@ULTIMATEICEYOU We will never know but...it worked out for him. This was the first NASCAR race I ever watched so back then I was really excited despite not fully understanding how he won.
if i were mike helton or brian france i would get rid of the cot ver. 1 (wing) and ver. 2(current) go back to 2006 and older seasons with winston cup instead of nextel cup cars no longer do the two car tandem oh and remove the yellow line rule like in 2008 talladega when regan smith got penalized who otherwise have 2 wins instead of 1
Imagine the backlash had his car failed inspection. I was too young to truly appreciate what dale did for the sport as a whole.. I'll never forget 2001. What a horrible year that was, It woke me up to a lot of things. I always rooted against Sr, but when he died, I lost all interest in NASCAR for about 5 years. And then 9/11 in the same year.. Made me realize just what kind of people live on this planet, the worst of the worst type of scum... A bad year indeed...
yep it is not rocket sience u just stay up front and u block like dale did creat a stop sign for the drivers behind u and push to the front hammer down
I hate to say it but Earnhardt may have caught a break with the rules they were running under. The Green/White/Checkered would've made it a whole new ballgame. Or say if they don't throw out caution for the spin, which they often do this day and age since the wreck was behind them, Earnhardt created a big gap when he moved around Mask, Labonte would've had a run, although maybe Labonte doesn't go as wide into turn 3 as a move of desperation heading. Either way, the G.O.A.T. got his victory...
I get chills when they come through turn 3 after Mike Joy announces about the caution knowing they're comin' to the line and it'll end the race and that Earnhardt will win after 20 tries. Amazing job by Earnhardt! RIP Dale. NASCAR has never been the same since.
Classic Mike Joy commentary: "Twenty years of trying, twenty years of frustration. Dale Earnhardt will come to the caution flag, to win the Daytona 500!"
@TonyPizzaro Well, thankfully in 2011 we have a Green-White-Checkers and 3 times to attempt it, because yellow flag wins are bittersweet- no matter how long of a wait it is.
@metzdawg3000 one....you dont know that for fact, he couldve, and yet sr couldve passed him right back, and its daytona, you can go from the front to the back n back up front in the span of 2 laps
I just got chills watching this. I remember watching this on TV back in 1998 when I was 6 years old. I still get teary-eyed watching it. Thanks for uploading it :)
@rhbcweatherdude amen, I was 7 at the time, this was the moment that really cemented my love for racing (for life). It was quite possibly my favorite childhood memory. Its a shame the sport ain't what it used to be, it's a shame he is gone.
who are the 5 "dislikes"? Those 5 then do not like NASCAR...Dale Sr. was, and still is the best ever NASCAR driver...He is the reason why I first started to watch NASCAR in 2000.
@clintcheif2009 It's weird, isn't it? And now, the chase for the cup gives you 3 bonus points for every win you get in the season. Plus, it's now 3 bonus points for winning the race.
someone noted this was the best race in nascar history..well i was there, and it was electric as the #3 won, but the 1992 Hooters 500, the last race of that season, is nascars best race ever...Richard Pettys last race, Jeff Gordons 1st race, the championship coming down to DAvey Allison, Alal Kulwicki, and Bill Elliott, with Kulwicki winning the championship...never a better race than that one
@millienniumforce100 there is no true greatest spectacle in motor sports because everyone likes different things daytona 500 is awesome no doubt but not the best in my opinion.
@abdi5501boone u dont even know wat ignorant means then. if u admit to knowing nothing about nascar, u cant comment on it then and if u do thats called beung IGNORANT
@BookemDeno nope i was just randomly watching fast cars i saw this video and thought i would share my mind that's not being ignorant its called being out spoken...i don't know anything about nascar i know the are going in circles all day long trying to see who will be ahead of the pack by the finish line that's all i need to know about nascar...in the mean time you sir can go out play hide and seek and fornicate with a GIANT stick :D!
@abdi5501boone lmao 200+ miles an hour not fast? yep bookemdeno is right you are ignorant. there is all kinds of races out there that are fast. But this is one of the fastest other than Indy....lol formula is cool also tho but Daytona 500 is the holy grail of autosports. You could go to the lemans in europe and 100% of those driver know of Daytona lineage and speed as well as sheer strategy
I was at this race. When I told the people around me that I had a dream that Earnhardt was going to win, they all laughed at me (it was obvious that I wasn't a NASCAR fan). After the race they were completely goggle-eyed with astonishment.
Im glad dale got a 500 victory. He should have won i like 5 times but daytona for some reason had it out for dale. cutting his tire on the final turn with a lap to go. shit daytona had it out so bad for dale that it even killed him. but I guess daytona was like hey Ive given you so many problems in the past years Ill give you a win
"20 years of trying, 20 years of frustration, Dale Earnahrdt comes to the caution flag to win the Daytona 500" screw "gentlemen star your engines" that is the most famous phrase in racing
I always thought, if it went green to the end, Labonte would have took it. I was never a fan of Earnhardt. Bobby was coming and needed that last lap. He had the best car that day. At least after this, we didn't have to hear the whining about Earnhardt never winning it every year.

After 2007 i stoped watching Nascar and that was my Favorite thing ever i mean The COT made me leave i watched some races this year all of them sucked compared to the 90's im prob done forever COT ruined Nascar
@gamerwords Now with the Chase, the COT, and all the other stupid rules, NASCAR sucks now, and it's no coincidence that it started sucking when Brian France took over.
Everything that made Nascar so awesome during the 90s can be summed up in these final 5 laps. It's sad to think we won't ever see racing like this again with all the rule changes and cautious driving that's so common today.
let's see... dale took 20 tries and made the #3 famous... that means mark will need 40 tries since he made the #6 famous... so mark would be 65 at the youngest when he wins
i miss this moment so much, i'm a huge Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan have been all my life, he was my hero growing up and was considered a father figure to me cause my dad couldn't be around for me...i get the goosebumps from one of the songs when i hear his voice and hear him say "your probably gonna see somethin you have never seen on fox." and i believe that it sure wasn't what we all wanted it to be i thought it was gonna be the 2nd 500 win for him. that night i cried non-stop till i fell alseep.
I wasn't a huge earnhardt fan, but it doesn't matter. Dale deserved that win so much and even if you weren't an Earnhardt fan you were happy to see him win there at Daytona. If your not a fan of a certain racer and one of his wins give you goosebumps he is an absolute legend.
Certainly a mark in the record books. This is one of the greatest. It does, however, fall short in greatness to the 1984 Firecracker 400 with Petty's 200th win, and the 1979 Daytona 500 with the famous crash and fight. But this race here is one to remember.
This race is certainly one of the top 10 if not top 5 in NASCAR history. It shows triumph over what seemed as endless bad luck dealt by lady luck in the prior 19 years. This race says "never give up". One of the last real NASCAR races is shown right here. Today is about sponsors, yesterday was about glory and bragging rights.
I am a 5 year veteran crew member for Roush racing and I was there for this one. It was Dale's perfect day. Everyone in the garage from all the teams were rooting for Dale. It was as if we all knew it was destiny. We miss ya Dale.
I remember this race very well, I was at my dad's and we were watching the race together, I must have been 11 when this race took place, and omg i was so ecstatic over this win, i was running around like a mad man, This imo is the best race of all time, This race was Awesome
He finally did it
20 years of trying 20 years of frustration Dale Earnhardt will come to the caution flag to win the Daytona 500 FINALLY!
I'm still skeptical about Dale's 500 win..

2004 Dale jr, his son, wins
2007 Kevin Harvick(Dale's old car changed to the 29) wins the 500

my favorite driver is bobby labonte. i could care less that he lost. i wanted dale to win instead of bobby.

If that race didn't go to caution, with Earnhardt's luck he would have lost somehow.

1990's NASCAR is the best racing the sport had ever seen.
gamerwords 2 years ago 3
@gamerwords Now with the Chase, the COT, and all the other stupid rules, NASCAR sucks now, and it's no coincidence that it started sucking when Brian France took over.

Dale Earnhardt Wins The DAYTONA 500
7647486894944 2 years ago 2
The void left by the loss of Earnhardt is still felt in NASCAR.
McCall72 2 years ago
NASCAR would certainly be different if Big E was still around. Probably no Chase, no COT...

Labonte came on like a gang buster with no help... One more lap might have been enough....

3:09 is the best. Mike Joy calling Dale home.

yes classic

Everything that made Nascar so awesome during the 90s can be summed up in these final 5 laps. It's sad to think we won't ever see racing like this again with all the rule changes and cautious driving that's so common today.
AKphill49 2 years ago 4
so true
BrickGrease 2 years ago
let's see... dale took 20 tries and made the #3 famous... that means mark will need 40 tries since he made the #6 famous... so mark would be 65 at the youngest when he wins

i miss this moment so much, i'm a huge Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan have been all my life, he was my hero growing up and was considered a father figure to me cause my dad couldn't be around for me...i get the goosebumps from one of the songs when i hear his voice and hear him say "your probably gonna see somethin you have never seen on fox." and i believe that it sure wasn't what we all wanted it to be i thought it was gonna be the 2nd 500 win for him. that night i cried non-stop till i fell alseep.

wow he actually didnt have to wreck someone to get the victory
gokb18 2 years ago
I wasn't a huge earnhardt fan, but it doesn't matter. Dale deserved that win so much and even if you weren't an Earnhardt fan you were happy to see him win there at Daytona. If your not a fan of a certain racer and one of his wins give you goosebumps he is an absolute legend.

this right here folks is the greatest moment in nascar
sportsdud22 2 years ago 4
Certainly a mark in the record books. This is one of the greatest. It does, however, fall short in greatness to the 1984 Firecracker 400 with Petty's 200th win, and the 1979 Daytona 500 with the famous crash and fight. But this race here is one to remember.
AceMTRS43 2 years ago
And 1995 at Indy.
