blow off tube dude. what you need: vinyl tube with outside diameter to match hole in lid, bottle with water and sanitizer mix to keep the nasties out, sharp knife to cut hose. stick tube in lid, stick other end in water, presto change-o, a monster airlock!!!
hey , im bout to start brewing beer, what is the airlock for, and does it really need to be used for brewing beer? just asking as im only learning to do it,
I dont use an air lock, i just have a large pinhole in the top of my barrel to let out the carbon dioxide! I reckon thats all u need! its never bothered me!
its best if you have one, i lets the gases created by fermentation out while not allowing air to get in, during this whole process you want as little air to reach the wort for the best results
I've had the same problem and have had the lid blow off. I guess it depends on the yeast you use. Dry English did that with a high gravity xmas beer I made.
nice beer man! as far as the foam, that's hilarious. the sound it makes is great! (you know... you can always judge how good a beer tastes by the pitch it screams after being brewed.

It sounds like you are boiling live birds in there and turning them into bubbles.
