as well the way thay build in there security features witch i find annoying more then helpfull

@Betageek52 They went from Motorola to IBM PPC then Intel. The Motorola to IBM transition was more akin to moving from Intel to AMD, same architecture, but with a few different things here and there that the software then took advantage of on the new chips. It was a much bigger transition to Intel, but they pulled it off impeccably for what it was. Their touch stance on abandoning legacy helped push it forward so quickly.

@Quelkaima Why is gaming so important to so many people? And why does that translate to "this entire platform is shit because I can't use a tiny small subset of the capabilities said machine has". Computers are used for far more than playing games. Video editing is the new big thing on "PC's" and has been for a few years now. Gaming is a fairly niche market on the desktop these days, it's all moved over to consoles, evidenced by the fact pretty much every "PC" game is a console port.
