blankas are turtles.. they wait for you to make a mistake and punish you for it.

i'd say to avoid using projectiles and make it a strong habit to crouch and block often.

Did he win the tourny? I don't know, but this is how a Blanka "should" be played in high level tournament play.

In short, you know nothing, you are bad, and Blanka is fine. Shut your mouth.

I only have 3300BP (I use Guile, by the way) and I rarely run into a Blanka that's that bad. With that said, that focus attack crap makes no sense. They should've had a different command to cancel it because the dash kills charge characters. Since they decreased the throw damage, they should've decreased the charge time by a few milliseconds. That would've helped balance things out a little. It's near impossible for a charge character to win a tourney. Too predictable.

Thats where charge partitioning comes into play, learning links, canceling and other tricks of the trade.

You can do Blanka's ultra out of his forward hop by doing B, f+KKK, b, f+PPP

And for a Guile, you can do things like standing mp to flash kick by rotating 180 from d to up, tapping mp at the f position on the way up.

Granted some things are more difficult than others, but it gives you a broader range of tools.

Yes, you still have to charge, but instead of charging down and going straight to the up possition for your flash kick, you charge down and ROTATE 180 degrees to the up position. I mis-spoke earlier about pressing MP at the forward possition, I ment at the back possition. Forward MP does his over head which comes out too slow to properly link to FK. But basicly here is what you are looking at. charge down, rotate to back MP (standing MP), finish rotation to up + kick (FK).

SF4 actually plays alot like SF 3s, minus the parry system. Alot of the functions still apply, ie: special/super canceling, negitive edge, kara throwing, etc. For a good reference, do a search for Thongboy Bebop's 3s basics. It gives a good visual stick and button reference to better understand how canceling and other things work. The tutorial transfers well in to SF4.

actually, you charge down, and on your way from down to up, hit mp in the middle, then up and kick. kinda like charge down, go up, hit mp when the stick or whatever is neutral, then kick when you reach up.

Blanka is absolutely ruined because he can be crossover attacked to easily. Also, since a sneeze can cause damage through electricity when he's getting up you can pretty much rush him. He can only rely on his EX d,u rolling attack if you don't have ex bars you are screwed. I like that he can slide and roll to escape FBs but eventually you will have to jump. One of the weakest Blankas ever and he's been my Char on CVS1/2 A3 and HD Remix he can be turtled too easily by too many characters. FIX HIM

i believe there not really tiers its just that every character is balanced, except for seth, it depends on how well you can set up combos and counter and that varies depending on who your fighting. For blanka its probably best to avoid jumping toward him and always trying atleast get 2 hits in every attack

Then you are not truely a SF fan. The balance issue is there of course, the new Focus Attack and Dash Cancel isn't that helpful to any charge character. It beats the special move follow up and all the link moves thereof. If you have watch most of the videos on SF4 you would notice you HAVE to jump forward to go offence, in fact its to jump on top and over your opponent. If you play SF4 you know how overpowered Sagat is. The game is well imbalanced as with 25 characters in console version.

This Blanka was too worried about pulling off his Ultra instead of actually fighting. This wasn't really that good of a match at all -- meaning the Blanka was really no match for the Guile. Learn to block Blanka.
