Suddenly I have flunked both history and economics and I have the mentality of a corporate stoogeand I don't think the "overcompensation of the scammers, mediocrities and incompetents called execs, admins, bankers, lobbyists etc is a problem and I will become a greeter at CostCo,(Walmart has greeters Costco has membership card checkers get your big evil corporate giants straight )Thank god I am loved however! Mikey the sanctimonious! Please forgive me I don't recognize myself!
It's a very sad trend, and I fear it's only going to get worse. Colleges are businesses, and they like to save money. Hiring adjuncts instead of full-time faculty (with benefits) cuts costs. Who cares about the effects? Let's save a buck!
I'm sure the problems mentioned in the video are real I just wanted to broaden the perspective. If one shows so little empathy for the problems of the vast majority of the worlds population why should anyone have any empathy for the "problems" talked about in such a smug condensing and self righteous manner.
Who is failing to show empathy? Your complaint is not even relevant. Of course there are people in the world who are starving, but that doesn't make it all right to pay full-time academics so little that they're eligible for food stamps. A greater evil elsewhere does not excuse a small evil in your backyard.
I served in the Army as a cannon fire directions specialist. We were in the field about half of the year (rain, sleet or snow). I also have a Ph.D. and understand everything these "academics" talk about. The worst part of this bargain for professors is that we were poorly informed of what the job market would look like. When investigating all of the books, articles, etc., that talk about the academic payscale, no one points out that many who do find employment will be at the low end.
Many years ago I worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philipines as an elementary science teacher. I made a little less than two dollars a day my classroom had dirt floors no electricity, forty to fifty students in a classroom,no texts, shared desks, very long hours, (shall I go on ) I find your perspective in need of a real world reality check. The biggest problem with most Americans today is they don't know what a problem is.The work ethic is nearly extinct.
i'm no fan of the peace corps, but i love your post dude. the same thing could be said for grunts in the military, living out your rucksack in the woods/field/jungle, plus the part about people trying to kill/capture you, all for a pittance of a paycheck. these academics don't know what a hard life really is.
It takes 6-12 years to earn a PhD. As universities corporatize to serve more "customers," they don't hire these workers full time. Instead, they make them adjuncts, pay $2000/course ($2000-$16,000/yr.) They work; the problem is how the work is classified and paid. While you volunteered to work w/ poor students, professors work to serve students who pay $40,000 to be there. By your logic, Americans should be happy to be homeless, because at least they have it better than yr Filipino students.
How long did you work there pal? I mean, good for you-I've worked overseas myself in a nonprofit capacity, but I don't expect to have to deal with third world conditions for the rest of my professional life. You're a bit sanctimonious aren't you? What do you do now that you're back in the US?
LOL Mikey- You have the mentality of a corporate stooge and are condemned to be a SLAVE.
So the absurd overcompensation of the scammers, mediocrities and incompetents called execs, admins, bankers, lobbyists etc.
measured against worsening undercompensation of everyone else is not a problem? Obviously you flunked out of economics, and history too. Arbeit macht frei !
Enjoy your destiny- minimum wage, no OT pay greeter jobs:

good vid. nurturers are expected to work without compensation, as most nurturers have been female; working for centuries without validation.
