Monty did more in a half-hour than the current Fremantle/CBS version does in a full hour. Also, all the previous versions had two traders going for the Big Deal, not just one. Just Fremantle going for cheap again. I think Wayne Brady's a terrific host, Jonathan Mangun a great announcer/foil, and Tiffany Coyne a more than worthy succesor to Carol Merrill, but about 20 minutes of the show is comedy sketches and banter. The earlier series moved along.
This was the first episode shown in syndication after the "Prime Time Access" rule was introduced. However, it was actually a rerun from the original ABC primetime version (note the ABC Films distribution tag that had been added at the end of the credits). The ABC primetime version had added a brass section to Ivan Ditmars' band and a jazzed-up big band-style version of the classic LMAD at the closing. The first 3 syndicated show were ABC prime reruns, followed by first-runs the rest of the way.
@gameshowluvr86 When you see all of the show that Monty did, if you played the $10,000 game then if you lost that you can possibly get a car in the end. Wayne's version if you make $20,000 that's all you get!!!
@gameshowluvr86 back then you'd cry to because monty said to get on LMAD it would be a 2 year wait to be a contestant so if they tried in 1976 it wouldn't have happened
@heine71 This episode was taped December 1, 1970, so this episode was aired on December 25, 1970 I believe. For those who were born before LMAD debuted, what was the actual original air date for this episode?
@Ivoryman1986 No, if he's saying "Happy New Year", it likely aired December 26th. For the 1970-71 season the show had been moved from Friday to Saturday nights.

Even if the people got "ZONKY" they could still go for the BIG Deal, I wonder if Wayne will do that for his version!!!

lol, the car comes "completely loaded, including air conditioning, power steering, and brakes" - nice of them to include brakes!

@cdrw62 the way he said it, I took it to mean "power steering and brakes" as in power steering and power brakes. Although back then, you never knew.
