Don't get a 15ft, get a 12ft. A 15ft rod is way too long.

how big of a mullet would you need to hook a decent size tarpon (in inches)? And do you you regularly catch the mullet yourself or buy them?

When the mullet are running, you just need a cast net or a snag hook and you will get them. The tarpon are very aggressive during this period of the year, they will probably hit a finger mullet. I like using a mullet over 10 inches.

I use an 8ft leader with 2ft of #9 wire and I use two 7/0 J hooks. Over the wire I have 6ft of 200lb mono.

I fish mostly on the East Coast. You want to use a reel that has a minimum of 300yds of line. Try using a 7/0 J hook from the surf.

NICE!!!! I was filming the schools last year. Trying to get a big nasty Tarpon busting them. But no luck. We have not seen any schools like this in Fort Lauderdale this year. How do you like that GoPro? That is my next toy. I want to get my third lung out and go down and film someone chasing lobster or swimming with Manatee's. Why are we not seeing these schools. The GoPro films good, but to be honest, it creates a fishbowl view. There is a case made for the GoPro that will eliminate that effect. I believe the contour is a much better camera and sits better on your head. The GoPro is better for mounting, but the Contour is the superior camera when attaching it to your head. I filmed this video on the beach.

There are big schools of mullet in Juno, Palm Beach, and Lake Worth and they are moving South.

Yes I do, but I do use other braid brands. On my big shark reels, I use Diamond Momoi braid.

I would suggest going to Sports Authority or Walmart or possibly Bass Pro or Cabelas. An Okuma Avenger is a decent reel with large capacity and I believe it's only $40, then you have to get a rod and spool the reel with line.

@BlacktipH ah yeah, on tutorials I do captions bec I can't talk perfect (%90 hearing impaired) Yeah I was looking at my friend's contour and filmed at a water park with him and we watched our clips... my gopro ended up look way better than his contour :-o .... I have two friends with contour... %98 friends with GoPro! Contour can't tell if battery is low or if card is full or not... gopro is way easier for me to use and I can use it on headstrap, chest strap, not contour

Hey Josh, you know a magic trick I learned for catching monster tarpon... Use light wire or cable as your leader instead of mono or flouro.

I use #9 wire most of the time for tarpons, but for this time I was trying mono. I have learned not to use mono (breaks), only to use heavy fluorocarbon or wire.

I caught 5 tarpon, unfortunately the one in the video got off eventually (broke the 100lb mono leader), but it had the closest jump so I used this footage.
