I loved all the songs from this first album and bought it when it first came out. Since then, I've come out and find it sad that no gay couples are pictured in this montage.
This is, like Al Bowlly's version, very nearly perfect. Some lives and voices bring joy to all who have been touched by them. Mary Hopkins' is one of those.
Without a doubt my favorite version of this beautiful song. I could listen to her "Postcard" album all day. Wonderful voice, superb instrumental backup. Almost a BIg Band sound and flavor. Bring back the sweet ballads! Thanks for posting.
this song is timeless, it crosses genarations and will go on forever, like it says, "a tale that will never end". Such a dreamy song for lovers, one of my favorite.
I loved the magnificent Ray Noble's song as I heard Mary sing it when I was 17. Now I feel not only the gentle innocence that I unwittingly shared with Mary but also the great genius of Mr Noble. Thank you so much.
I've had a horrible day,so I have been going through my faves then I saw your pictures for this song and I feel a lot better now (mary's voice helps as well!!! )
Love is the sweetest thing is a track from the album Postcard produced by Sir Paul and released in February 1969. The album's "theme" was to give a feeling of "those were the days" and reached number 3 in the UK and 28 in the US
Ku san, hajimemashite! I found this video while looking for her song "voyage of the moon" but unfortunately I couldn't find..Did yo to her concert in 70!!? Wow..I am jealous..Tomiche from Kawasaki
Visit Joe's Garage, import and used CD store since 1986 in Kyoto, the city where once Mary has spent her holidays! So, Mary's "Night in the City" just stands for the city KYOTO.
Current address of this store: Takakura st. Nishiki sagaru (Shijo agaru), Obiyamachi 572, Fusaya Bldg. 1st fl. Kyoto J 604-8124. Near Daimaru dpt.
Very true xeebo! I mean the bit about not being able to decide what her style was. But her voice being so limited has something to do with it. "Jack of all trades, master of none" lol
Beautifully sung. But rather like Eva Cassidy, Mary never seemed clear on what her style was. I think she should have avoided tv and stuck to folk music which had more integrity.
She was very clear on what she wanted, that was why she packed in performing and stuck to recording, listen to "Earth song ocean song" to see what direction she would have gone if left to her own devices... SHe is now releasing her back catalogue her new CD "Valentine" has songs recorded mostly in the 70's it is wonderful

This is an excellent song by Mary, my 9th favorite on her Post Card Album, which is one of my five favorite albums.

Beautiful version of a great 1930's classic. Al Bowlly in his heaven must have enjoyed it.

Good evening Pat,
This song is one of the best my faverate song of Mary's.
The days i have is we used to raise a glass or two, went to bed hearing this song and "Lullaby of leaves".
"Sparrow", too.
In the morning waking up with "Puppy song", "Inch worm" and so on. Most songs were in the "Post card".
Have a good rest!

Mary is the forever my sweetest sweetheart.
I saw her in the Expo '70 held at Suita, near Osaka, Japan. My ticket was the frontest center seat that I had bought about one years before the live.
Ku at Saitama

Hi Tomie,
Mary whole 66 songs CD is available in the US, including Those were the days in several Europa languages also Coca-cola CM song by her too.
Find it at import CD shop in Kyoto.
Mary is the more peace-loving singer than after Beatles became into solosingers.

メアリーさんが大阪万博ツアーの際に休日を過ごしたことのある街、京都の輸入・中古CDショップのジョーズガレージを探してください。今は四条の大丸の近くに移転されたようです。
彼女の「Night in the City」は、まさに京都!なのでしょうね。。。

I love how Mary made her voice sound so Retro for this song...sounds right out of the 30's-40's.
Definitely done with a vintage flavor.
