This may seem like a stupid question, but I can't find the answer anywhere. Is there any difference between incline bench press and incline chest press? I'm looking to buy an incline plate-loaded chest press machine and some say incline chest press and some say incline bench press. Most of the pictures look nearly the same to me. Is there any difference? Any answers would really be helpful. Thanks.
@Jimboticon Always try to avoid machines when possible. Go for the Bench because it is a 'free' weight, meaning that you are the only thing affecting where the weight moves. Any free weight exercise will work more of your body than a machine will because of any number of supporting muscles used to keep the free weight stable.
Also with the bench press, you will have a removable bar that you can use for other exercises like squats, curls, push press etc.
@matklstrength I know what your saying and you definitively have a valid point. if i saw someone training without a shirt i would think there a douche, but on the other hand Im pretty sure he worked something out with the manager to let him train when the gym is closed after watching his videos he seems like a decent guy to me :)
@abcman machines don't make a workout easier; they make it more intense because you need to keep strict form and machines help isolate certain muscles. just make sure everything is adjusted correctly. of course you can still cheat on them or use too little weight but at that point you might as well get off the machine and let someome who actually wants to get bigger use it.
@abcman I've used the machine and yes it helps you lift more and helps stay to more strict form. Not only my opinion but many others will agree who have a lot of experience.
HI Scott, Your vids are great and you are in awesome shape..
I am just curious.. I am 140 lbs 5'8 .. I am doing the technique properly, and I am doing 4-5 sets Maxing out at 200lbs I start my first set at 140 lbs today and did 13 reps, gradually increasing weight and decreasing reps.. My final set I can do 6 reps... Does this sound good to you???
Scott, you have an utterly perfect body. And I mean that in the un-gayest of ways. What I do mean is that you are the perfect example of what any average sized man can achieve through regular resistance training WITHOUT STEROIDS. You're not huge (I mean come on, how many people are going to gain more that 15 to 20 pounds of lean mass without juice?) But I'm sure you're strong as hell and you look fantastic. Truly inspirational man.
Great video. I am studying to be a personal trainer with the NSCA. Hammer Strength was not taught in my program. This video answered a few of the questions I had about proper form.
Hey Scott thanks for the videos, they've been a great help. Can you tell me if weighted push ups will have the same effect as bench press. Since the barbell keeps wobbling. I'm 5'11 and i weigh 130 pounds and i'm thinking of starting with a 5 kg plate on my back.
hi scott how you doin , i weight 147 lbs and 5'11 i am trying to bulk , i workout 1 muscle group per day is that ok if no can you please tell me good musclegroup comobs , how many excerices should i do , how many sets and how many reps pls and thnk yu
love your videos, you're always a big help and what i like about you is, you're not the typical cocky gym goer, just a down to earth dude. keep the videos coming!
hey scott great vid. I don't know if you have already seen my other comments on your chest workout vid. I know you already have an incline chest video and incline routines in you Chest vid, but can you make an indept incline dumbell press vid? My gym does not have this kick ass incline chest machine, so I have to use the incline bench and free weights.
How long did it take you to get the body you have, I have just joined a gym and want to get ripped (having a few sessions with a PT to get started), will it take me years to get like you, I am 21 and 5ft10" and a guy lol?
Oh, and I want to do it without supplements, it is possible right, I mean in the old days people who built muscle didn't have such things...?
Hey Scott awesome videos was wondering what would you recommend for me i need to build the strength in my left arm as i have seemed to have slowed on the bench press and seemed to not move about a few reps on 150Ibs i need help boosting that should i stick with boosting it up on flat bench or perhaps the hammer strength is a better machine what would you recommend in my situation?
@ScottHermanFitness menn i still just cant figure out what does hammer strenth exatly mean? where is it for sorry im a beginner i saw this on my gym and i dont know what it is
@RusVodka1 Hammer strength is just a brand of patented machines. In my opinion some of the best machines out there. They mimic motions you would use with free weights usually using just ball bearings, as opposed to pulleys and gears. One of the advantages and drawbacks of these machines is like almost all machines is the lack of stabilizer muscle use, other than that they are extremely effective and easy on joints. I read somewhere some football trainers swear by them.
@sz42781 thank, well that question of mine was 3 months ago ahhaha, now i train 1ns a week for my chest with the inciline chest press hammer strenght, its verry nice and hard, thanks for your support and help peace
hey naughty scottie lol:)... im having trouble developing the split in my chest as in my middle chest. Do you recomend any exercises to get that pec separation??? ill be really helpful if you make a video too haha:)
Funny thing about using the chest press. For me anyway, I get instant pain in the back of my head, like a lot of pressure builds up. I don't get that pressure with normal bench press or free weights. Kinda weird. Don't know what that means.
@omfggoogle : Think about what you said for a moment, Can someone realy lift more on another machine than he can on another. That being that they are ment for the same purpose. If i go on the barbell incline bench, and do 185, but on the eazy machines lets call em i can do 200 ?, does that realy make sense to you ?, not to me. Those machines make it easier for you, doesnt mean your the one doing the work. Free weights all the way.
@ScottHermanFitness generally very informative whatever is depicted in every single video but i wish he could have some vids in order to workout at home
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a video on tricep flat press! the one where you're lying flat on a bench, same position as you would for a flat chest press, and you push the DB's up in a motion that works the triceps! I can't find a good video on youtube and I have trouble doing this with the barbell as do a lot of my friends so I'm sure it'd be well received. Cheers man!
