There are several things I love about this video, The Kings Bishop is my favorite race, Lost In The Fog is one of my all time favorite horses ( I have Russell Baze's autographed goggles from his Bay Shore win, and seeing "The Daddy" brought back memories as well. After my dad passed, we dedicated a race to him at Saratoga, and of all things, it was won by a horse named---"The Daddy"!
This particular race out of the chute was 7/8ths of a mile, but here are the general facts about Saratoga Racecourse according to the NYRA website itself:
Main Course: 1 1/8 Mile
Turf Course: 1 Mile
Steeplechase/Inner Turf Course: 7/8 Mile
Keep in mind that race lengths ultimately vary depending on where the starting gate is placed, how many times around, etc.
What a horse, Lord rest the soul of Lost in the Fog indeed. Interesting that 4th place finisher in this race, The Daddy came right back after this race to win the Super Derby to make Fog's performance here even more impressive.
he took second to carthage in the golden gate fields sprint and then won the aristides, all with cancer. then his start after that he finished last, they thought about retireing him, that he just didnt want to run anymore, but then he started missing a little feed, and a slight temp told them to take him for a full checkup. sad really, the best sprinter in the nation had to meet his fate this way, his first ten wins was at eight different tracks.
it was found he had a tumor on his spleen, the size of a grapefruit, and then another attached to his spine, the were going to opperate if it wasnt all over but it was, they gave him kemo to keep him compfortable but when he was showing pain they knew it was time. i still have the bay area article of when the first found out about the cancer, its been hanging on my fridge for two years now.
Hi. Lost In The Fog did not have a breakdown on the track. He was found to have cancerous tumours, and even won a race and ran very fast workout times while he had them.
One of the most tragic stories ever in racing IMHO.
What could have been..what could have been...
He was flying at a young age and that natural talent combined with his excellent bloodlines he could have been just an awesome Sire.
Could have been...

Hi. Lost In The Fog did not have a breakdown on the track. He was found to have cancerous tumours, and even won a race and ran very fast workout times while he had them.
He was a true champion and is greatly missed.

Right...after watching this video I read about him. Very sad...he had to run with more than one relitively large tumor...thanks
