  • Keep the constructive stuff coming. Why in hell isn't anyone putting out a short, medium and long term strategy ?

  • all true!

  • There immediate ways to solve the problems but it will take drastic action. Wecansolveitorg is not one of them.

We Can Solve It recruits global memberships and donations but refuses to allow any products on their website unless it is made in the USA. That's not global thinking that is nationalism which is what got us into the shit world we are now facing.

  • fucking dickhead.

  • Nice argument.

  • Got to love those pity arguments. LOL

  • It's not the environment that they are really worried about, but instead it is the fact the easy oil is starting to run out. They cannot say "we are heading into a energy crisis", as that would make people go crazy and do stupid things like steal a TV (It's sad that there are dumb people like that in the world)...So they say we are hurting our environment to make us use less energy so that the non-renewable source will last longer.

  • OK so Eourpe was a head of us with the civil rights movement and there still ahead of us in stuff like health care and collage education but we had our civil rights movement because some people said this is enough and did something about it. People got into the streets to protest just like we need to do something about the climate crises.

  • I am just saying that they should craft a message that would motivate the critics to change. Getting less reliant on the middle east and russia for our oil would be a heck of a pitch. By the by, did you see that the experts now say that there will be a cooling phase for at least the next 10 years due to global current changes. In combination that the temperature of the plant hasn't risen since 1998 I would say the reliance argument is a little stronger anyways.

  • My point is that the civil rights move happened because some very brave stood up and did something about it like we need to do about climate change. And the planets temperature has risen since 1998. And most the sciencetist who say global warming is not real are the one's on the oil company's pay roll just like the scientist on the tobacco company's pay roll said tobacco does not cause cancer.

  • Check you facts. The global warming scientists are the ones saying that the reason for the last 10 years is because of the La nina, el nina, solar activity ....

  • HAHAHA, the Bush regime stole two elections, is kidnapping and torturing thousands of people, has shredded the Bill of Rights, and invaded another country based on lies and nobody has taken to the streets, yet you think people will rise up and protest over GLOBAL WARMING!? You funny joke man. Anyways, gotta go fill up my H2 and drive aimlessly around town while I listen to satellite radio! Toodles!!

  • Fair points - perhaps the sub-text ought to be "Throughout history, the US has waited until it was forced into change by terrible events, and then just at the last moment we put our minds to it and solve the problem - now is the time."

You're right about the self-interest being more likely to motivate than "let's just be nice" - the green movement needs to be a lot more inventive about how it sells change to the world.

  • It would also be nice if some of our presidential candidates would stop slamming each other long enough to start laying out a competent energy policy. If we had spent the half a trillion that we spent on Iraq on alternative energy we would have had a solution by now. Then the foreign policy landscape is dramatically different in the middle east. Peace, love, wings and beer.

  • No, that's still wrong. We invaded Normandy so the Soviets (who had already beaten the Nazis) didn't take over Europe. We established the space program so the Soviets (who had already gotten into space) didn't put nukes over Washington. Finally we "granted civil rights", because, blacks in the 60's (who had been "granted civil rights" virtually everywhere else) made it clear that they would burn our cities to the ground if we didn't. This commercial was neocon-style propaganda, plain and simple.

  • I had the same response when I saw the Wecansolveit commercial. We waited for Normandy while Russia bore the horrific brunt of a single front. "We can't wait" was the whole essence of King's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." And we did play catch up after Sputnik. I appreciate though that you haven't chucked the whole green movement. Our message should be: "Why are we waiting, when we know that American leadership can help?!"
