  • how do you get him to retrieve?and how do you stop him from getting distracted and running off?

  • OMG, what is your technique? I bring home by new baby in about a month and I want to start her training right away. Any tips? Thanks!!

  • hey sheals, i have a 13 week old german shepherd. do u use a heavily scented treat to make your shepherd respond the way he does? if so what scent or what did u use? thx

  • Hey...love the video! I have a question though..I have a german shepperd, Deisel, 5 months, looks almost identical to yours except the ears are still a little floppy...but the problem i am having is that everytime i go outside with him in the back yard and go down the stairs (we have a porch), he gets really mad and jumps and tries to bite you! When I walk him, he's fine and listens well but when hes loose in the backyard, he goes crazy for some reason! any help would be awesome.. thanks!

  • Wonderful! Just took my 5 month old Shepherd out walking last night. Told him to stay and walked away with wife and other dog about 1/2 block before we turned around doing jumping jacks and throwing a ball. Shepherd stayed the whole time. Big rewards for that one!!! I LOVE THESE DOGS!!!!!!

  • is it okay to be training a dog at such a young age? I will get a german shepherd soon and I wonder at what age to train him. Like.. starting at 10 weeks? Would be much appreciated if someone replied to this.

  • great work :)

    totaly loved it

  • amazing

  • the corgi dog is so cute

  • nice dog.. very smart.. can i ask you something? are those treats, dog food or what? coz' i want to train my 12weeks GSD and i have no idea 'bout treat stuff's.. ^_^

  • nice dog.. very smart.. can i ask you something? what are those treats? are those dog food or what? coz' i want to train my GSD and i have no idea about that treat stuff's.. ^_^

  • i can say he's enjoying all the time with you, he's smart, quick and totally faithfull, very good sheperd.

  • wow.your hot! are you married?

  • The only one I don't understand how you did is "Tough Guy".

How do you go about training a puppy/dog to growl and be aggressive on cue as a way of protection?

  • The title 'tough guy' was really just tongue-in-cheek. While Carbon is doing bite training now, at that age all you were seeing was the 'speak' command being repeated. :-)

  • Aah. Darn lol!

There's a neighbor of a friend who has taught his shepherds to run around and bark and freak out when he screams "DANGER DANGER". It's nuts.

I'll have to ask him one day and see how..

  • its not the word its the way he says it as a way of surprise which gets any shepard alert. fi u had one u would know

  • nice vid! i was wondering if you had any advice for training, my aunt got a dog and, i dnt think she is training it proporly. could u help me out, it may not be my dog, but i would hate to see such potential go to waist.

  • Hey...I got a 8 week old puppy....could you send me some info on how to train her obediance? thank you

  • How do you teach a dog to bark? x3

  • where do i learn to train my dog like this? i have a 4 moth german shepherd. please help me. thank you

  • By the way, great instructional video!!

  • lol @ "corgi distraction"!

  • my german is 12 weeks old, were attempting to train him lol, thankfully he dont pee inside =O haha. but were just in the process of training.

  • We had a really smart dog once that we taught how to roll over , sit , shake , laydown and play dead. She mastered them completely. Unfortunetly after awhile she got so ahead of the game, if you just pulled out a treat she would do all of the tricks ending with "PLay Dead" without asking. People coming over to our house, even if they had a bag of chips they were eating would be amazed at the dog who went through this routine unasked for.

  • Hahahaha! Made my day. Well, actually I think that joint earlier made my day...

  • you were so good at traning you dog in this video you did a really good job

  • Very smart dog. I have a German Shephard/Husky cross and she's incredibly smart at 12 weeks old. She's already got most of basics down pat but I hope to get her up to your dog's standards at 6 months. Thanks for posting and letting people like me have a goal to work towards. My pup loves the one on one time during training and I'd love to see any other videos you've got. THanks again,

  • super

  • beautiful dog!!love his coat

  • Great work. I have two 6 months old german shepherds, and i cant seem to train them that well. Please somebody help me

  • For some reason I can't watch this video at all. YouTube doesn't seem to be streaming it correctly. I have read all the great comments but can't see it. Is it hosted anywhere else as well?

  • genial me gusto mucho verlos trabajar.

    forman un gran equipo humanoperro.

  • You make it look so easy- have to say you have done a brilliant job. Great trainer great dog! Thanks for sharing your video. Its an insperation to me the novice.

  • Great vid! I'm expecting my first GSD puppy in about 3 weeks - and I couldn't be more nervous about training her correctly!! This is a great example of (in my opinion) proper training, and to be able to show it to others, what a great thing! Thanks so much!

  • Wow, I am beyond impressed. I have a 12 week GSD puppy and have just enrolled her in a beginning manners obedience class and am looking forward to going through training with her and would like to work up to the skills and developments that you've made with yours. Hopefully with time and holding up my end of the bargain I will see some of these fantastic results you showcase here.

  • Well that was really nice of you to say! Thanks. Most important thing when working with a pup as young as yours is to build a great bond and make it fun. NO corrections at this stage! Have fun!

  • so nice!!!! so good!!!! so fun to watch!!!

He is so energic, so well motivated! everything's look so easy !! :) Congratulations!

  • oh he's Beautiful! this was Fun to watch.

  • i cant get my GSD to turn 'round me

  • Try luring the dog to the proper position and rewarding when the dog is in the right spot. Smart dogs pick this up pretty quickly. Clickers can help mark the proper behavior, too, in case your timing is a little off.

  • A dog is a heart on four legs!

  • beautiful beautiful dog :) i believe a well trained dog is a happy dog and i'v been waiting forever to get a dog, this May, God willing i will have a german shepherd puppy. I was wondering is there a book that you would recommend to help train him?

  • There are lots of books--too many to list unfortunately. I would start with reading about how dog's communicate. Knowing what your dog is telling you is a HUGE help in training and living with a dog.

  • so PLEASE any tips would be greatly appreciated, btw sorry for the bad english I'm not American

  • lovely markings!!!

  • Beautiful dog. Very well trained.

  • omg you were so good at traning you dog in this video you did a really good job aye! can you tell me how you tort your dog how to do them things! ....... and wats your beatiful dogs name! bye(O yeah awsome video:))

  • great training,i like it

  • Fantastic!!!

  • HELP!!!! This is beautiful.... how did you do all these? We have an australian shep/collie mix and he is hyper! He loves to play, run around, and 'herd' some dogs and us. He knows the basics (sit, down, high-five, up, walk, touch) but I want him to learn more. Any suggestion? Thanks...

  • :) Carbon has wonderful focus. Do you heppend to be training him for schutzhund?

  • Yes. His father was a winner in a National Schutzhund Competition. Sadly, I don't live anywhere near the clubs so I'm trying to work that out. But yes, he's being trained for it.

  • Hi Sheais: I am planning to buy one female german shepherd pup (~10 weeks) next year early. As a novice owner, what do you think will be the most critical things to commit & follow.....and what mistakes should be avoided that'll render the dog spoiled? Please advice, 'cos you seem like a great dog trainer! Great video by the way ;)

  • Follow the NILIF method: Nothing In Life Is Free. Make your dog do something before he/she gets a treat or reward. It sets up a great foundation for your future relationship as well as training.

  • oh man! you make it seem as if training a GSD is like a piece of cake, but as for me I have had quite a difficult time with my GS, I love him to death but ever since he turned 3 he's turned almost into a monster, he has developed incredible strength and speed and has become very bossy, I used to walk him a lot before that but now every time I want to walk him I just feel as if I'm gonna get my arms ripped off and he always drags me in the direction he wants

  • You AND your puppy are beautiful. But I think you are a little mean to your corgi. She must feel neglected :-(

  • Thanks for the compliment...but don't worry about the Corgi! He's spoiled like crazy! He just doesn't like obedience like the GSD does...he prefers sleeping in laps (and that doesn't make very interetsting video!) :-)

  • That's cool. I have a standard poodle and a shepherd and my poodle is like your corgi. It's hard to include him when he'd rather not engage. Thanks for giving my concern respect. And for the record, sleeping in YOUR lap could be a popular video -- for the right audience. ;-)

  • please tell me how you did this? its beautiful :D

  • did u train him or did you take him to classes

  • Yes, he's being trained by me.

  • You did an awesome job. I have Tango, he is about 4 months old right now and I wish he was at the stage your dog is was at then. He's a black and tan too..

  • Kraftwerk K-9 is the best. This pups father is quite a champion.

  • Wow, you can tell you work a lot with your dog. Very impressive! How did you teach him the tricks? Did you have previous experience with dogs, or did you take Carbon to classes?

  • Great job! As a professional trainer & breeder of GSDs, you do us all proud! Good luck with your future training!

  • Dear Lord I was so f*ing impressed with this. Excellent job you and your dog are so talented!

  • Are you working on bite work and drive? We started ours out at 3 months attending puppy protection classes. He will be 2 next month and is ready for his SchH1. We put a CD on him on his 1st birthday and he completed his BH about 3 months ago. capitol shepherds dot com is our website with video links to you tube dot com They are listed under my husband on you tube. Good luck he is a nice dog!

  • Hello, If you don't mind me asking ... Is your dog fixed? I've heard that they have more drive if they are not .

  • No, he's not. It's true that if a dog is neutered early he will have lower drives. Neutering after 2 shouldn't effect the drives. Also, the working lines are known for their drives, while the showlines aren't, really.

  • Nice, do you do schutzhund with him?

  • I'm planning on seeing how far I can go with him in Schutzhund. Right now he's still a pup.

  • wow that was amazing

  • Very nice! Carbon is a smart boy!

  • very nicely done. Do you do this as a job or just in ur spare time?

  • That was so cool. I've got a 10 wk old GSD and I'm not too sure on where or how to start the training. You make it look so easy!!!

  • I started working with Carbon when he was 10 weeks...nothing serious, just fun stuff to get him to learn that some actions gain him rewards. Just basically teaching him to learn how to learn. He loved training. Good luck with your pup...GSDs are seriously fantastic.

  • Did you start training him with a ball ,or a treat? How much time do you spend with him on training ? Are you a working person and if so how do you contain him? Sorry so many questions!

  • I started training him on treats until his ball drive got crazy. He'll now ignore food in favor of the ball. Even if you put treats on his tongue he'll spit it out and never take his eyes off the ball. I still do some training with food as a reinforcer, but the ball is generally the reward.

I spend time working with him every day but how often per day depends on circumstance. He lives for training sessions, and to be honest he'd be a nightmare if he didn't get worked every day! :-)

  • VEry impressive- both the video and the training!
