  • I'm still skeptical about Dale's 500 win..

  • @ULTIMATEICEYOU Why's that?

  • @eddiewlynch

If the caution had not come out would he have still won the daytona 500?

  • @ULTIMATEICEYOU We will never know but...it worked out for him. This was the first NASCAR race I ever watched so back then I was really excited despite not fully understanding how he won.

  • @ULTIMATEICEYOU even as a Labonte fan, Big E would have done anything to keep him behind him. He would have won.

  • Always wonder if Gordon had something for Earnhardt if he didn't break? After all 1998 was a magic year for Super G

  • # 18 had it ....Damit!!!!!!!!

  • @krblossom A Bobby fan for a long time, I still pretend idk the winner so I can cheer him on!

WTF mast? Get outta the way!

  • I was about to turn 1 when this happened lol

  • another case would be brad keselowski and carl edwards in 2009 talladega in which brad could have won anyways

  • if i were mike helton or brian france i would get rid of the cot ver. 1 (wing) and ver. 2(current) go back to 2006 and older seasons with winston cup instead of nextel cup cars no longer do the two car tandem oh and remove the yellow line rule like in 2008 talladega when regan smith got penalized who otherwise have 2 wins instead of 1

  • Is it wrong that I always tear up watching this race

  • in my opinon this is the best was the best race ever like if you agree

  • Imagine the backlash had his car failed inspection. I was too young to truly appreciate what dale did for the sport as a whole.. I'll never forget 2001. What a horrible year that was, It woke me up to a lot of things. I always rooted against Sr, but when he died, I lost all interest in NASCAR for about 5 years. And then 9/11 in the same year.. Made me realize just what kind of people live on this planet, the worst of the worst type of scum... A bad year indeed...

  • 2nd best moment in NASCAR history, Dale Jr. winning in July 2001 has to be #1

  • @dlwile33 No harvick winning at Atlanta

  • Don't matter how many times I watch this...goosebumps

  • the man never forget!!!!

  • Could you imagine if he ran out of gas on that final caution lap lol

  • yep it is not rocket sience u just stay up front and u block like dale did creat a stop sign for the drivers behind u and push to the front hammer down

  • I hate to say it but Earnhardt may have caught a break with the rules they were running under. The Green/White/Checkered would've made it a whole new ballgame. Or say if they don't throw out caution for the spin, which they often do this day and age since the wreck was behind them, Earnhardt created a big gap when he moved around Mask, Labonte would've had a run, although maybe Labonte doesn't go as wide into turn 3 as a move of desperation heading. Either way, the G.O.A.T. got his victory...

  • best moment in nascar history

  • is it weird that i have tears in my eyes..

  • did anyone hear the woman scream as he came across the line?

  • Goosebumps up the ass!

  • How weird is it that 3 years later he dies and Earnhardt's number is 3?

  • I get chills when they come through turn 3 after Mike Joy announces about the caution knowing they're comin' to the line and it'll end the race and that Earnhardt will win after 20 tries. Amazing job by Earnhardt! RIP Dale. NASCAR has never been the same since.

  • Classic Mike Joy commentary: "Twenty years of trying, twenty years of frustration. Dale Earnhardt will come to the caution flag, to win the Daytona 500!"

  • All I can say is, Dale, better late than never! As a North Carolinian, I know the #3 lives on forever! That , and the #43. Thank you, Lord!

  • I hear you guys, I watched that race, and I never left the living room because of this!

  • @likestallwomen you're still in that same room??? my god you're good!!! =D

  • 3:10 goosebumps.

  • @mreed91 to this day...I could watch this 50 years from now and still get goosebumps....

  • This video made me smile, cry shout with joy, and it gave me goosebumps.

  • If Bobby had one more lap, he would have won the 500... just sayin.

  • @Showstoppa103 i see no evidence that earnhardt couldn't have held them another lap

  • @TonyPizzaro Well, thankfully in 2011 we have a Green-White-Checkers and 3 times to attempt it, because yellow flag wins are bittersweet- no matter how long of a wait it is.

  • larry mcreynolds still had hair :D

    greatest 500 ever...

  • #3

  • RIP Dale ;(

  • Im a hardcore Gordon fan, but he was the best.

  • what if he ran out of fuel as he crossed the line and wasnt able to complete the caution lap.... that would suck

  • after 20 years

he was always the best though no doubt about that

  • im sure he would have wanted to win it under green, but dammit he got it and thats what counts

  • He was given this win because of a caution flag. If it weren't for that crash, Bobby Labonte would've passed him in the end!

  • @metzdawg3000 one....you dont know that for fact, he couldve, and yet sr couldve passed him right back, and its daytona, you can go from the front to the back n back up front in the span of 2 laps

  • @kingofkings420316 I don't know, with Earnhardt's bad luck at Daytona...

  • Impressive run by Chad Little with a finish of 7th.

Made a good idea by moving to Roush Racing.

  • Jeremy Methfield sighting

  • I thought that was Jeremy Methfield for a second

  • I just got chills watching this. I remember watching this on TV back in 1998 when I was 6 years old. I still get teary-eyed watching it. Thanks for uploading it :)

  • @rhbcweatherdude amen, I was 7 at the time, this was the moment that really cemented my love for racing (for life). It was quite possibly my favorite childhood memory. Its a shame the sport ain't what it used to be, it's a shame he is gone.

  • lol, Mike kept bringing back all those past crashes that previous leaders had..lol

  • He was the Susan Lucci of NASCAR, and I was happy when they FINALLY won their trophys. YAY!

  • i still get goosebumps

  • who are the 5 "dislikes"? Those 5 then do not like NASCAR...Dale Sr. was, and still is the best ever NASCAR driver...He is the reason why I first started to watch NASCAR in 2000.

  • Has anyone noticed that since the 1998 Daytona 500, every 3 500's have had something to do with Dale sr.

1998 Dale sr wins the 500

2001 Michael Waltrip(Sr's team driver) wins.

2004 Dale jr, his son, wins

2007 Kevin Harvick(Dale's old car changed to the 29) wins the 500

2010 Jaime McMurray(Earnhardt Gannasi Racing) wins the 500

2013 Someone from either EGR, RCR, or Dale jr.

    The #3 lives on forever

  • @clintcheif2009 wow, that's a great way to look at it.

  • @clintcheif2009 2/18/11, ten years to the day of Dale's death, Michael Waltrip wins the truck race :)

  • @RyanTheIncredible882 its been weird jr wins shootout n pole waltrip trucks jr within seconds of nationwide

  • @clintcheif2009 THAT IS really weird

  • @clintcheif2009 2011 Michael Waltrip wins 10 years from Daytona 500 win.

  • @camaros65 If you saw the 500 today, that comment should probably be removed

  • @clintcheif2009 Im talking about when he won the truck race on the 18th the day he one the daytona 500.

  • @camaros65 nope

  • @clintcheif2009 And 3 races after his death Harvick won in his car

  • @clintcheif2009 i noticed the same thing

  • @clintcheif2009 Michael also won 2003 Daytona 500

  • @clintcheif2009 It's weird, isn't it? And now, the chase for the cup gives you 3 bonus points for every win you get in the season. Plus, it's now 3 bonus points for winning the race.

  • @clintcheif2009 ironically enough i read it when it had 76 likes (earnhardts amount of wins)

  • @clintcheif2009 I noticed that right after Harvicks win. And when Mcmurray won it, I was like "Holy shit"

  • i remember this race dale was an inspiration to me

  • someone noted this was the best race in nascar history..well i was there, and it was electric as the #3 won, but the 1992 Hooters 500, the last race of that season, is nascars best race ever...Richard Pettys last race, Jeff Gordons 1st race, the championship coming down to DAvey Allison, Alal Kulwicki, and Bill Elliott, with Kulwicki winning the championship...never a better race than that one

  • Dale Earnhardt will come to the checkered flag to win the Daytona 500!!

  • @spartanxxx17 Best 13 words in Nascar history

  • They say that the Indy 500 is the greatest spectacle in motor sports...... ITS NOT. The Daytona 500 is the greatest spectacle in motor sports

  • @millienniumforce100 there is no true greatest spectacle in motor sports because everyone likes different things daytona 500 is awesome no doubt but not the best in my opinion.

  • back when nascar was good now it just flat out sucks today

  • I miss moments like these.

  • The 1998 Daytona 500 was a great moment for Dale Earnhardt. Finally winning it after 20 attempts to win it. R.I.P Dale Sr

  • The most anticipated, historic, long-awaited finish in NASCAR history...

"Dale Earnhardt will come to win the Daytona 500!!!! Finally!"

  • sooo fukin stupid...going in circles..not doin shit watch formula they are atleast hella fast over there

  • @abdi5501boone you are so ignorant...you know nothing about nascar

  • @BookemDeno Don't know shit bout nascar...i agree to that ignorant? i think not

  • @abdi5501boone u dont even know wat ignorant means then. if u admit to knowing nothing about nascar, u cant comment on it then and if u do thats called beung IGNORANT

  • @BookemDeno nope i was just randomly watching fast cars i saw this video and thought i would share my mind that's not being ignorant its called being out spoken...i don't know anything about nascar i know the are going in circles all day long trying to see who will be ahead of the pack by the finish line that's all i need to know about nascar...in the mean time you sir can go out play hide and seek and fornicate with a GIANT stick :D!

  • @abdi5501boone lmao 200+ miles an hour not fast? yep bookemdeno is right you are ignorant. there is all kinds of races out there that are fast. But this is one of the fastest other than Indy....lol formula is cool also tho but Daytona 500 is the holy grail of autosports. You could go to the lemans in europe and 100% of those driver know of Daytona lineage and speed as well as sheer strategy

  • I was at this race. When I told the people around me that I had a dream that Earnhardt was going to win, they all laughed at me (it was obvious that I wasn't a NASCAR fan). After the race they were completely goggle-eyed with astonishment.

  • THIS WAS A GOOD YEAR

  • Im glad dale got a 500 victory. He should have won i like 5 times but daytona for some reason had it out for dale. cutting his tire on the final turn with a lap to go. shit daytona had it out so bad for dale that it even killed him. but I guess daytona was like hey Ive given you so many problems in the past years Ill give you a win

  • @Mr420woo Dale had a career-record 34 career wins at Daytona (IROC, Bud Shootout, Gatorade Duels, Pepsi 400) but only 1 Daytona 500

  • @TyVulpine I know he had a total 34 wins at daytona. I ment im happy he had a 500 win

  • @Mr420woo Okay :3

  • He stel THE MAAAAAAAAAAAAN .

  • The Harley J. Earl Trophy has got an 1998 andress and it says home sweet home Dale Earnhardt at long long last.

  • watching this still gives me chills

  • Still the best victory ever in NASCAR !!!

  • I would like to know which 5 people disliked this video

  • "20 years of trying, 20 years of frustration, Dale Earnahrdt comes to the caution flag to win the Daytona 500" screw "gentlemen star your engines" that is the most famous phrase in racing

  • Can't imagine what was going through the minds of Earnhardt fans watching Bobby Labonte flying up through the field.

  • one of the best moments in NASCAR history

  • @TheBirdmanOfToledo THE best moment in NASCAR history

  • This was without a doubt the best event in NASCAR history! Anyone who don't like that sorry.

  • Does anybody know what was wrong with Jeff Gordon's car at the end?

  • How do children in North Carolina learn to count? "One, two, Dale Earnhardt..."

  • @TyVulpine Hey! I live there! That was a good one because Dale Earnhardt was my favorite one!

  • @TyVulpine That's exactly how we learn!

  • @TyVulpine No, that's "Jamie McMurray, Kurt Busch, Dale Earnhardt..."

  • @gp75motorsports not the point

  • @TyVulpine actually, it's Steve Parks, Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt, etc... haha just playin' with ya.

  • @TyVulpine Amen!!!!!!!

  • I love how Bobby and Jeremy are bouncing off each other coming to the caution, and the way Earnhardt used Rick Mast to his advantage.

  • I always thought, if it went green to the end, Labonte would have took it. I was never a fan of Earnhardt. Bobby was coming and needed that last lap. He had the best car that day. At least after this, we didn't have to hear the whining about Earnhardt never winning it every year.

  • @Denver1110

No guarantee that Bobby would've won even if there had been a lap left to race. You're speculating about something that will never be known. Go cry elsewhere.

  • They make it sound so much epic other than the other anoucher they have now but dw and larry are cool

  • who was the lap car? what a dumbass get out of the way

  • @jason88cubs he was rick mask and he actually helped dale earnhardt win dumbass

  • Rick Mast was the lapped car and he DID get out of the way. He was down out of the way while the lead lap cars went around.

  • nothing better then the black number 3

  • cot sucks, points system sucks, chase sucks.. the 90's were the peak. good motors, technology was there. when dale earnhardt died i believe nascar did too.. i still follow nascar but the races back then were alot harder faster and meaningfull

  • Agreed

  • you got all of that right. chase absolutely sucks, cost people championships

  • Don't blame the Chase when your driver chokes and can't win a Cup.

  • he would have won at least 2 more champions if that fucking chase and the COT car didnt happen.. plain and simple, chase rips racers off, not just gordon

  • No definitive proof.

  • yes there fucking proof, gordan won the points by hundreds and should have won multiple time, except the chase erased all of it, and then ur fucked,

  • Coulda shoulda woulda, but he didn't.

  • and matt kenseth winning it with one win at the beggining of the season

  • best driver ever

these were the good old days of nascar

  • 20 years of trying, 20 years of frustration, Dale Earnhardt will come to the caution flag, and win the Daytona 500 -- Finally! The most anticipated moment in racing - if John Elway can win the Super Bowl, Dale Earnhardt said he could win the Daytona 500. my favorite quote ever

  • miss ya BP. R.I.P.

  • I don't think there was a single racing fan who wasn't happy that Dale finally won it.

  • my favorite driver is bobby labonte. i could care less that he lost. i wanted dale to win instead of bobby.

  • If that race didn't go to caution, with Earnhardt's luck he would have lost somehow.

  • hell yes the 90's were the best we'll ever see.

  • At last!!!

  • After 2007 i stoped watching Nascar and that was my Favorite thing ever i mean The COT made me leave i watched some races this year all of them sucked compared to the 90's im prob done forever COT ruined Nascar

  • 1990's NASCAR is the best racing the sport had ever seen.

  • @gamerwords Now with the Chase, the COT, and all the other stupid rules, NASCAR sucks now, and it's no coincidence that it started sucking when Brian France took over.

  • 0:08-0:13 i wish they would go back to thar in-car camera

  • Dale Earnhardt Wins The DAYTONA 500

  • The void left by the loss of Earnhardt is still felt in NASCAR.

  • NASCAR would certainly be different if Big E was still around. Probably no Chase, no COT...

  • Labonte came on like a gang buster with no help... One more lap might have been enough....

  • R.I.P Benny Parsons

  • i was in front of the tv when petty retired, when dale won the 98 daytona 500, and when we lost the legend in 01, RIP dale we miss you

  • Greatest moment in NASCAR far none

  • that was so cool.

  • 1:58 is my fav. part

  • 3:09 is the best. Mike Joy calling Dale home.

  • yes classic

  • Everything that made Nascar so awesome during the 90s can be summed up in these final 5 laps. It's sad to think we won't ever see racing like this again with all the rule changes and cautious driving that's so common today.

  • so true

  • let's see... dale took 20 tries and made the #3 famous... that means mark will need 40 tries since he made the #6 famous... so mark would be 65 at the youngest when he wins

  • i miss this moment so much, i'm a huge Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan have been all my life, he was my hero growing up and was considered a father figure to me cause my dad couldn't be around for me...i get the goosebumps from one of the songs when i hear his voice and hear him say "your probably gonna see somethin you have never seen on fox." and i believe that it sure wasn't what we all wanted it to be i thought it was gonna be the 2nd 500 win for him. that night i cried non-stop till i fell alseep.

  • I wasn't a huge earnhardt fan, but it doesn't matter. Dale deserved that win so much and even if you weren't an Earnhardt fan you were happy to see him win there at Daytona. If your not a fan of a certain racer and one of his wins give you goosebumps he is an absolute legend.

  • And i got the front of rudds car from this wreck

  • Really? You have the front end of Ricky Rudd's #10 Tide car?

  • 20 years of trying 20 years of frustration! cant get any better than that

  • @sportsdud22 and on the 50th anniversary of nascar too

  • this right here folks is the greatest moment in nascar

  • Certainly a mark in the record books. This is one of the greatest. It does, however, fall short in greatness to the 1984 Firecracker 400 with Petty's 200th win, and the 1979 Daytona 500 with the famous crash and fight. But this race here is one to remember.

  • And 1995 at Indy.

  • This race is certainly one of the top 10 if not top 5 in NASCAR history. It shows triumph over what seemed as endless bad luck dealt by lady luck in the prior 19 years. This race says "never give up". One of the last real NASCAR races is shown right here. Today is about sponsors, yesterday was about glory and bragging rights.

  • The Greatest Race In NASCAR History!!!!!

  • Makes me sad enough to cry.

Hard to believe he's gone, 8 years later =*[

  • yeah dipshit. he died in 2001. 2001+8=2009

  • i think yunggibs was thinking about the day he won the 500

  • Thanks man XD

    He's ignorant.

  • Yeah I can.

    Think before you speak!!

  • I remember this even though I was 4 lol... he was so close to losing it my dad was so happy when sr won lol

  • I was 4 too!

  • I am a 5 year veteran crew member for Roush racing and I was there for this one. It was Dale's perfect day. Everyone in the garage from all the teams were rooting for Dale. It was as if we all knew it was destiny. We miss ya Dale.

  • I remember this race very well, I was at my dad's and we were watching the race together, I must have been 11 when this race took place, and omg i was so ecstatic over this win, i was running around like a mad man, This imo is the best race of all time, This race was Awesome

    He finally did it

20 years of trying 20 years of frustration Dale Earnhardt will come to the caution flag to win the Daytona 500 FINALLY!

R.I.P Dale we all miss you
