  • And really??? Did his moma really name him " Prince"?

  • Prince plays a pretty good guitar when hes playing something other than the crap he writes

  • Although he is completely showboating during this song, it is a truly incredible solo. I think a lot of people forget just how good a guitarist Prince is. If anyone doubts that just show them this performance!

  • 1:50 guys in the background looks EXACTLY like a young George Harrison.

  • @SuperiorSwagon1 - that's Dhani Harrison, George's son.

  • what is the name of all player please ...

  • @jona1985birink Jeff Young - Piano / Steve Winwood - Organ / Steve Ferrone - Drums / Jim Capaldi - Conga Drums and Tambourine / Marc Mann - Guitar(first solo) / Jeff Lynne - Guitar-Vocals / Tom Petty - Guitar-Vocals / Dhani Harrison - Guitar-Vocals / Prince - Guitar(second solo) / Scott Thurston - Bass

  • I agree with jatownsend22. Once a certain level of excellence is achieved the question of what's best kind of goes out the window, or at best becomes just a matter of opinion.

As for Prince's performance in this video, it's undeniably inspired and brilliant -- in my opinion. It's the Greatest Guitar Solo Ever to YOU, if you think so.

  • there really isn't a best guitar solo - just several great ones

  • Not even close.

  • greatest guitar solo ever....I call that mighty bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.....top notch for sure but....Jimmy Page, Mark Knopfler and some others already mentioned beg to differ

  • Prince is definately good, but you have lost your mind if you think this is the best solo ever, or if you think that prince is capable of producing the best ever. LaRRY Coreal, Jeff beck, slowhand, Django Rhynehardt,FRANK FUCKING Zappa, jimi, george harrison, SHAWN LANE.There is too mush erectionary material out there to choose any one solo as best, But personally I could not rate this one in MY top 500, honestly.

  • this is really good. if you think there is better then go listen to it and let us enjoy this. thank you.

  • No ones opinion of art is better than anyone else's. Beauty is in the eyes - and ears - of the beholder. The difference here is that the poster had the balls to post his.

  • Is Prince a rockin guitarist? No question. Greatist solo ever? Dude- you need to get out more.

  • Great cover! But "Greatest Guitar Solo Ever"? Not even close! Awesome? Yes! Greatest? Please!

  • Freaking prince all over that fret board. The man is amazing.

  • 836 are whats wrong with this country!

  • @jonnytaught how can u be invited to a party held in your honor? Along with George, Prince was inducted into the hall that night.,

  • You invite Prince, you get Prince. He rocks it. Yes, he's himself-ish, what can you do? Great he got invited to the party.

  • @danzarek i completely agree

  • He's so underrated as a guitarist... mind blowing

  • Greatest ever.. hahahahahahahahaahhaha...

  • Great Honor for the great George Harrison

  • Rhythm players? Guess we can stop you there but If I was a great musician that was dead I wouldn't want my tribute to but a bunch of people playing lifelessly (also why does it matter how he dresses?) showmanship was what made jimi hendrix great an like a million other musicians around the globe Duane Allman? I think he did a great job everyone playing on stage enjoyed his tribute piece notice their faces? But anyways Yes hitting the like button cause why would I view a video I wouldn't like.

  • amazing prine of princes!

  • Damn, I may not like Prince's music, but that brother can play a guitar!

  • Prince truly captured the essence of the George Harrison vibe didn't he? Showboating, wanking on the guitar, dressing like a pimp. He managed to make this segment all about him. That's not good tribute show etiquette.I don't deny that Prince is a GREAT showman and probably one of the funkiest rhythm players but that doesn't make him a great soloist. The guitar toss in the air? All about him. I'm sure George Harrison would disapprove of my stated opinion. Pretty negative I suppose. Sorry.

  • @danzarek I forgive you

  • @FendyRhodes Thank you.

  • Prince's guitar wasn't weeping. It were-a SCREAMIN!

  • @dveplmr Prince (Sorry - "The artist formerly known as Sharon" is an average guitarist by ANY standards. This is a nice rendition... but falls WAAAAY short of best solo ever... WAY SHORT. He was, though, the best beatle.... in fact he was the only Beatle.

  • What a great version....and amazing tribute to both George Harrison and Jeff Healy!

  • Had he been standing still with his ass tight and been playing since the 60's among a few other obvious differences "This solo by Prince would be the GREATEST EVER lol! Let's just be honest America/World!!!

  • For all you people who thik that this beats Clapton's solo, check out the Concert for George version of this song. This is just a modern-esque solo that lacks emotion. Seriously, he acts and plays like this is a hard rock/headbanging song. Good solo, but not fitting for this song.

  • @SolidLittle Couldn't agree more!! This is an awesome solo technically, but it doesn't give me goosebumps the way Clapton's version does at the CfG!!

  • @ironiclettuce I agree!! maybe because prince is great but clapton is god!

  • @SolidLittle True ..... and for all of the above I love the 'Live in Japan' version the best.

  • where Prince guitar go after he threw it @ 6:12? lol

  • Prince just owned everyone else

  • @gokumadaraIII His guitar tech caught it.

  • @LadyBelladonna1313 I think u replied to the wrong person :(

  • Prince schooling Clapton.

  • Prince nails this shit!

  • TRUE THIS. GREatest solo EVERR

  • I've never been a fan of Prince but I think his playing looks and sounds awesome.

  • at 2:03 looks like the dad from married with children

  • Dhani looks so much like his dad!

  • I am a tom petty fan.Great tune I am in guitar heaven! Jeff Heally does a brilliant version of this track.

  • Yo, if you don't like it fuck off, plenty of people have good things to say about this video, liking something is an opinion, if you like it great :) if you don't, go comment on something you like and stopping wasting your life.

  • I've seen Prince do way worse. (Hence 99% of his music)

  • Solo was pretty good but the song sux. Ruined a great tune.

  • The greatest guitar solo is on Megedeth's Skin Of My Teeth. PERIOD!

  • I don't know what was better the solo, or the trust fall.

  • awesome solo but not the best ive ever seen, jimmy page come up with solo's like those for almost every led zep song, and clapton.

  • i know what's missing in youtube, a button "FUCKING AWESOME"

  • @g1234567890987654321 HAHA FUCKING AWSOME THUMBS UP

  • why didnt god share the talent round more

  • They should have let dahni sing. or is ti danhi. or is it dhani.

  • Holy crapola! Prince stole the show!

  • who the heck dislikes this? how can you not love that solo?

  • you can see the guy playing solo, right in front of you.. that is NOT Eric Clapton

  • Put your dicks away, this pissing contest is over! Love this version. Jeff Healy version is my favorite though:-)

  • P.S. your comparison doesn't even make sense, writing a similar song has nothing to do with playing someone else's.

  • And you just showed everyone what a DICK you are, fool!

  • @greasemonkey1228 i think you mean Clapton.

  • Comment removed

  • @greasemonkey1228 The guitar solo in this song was played by Eric Clapton, Please do your homework before posting next time because you just made yourself look like an idiot in front of a lot of people.

  • As great as Prince is -- and he is a genius -- he's not half the Hendrix he wishes he were. Listen to his style and notice his nonchalant stage presence...

  • Prince is freaking amazing, true musical genius!!

  • That was magical... George Harrison's Spirit entered Prince for this performance.

    Danny was loving it !!!

  • @ThinkReal Again, the solo of this song is the work of Eric Clapton, NOT George Harrison.

  • I love this song and performance so much! Thanks for posting this! Woohoo! xsSara

  • Hotel California by the Eagles has a better guitar solo.

  • Great showman, great solo. The best? Hmmm, I very much doubt that...

  • Comment removed

  • Gilmour is true greatness but all he's done is play guitar and attmept to sing. He went from looking like a Norse God to Roddy McDowell. Prince is a virtuoso on keyboards, drums, dance, and vocals and somehow still looks the same while being over 50. How?

  • @P1Kage prince looks 55

  • omg this song is sooooo great amazing supercool!!! george harrison's son is so cute and he lookes like his father!!!love it <3 <3 <3

  • course it helps that the songs great...thats the problem with loads of other solos that cant compete because it doent have the magic propulsion of beatle energy to push it to another level...Incandescent

  • LOL Have seen many better solos

  • David gilmour has much better solos.

  • Prince did great. I'm impressed.

  • What is the name of the song ?

  • @faizalgates97 "while my guitar gently weeps"

  • @faizalgates97 The song is called While My Guitar Gently Weeps, you should be ashamed of yourself.

  • @faizalgates97 are you fucking kidding me?

  • Very well done.

  • Did'nt know Prince was that good. Very very enjoyable all the way around the stage.

  • Prince is a musical phenom.

  • George Harrison made this, the solo is superb.

  • @Socratease1 Again, the solo is ERIC FUCKING CLAPTON, NOT GEORGE HARRISON

  • This is so far away from the best of the best....

  • @idum01 Here we go..... Ok then, WHO is the best??

  • @cjohnson83

It difficult to say who is best because there are so many good guitar solos but I would suggest "Comfortably numb uncut pulse live" by David Gilmour or "Maggot Brain" by Eddie Hazel or "Stairway to Heaven live"(Madison Square Garden) by Jimmy Page, "Made of Tears" by Joe Satriani, Heaven and Hell solo by Tony Iommi, Child in Time live 1970 by Richie Blackmore, Brothers in Arms live(on the night 1993) by Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore, Perpetual by Yngwie Malmsteen..etc...

  • @PaoloCaglioLMT How old are you, 10??

  • @cjohnson83 If I'm not allowed to express my polite opinion, then fuck yourself. And I'm older than you, ass, just don't think this is "the best solo ever"

  • Amazing :)

  • this is awesome! if you like this solo and want to hear another with some serious raw emotional stopping power you should also listen to roy buchanan - live from austin texas (hey joe)

  • There's a vid called 'I love my guitar' by Prince. Its not my personal cup o' tea -but I have friends who love it. Check it out.

  • Love it!

  • Jeff Healey did a more soulful version and he was fukin blind. This version just doesn't have the emotion the song requires.

  • Was that George Harrison's kid??

  • @rickerfred yes. Reading the story behind this is interesting. Prince evidently sluffed off during the rehearsal and didn't do much on the solo and saved it all for this. Knowing this, watch it again and the expressions.

  • @chetplayerwhoknows Sloughing: may refer to the act of shedding or casting off dead tissue, such as cells of the endometrium, shed during menstruation. It may also refer to the process where necrotic surface epithelial cells are discarded from the small intestinal mucosa following various infections which may occur within both monogastrics or ruminant Sloughing also occurs in root growth, where cells from the root cap are shed to the soil where they are biologically processed by microorganisms.

  • @rickerfred Yes, that's Dhani.

  • @saxmidiman I actually agreed with u. Someone of your apparent age should have caught that. I was simply stating that to boldly give nod to Prince over Clapton was indeed risky.

  • @saxmidiman. By that I meant yourself. The pleasure one finds in any type if art is purely subjective. I prefer Manet over Monet, Ronaldinho over Ronaldo, and a cold beer over a chilled Muscato. If u prefer Mr Nelson (Prince) over Mr Clapton, I tip my cap to your bravery.

  • @P1Kage Dude, pay attention, I didn't even begin to say I "prefer" on or the other, but just saying the spirit and flash of that solo surpassed Clapton's original on the Beatles song. Just so impressed with this one, I had to say. And...that's from 57 years of experience learning the subtle differences in music.

  • I have played guitar for 30yrs. Mostly influenced by more virtuistic players. But I have known since 1984 that Prince was a smoking and soulful player. Have always had a high respect for him. This video just smokes. He has the fire of Hendrix.

  • @Hybridhor Dang, I also had thought of Jimi when I saw Prince's FLASH!!! Sorry, I just don't usually get that from Eric, although he definitely has the TONE OF TONES.

  • Prince just nails all his critics about his musical abilities. I wonder if he has solos as good as this one on his albums. Please do recommend any good guitar solo pieces by Prince. Always a pleasure to see real artistes from that great generation. This video was a surprise. Just superb!

  • @sowmyvish DAmn. Go listen to the end of 'Lets go Crazy' off purple rain. That guitar solo at the end is him. Freakin smokes.

  • @saxmidiman - if that's your opinion you are in agreement with the only person who matters when it comes to the enjoyment of music.

  • Awesome!

  • I KNOW I'M GONNA START A FIRE WITH THIS COMMENT BUT......If ya had any doubt about Prince, this should change your mind. Just freaking blows me away...I would almost have to say, BETTER than CLAPTON'S lead.OKAY GO AHEAD FIRE AWAY!!!

  • @saxmidiman Of course its better than Clapton. Prince has the fire of Hendrix in his soul. Enough said...

  • GodDamn...FANFREAKINTASTIC...ANYBODY THINK PRINCE MAY HAVE ACTUALLY OUTDONE CLAPTON?

  • @saxmidiman yes

  • I'm 60 now and used to think Prince was a little (coo -coo) but after reading about the reason for his screwy name change (rebelling against his record company) and seeing an interview with him on the Tonight Show with Jay a few years ago, I discovered that he is a little more down to earth than what he appears. And there is no doubt that he is a very talented showman!

  • This makes me want to go dig out my posterized pics of George & Ravii Shankar in '74.

  • Wow i wish i could play like that!

  • How did they get George Harrison to look very young and play on the background with an acoustic guitar? Cool!

  • Thanks for posting, George I'm sure is pleased of the rendition of his classic song. So very nice

  • a phenom job by prince incredible feel he tore it up and remaining well within range i bet most haters who post stuff dont play guitar i feel sorry for you that people cant recognize this for what it is=====sheer brillance ======do you sheep people think this is even discussed how and what to play in rehearsal once again i feel sorry for you ---youre the same people who laughed at jesus and the same hater non believers from purple rain ==humans can be so unworthy of existence ..............

  • Yeah, I don't see how this could be any greater. This is where it's at.

  • I read the title of this video, Greatest Guitar Solo Ever, and expected some traveling wilderby nonsense, what a nice surprise to see Prince up there doing a great Solo, well done Prince.

  • Not a Prince fan, but he's doing what he is to do: entertain. A little too much for my taste, but, still, it is simply the fusion of what he does: act, play, both. So, "Wow!"

  • The vid was named by someone other than the original poster. the person asked the poster to change it from "2004 R&R HOF" to the above cuz it wasnt getting any views & they thought this was a fantastic performance. If they'd tagged it with "Prince..." most of u wouldn't have watched with an open mind. If u love real rock then you'll appreciate the ENTIRE performance. Think about it. Jimi, Chuck, Pete, Angus,Eddie,SRV, & Prince etc are performers not just players trying to play nice and fit in.

  • Prince was smoking!!!

  • Prince's solo was far more tasteful than the other guy's. Is it just me, or is the guy who is playing the first solos guitar sound way to fx'd? At least Prince has a somewhat natural guitar sound.

  • Comment removed

  • @NewEnglandBudo Not really a Prince fan. I still think that style is bit too fx'd, and yes, flamboyant. I just really do not like over fx'd guitar sound in the classic rock/blues music genre. I think too much effects give the player too much leeway because it covers up so many mistakes.

  • @curtgenerowe HE DIDNT MAKE ANY MISTAKES SILLY BOY

  • Prince was inducted into the R n R Hall of Fame along with George in 2004, the FIRST year of his eligibility.

To all those who trash him: No contemporary artist with his star/arena power has paid his dues to the old school the way Prince has - the Beatles, Jimi, Little Richard, Chuck Berry. Price has more than paid his dues

His overwhelming genius was correctly acknowledged by the RnR Hall of Fame.

It is fitting and proper he pays homage to the Beatles and Clapton here with panache and style.

  • So this is the greatest guitar solo ever? Sorry, but I'm confused. It's a solid cover and all... but srsly?

  • 825 persons do not have speakers :)

  • i'm surprised Prince hasn't had this video removed.

  • besides the original, the best version i've heard......petty just gets it....most covers tend to blow thru it like it's a race......

  • agree 100% with zapple 100

  • Prince does this excellent. He stays true to the song while adding his own touch to it.

  • this is not the greatest gitar solo ever, this is the greatest cover ever.

  • He disrespected the other cats by be-bopping off the stage. The solo was more mugging than substance. I love Prince but I've heard him play better.

  • @DavisNetPromos5550 Yeah to the first part. And yeah he shouldn't have even been out there with the others. On the other hand, he almost revived one of the most boring and lethargic songs ever.

  • @neeilmarquis Your opinion, and many wouldn't agree. Can't think what you'd expect ... the song's name is a kind giveaway. I love it. Very soulful and very George Harrison.

    This version is great too.

  • Not even close compared to what I've heard.

  • whats song is this agen?

  • @123nyc1 "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".by George Harrison.

  • Dhani is such a clone of George, it's scary...

  • LAME

  • TAKING NOTHING AWAY FROM MARC MANN - BUT IF YOU TOSS OUT PRINCE AND PUT

IN CLAPTON, YOU HAVE ALMOST EVERYONE IN PERHAPS THE GREATEST

TRIBUTE BANDS EVER ASSEMBLED ON ONE STAGE. THE CONCERT FOR GEORGE

HARRISON IS A CLASSIC, EMOTIONAL EVENT. NAME ONE BETTER.

  • @FNOT4YOU The Last Waltz.

  • @FNOT4YOU The concert for George was supposed to be a memorial concert by friends n family of George This was supposed to be a celebration and gift to Dhani. By the look on Dhani's face both served their selective purposes well. peace

  • He freaking NAILS the first solo. Damn.

  • I wish Prince would put out a rock album. The dude can jam.

  • Maybe not "the best ever", but a definite contender. Prince is/was a great guitarist/showman.

  • The kid behind Tom Petty looks like an adolescent version of George Harrison.

  • @oldwhtman its his son dhani

  • @oldwhtman That's because it's his son.

  • when i seen best Guitar solo ever i was intrigued... i looked and i learned.. this GUY! THIS BAND...

and George Harrison ringing in my mind.. this is as good as it can get AMAZING it is. covered in goose bumps i am ....bless you for posting

  • I love Prince, but he was partly showboating here. Plus he committed the cardinal sin of all lead guitar players, over playing when you're not the center of the stage and over the other band. I know cause I do it to. It's easy to fall in love with the solo and just want to play all night long, but it's something that one learns to temper as they mature. Am surprised at Prince hogging the stage like that, but then he's probably not used to sharing it either. But Prince is awesome, so who cares!

  • @RJiwatram man i heard that the original band on stage was reluctant to play with him on this song, naturally he was angry because of the self righteousness of the band and wanted to show them that he was worth playing with. So when his turn for the solo came he let out everything he was feeling with his music to kind of show them he can jam with the best of the best.

  • why did it have to end?

  • I was told that Prince was Mozart in a past life!

  • its not like he is surrounded by a bunch of slouches, that is world class.

  • @vulcman2007 prince hasn't done pop in 25 years. He's been his own genre since 1986. That's why most casual listeners only know him from Purple Rain.

  • rock on!

  • Hell yeah, I love this version so much.

  • George would have loved this.

  • This was the song that made me fall in love with George Harrison. I have memories of laying in bed with a transistor radio under my pillow, listening to this on the radio. AM

  • i want tabs

  • Where did the guitar go?

  • @TheMikeyg0 Straight on Ebay :)
