Prince truly captured the essence of the George Harrison vibe didn't he? Showboating, wanking on the guitar, dressing like a pimp. He managed to make this segment all about him. That's not good tribute show etiquette.I don't deny that Prince is a GREAT showman and probably one of the funkiest rhythm players but that doesn't make him a great soloist. The guitar toss in the air? All about him. I'm sure George Harrison would disapprove of my stated opinion. Pretty negative I suppose. Sorry.

I read the title of this video, Greatest Guitar Solo Ever, and expected some traveling wilderby nonsense, what a nice surprise to see Prince up there doing a great Solo, well done Prince.
Not a Prince fan, but he's doing what he is to do: entertain. A little too much for my taste, but, still, it is simply the fusion of what he does: act, play, both. So, "Wow!"
The vid was named by someone other than the original poster. the person asked the poster to change it from "2004 R&R HOF" to the above cuz it wasnt getting any views & they thought this was a fantastic performance. If they'd tagged it with "Prince..." most of u wouldn't have watched with an open mind. If u love real rock then you'll appreciate the ENTIRE performance. Think about it. Jimi, Chuck, Pete, Angus,Eddie,SRV, & Prince etc are performers not just players trying to play nice and fit in.
Prince's solo was far more tasteful than the other guy's. Is it just me, or is the guy who is playing the first solos guitar sound way to fx'd? At least Prince has a somewhat natural guitar sound.
@NewEnglandBudo Not really a Prince fan. I still think that style is bit too fx'd, and yes, flamboyant. I just really do not like over fx'd guitar sound in the classic rock/blues music genre. I think too much effects give the player too much leeway because it covers up so many mistakes.
Prince was inducted into the R n R Hall of Fame along with George in 2004, the FIRST year of his eligibility.
To all those who trash him: No contemporary artist with his star/arena power has paid his dues to the old school the way Prince has - the Beatles, Jimi, Little Richard, Chuck Berry. Price has more than paid his dues
His overwhelming genius was correctly acknowledged by the RnR Hall of Fame.
It is fitting and proper he pays homage to the Beatles and Clapton here with panache and style.
@DavisNetPromos5550 Yeah to the first part. And yeah he shouldn't have even been out there with the others. On the other hand, he almost revived one of the most boring and lethargic songs ever.
@neeilmarquis Your opinion, and many wouldn't agree. Can't think what you'd expect ... the song's name is a kind giveaway. I love it. Very soulful and very George Harrison.
@FNOT4YOU The concert for George was supposed to be a memorial concert by friends n family of George This was supposed to be a celebration and gift to Dhani. By the look on Dhani's face both served their selective purposes well. peace
I love Prince, but he was partly showboating here. Plus he committed the cardinal sin of all lead guitar players, over playing when you're not the center of the stage and over the other band. I know cause I do it to. It's easy to fall in love with the solo and just want to play all night long, but it's something that one learns to temper as they mature. Am surprised at Prince hogging the stage like that, but then he's probably not used to sharing it either. But Prince is awesome, so who cares!
@RJiwatram man i heard that the original band on stage was reluctant to play with him on this song, naturally he was angry because of the self righteousness of the band and wanted to show them that he was worth playing with. So when his turn for the solo came he let out everything he was feeling with his music to kind of show them he can jam with the best of the best.
This was the song that made me fall in love with George Harrison. I have memories of laying in bed with a transistor radio under my pillow, listening to this on the radio. AM
And really??? Did his moma really name him " Prince"?

I read the title of this video, Greatest Guitar Solo Ever, and expected some traveling wilderby nonsense, what a nice surprise to see Prince up there doing a great Solo, well done Prince.

Not a Prince fan, but he's doing what he is to do: entertain. A little too much for my taste, but, still, it is simply the fusion of what he does: act, play, both. So, "Wow!"
briankwilcox 5 days ago

@curtgenerowe You must be a Prince fan? It was good but done in the usual flamboyant Prince style. Who was the kid between Prince & Tom Petty?
NewEnglandBudo 6 days ago
Prince was inducted into the R n R Hall of Fame along with George in 2004, the FIRST year of his eligibility.
To all those who trash him: No contemporary artist with his star/arena power has paid his dues to the old school the way Prince has - the Beatles, Jimi, Little Richard, Chuck Berry. Price has more than paid his dues
His overwhelming genius was correctly acknowledged by the RnR Hall of Fame.
It is fitting and proper he pays homage to the Beatles and Clapton here with panache and style.

Prince does this excellent. He stays true to the song while adding his own touch to it.

this is not the greatest gitar solo ever, this is the greatest cover ever.

He disrespected the other cats by be-bopping off the stage. The solo was more mugging than substance. I love Prince but I've heard him play better.
DavisNetPromos5550 6 days ago
@DavisNetPromos5550 Yeah to the first part. And yeah he shouldn't have even been out there with the others. On the other hand, he almost revived one of the most boring and lethargic songs ever.
neeilmarquis 6 days ago
@neeilmarquis Your opinion, and many wouldn't agree. Can't think what you'd expect ... the song's name is a kind giveaway. I love it. Very soulful and very George Harrison.
This version is great too.

@FNOT4YOU The concert for George was supposed to be a memorial concert by friends n family of George This was supposed to be a celebration and gift to Dhani. By the look on Dhani's face both served their selective purposes well. peace

Maybe not "the best ever", but a definite contender. Prince is/was a great guitarist/showman.

and George Harrison ringing in my mind.. this is as good as it can get AMAZING it is. covered in goose bumps i am ....bless you for posting

RJiwatram 1 week ago
@RJiwatram man i heard that the original band on stage was reluctant to play with him on this song, naturally he was angry because of the self righteousness of the band and wanted to show them that he was worth playing with. So when his turn for the solo came he let out everything he was feeling with his music to kind of show them he can jam with the best of the best.

@vulcman2007 prince hasn't done pop in 25 years. He's been his own genre since 1986. That's why most casual listeners only know him from Purple Rain.
