Video game companies should make more games like this! Castlevania, Contra, Ninja Gaiden etc. Come on gaming industry! Cut yourself a break from making horrible copies from 2 of the most horrible games in existence (Halo, Cod) and bring back the glorious 8-bit era!
It was a bold move by Capcom, and it worked in everyone's favor, but once the novelty wares off, it's really not better than any of the earlier Mega Man MES titles.
Mega Man 9 is way better than Mega Man 2. In fact, all the canon games in the classic series are better than 2. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game. My problems with it are 1. That it doesn't live up to the hype and 2. The Wily castle. Again, it's a good game, but it's overrated. I thought the other games were far superior.
I'd have to revisit MM9 again but my first impression was that it was okay at best. I didn't really like the level design and found it very cheap. Megaman 2 and 3 are still by far the best. 6 was pretty good too. I'm playing 10 now and its pretty good not as good as 2 and 3 but maybe as good as 6, maybe.

@masterminded78 the reason why there is no slide and charge shot is because Capcom wanted to go so old school that MM9 would reflect the good ol' days of Mega Man 1 & 2. I was somewhat dissapointed, like you, about those things, but it's a great nostalgia factor and it reminds me of playing MM2 on my NES years ago.

@CheapBeer09 Designed to appear 8-bit, there were some things that actually can't be emulated on an actual NES, such as the chained platforms in Jewel Man's stage, bypassing a specific sprite limit and tile clipping.

I've been playing Mega Man since the 80's and downloaded this thinking it would be great. This game is WAY TOO HARD!!! After 2 weeksof trying to get through Wily's Castle(and nearly breaking my Wiimote in frustration), I gave up and deleted it. There goes 10 bucks i'll never get back. I'll stick to Kirby cause it's much easier. I hate this @#$% game.

@diamonddragoniori Pretty much what vampermaster said. Speed runs are very popular with 8 bit (and some 16 bit) games because of the technology used at the time (2D graphics and sprites for characters). Some arcade games as well can be used.
Do a Search here on YouTube for speed run; You'll likely see everything from Contra to Castlevania come up. The videos are fun to watch.
In a similar vein are "no death" runs, which are exactly what you'd expect; demonstrations of player skill.
There should be more downloadable games liike this! They should re-release some of the NES classics for PSN if possible. Where I live, it's not easy to get a hold of a NES...
I got the collection and played all the megaman games, and I admit the 8-bit games were fun, but nowhere near as good as 7 and 8. I understand the 8-bits having bad graphics, they didn't have better back then, but there is no excuse for games with these awful graphics these days. Add on the fact that it's downloadble content instead of a disc, and they removed the charge buster and slide, and it's easy to see why I would never consider getting this game.
this and MM10 are the hardest MM games i've ever played, they are brutal without a doubt, even easy mode on MM10 is no walk in the park, and yeah like this guy said, SO worth the 10 bucks, 9 and 10 are awesome, and the music GREAT! I kinda hope now that 8-bit gaming kinda makes a comeback... I love some of the new games today, but you can't beat the awesomeness and the difficulty of 8-bit gaming!

i found that strike man is best against sheep, and commando best on blade, i love starting against strike man cuz he's easy :D,and the rubber ball makes sense since it's an insulator towards electricity ;), and it bounces right at him half the time, so it works well, nitro is weak against chill man and it makes sense too :D, don't drive on ice ;D
I love how they finally brought back the 8-bit Mega Man games! In my opinion Mega Man 7 felt to cluttered and things felt to close together, and Mega Man 8 was just stupid with it's cutscenes and pointless voiceovers. ...I bet I'm the only one here who's under 20 who thinks that...

I personally don't know why in the world would you go back generations on a hyped up game. I don't understand why a gamer of this time would be so "over joyed" to play a 8bit game in a generation of purely 3D.
@Woodplain While I admit it doesnt always work going back to 8-bit works perfectly for Mega Man cause the best of the series were on 8-bit. It's a nostalgia factor for us old school gamers plain and simple.
Well, you have to had been one of the people playing megaman on the NES to understand why it's awesome.
Sometimes, 3D just isn't all that great, and Megaman and Sonic (and Castlevania) for example sucked in 3D so, they are now going back to the origins of these franchises which is great. Furthermore, it offers an alternative to all the "ZOMG Look at the Gwaphix" FPS's that are currently littering console's libraries.

Well freakin said man. Somewhere along the line the industry lost sight of what was important, and as these consoles became capable of better visuals that became the end-all/be-all of existence to them. I still consider the NES the best console ever because it made the most fun games. I've grown so frickin bored of FPS's and "pwning" people I could spew. I require more variety in my gaming than repeatedly shooting somebody in the head. This is a breath of fresh air in a stagnant industry IMO.
@mak7070 The difference is that Mega Man Legends was a completely different style of game than Mega Man and Mega Man X. Mega Man X tried going full 3D and the result was a disaster.

Sony is to stop producing the PS3 games console.
Apparently PS3 users are unhappy at the lack of decent games for the console and will be migrating to the Nintendo Wii.
The likes of GT5, Fight Night 4 and Killzone 3 are just not up to the standards set by Pong, Arkanoid and Jet Set Willy.
The Wii is expected to do well providing of course it gets the license to remake 'ET the Extra Terrestrial'

I've been playing Mega Man since the 80's and downloaded this thinking it would be great. This game is WAY TOO HARD!!! After 2 weeksof trying to get through Wily's Castle(and nearly breaking my Wiimote in frustration), I gave up and deleted it. There goes 10 bucks i'll never get back. I'll stick to Kirby cause it's much easier. I hate this @#$% game.

@imbadatnames390 You know, I downloaded today. And the only level I beat so far was Galaxy Man, too. But theres something lovely about this game that keeps me going despite its frustrating difficulty. When I was a kid that same thing happened with the older Megaman games.

lol you wouldnt consider this game means you never played any of the old megaman games...in my opinion megaman series is so much better than the games u see now..well ok 7 and 8 are good but they were for PS and snes but the old megaman games..i wudnt call it awful graphics..the levels ARE pretty innovative..the gameplay is harder than any game u will play today

There are only 2 things I hate about Megaman 9, aside from not being able to play it due to lack of current-gen console ownership:
1-Charge shots are out the window.
2-No more sliding.

@diamonddragoniori Pretty much what vampermaster said. Speed runs are very popular with 8 bit (and some 16 bit) games because of the technology used at the time (2D graphics and sprites for characters). Some arcade games as well can be used.
Do a Search here on YouTube for speed run; You'll likely see everything from Contra to Castlevania come up. The videos are fun to watch.
In a similar vein are "no death" runs, which are exactly what you'd expect; demonstrations of player skill.

There should be more downloadable games liike this! They should re-release some of the NES classics for PSN if possible. Where I live, it's not easy to get a hold of a NES...

I got the collection and played all the megaman games, and I admit the 8-bit games were fun, but nowhere near as good as 7 and 8. I understand the 8-bits having bad graphics, they didn't have better back then, but there is no excuse for games with these awful graphics these days. Add on the fact that it's downloadble content instead of a disc, and they removed the charge buster and slide, and it's easy to see why I would never consider getting this game.

this and MM10 are the hardest MM games i've ever played, they are brutal without a doubt, even easy mode on MM10 is no walk in the park, and yeah like this guy said, SO worth the 10 bucks, 9 and 10 are awesome, and the music GREAT! I kinda hope now that 8-bit gaming kinda makes a comeback... I love some of the new games today, but you can't beat the awesomeness and the difficulty of 8-bit gaming!

i found that strike man is best against sheep, and commando best on blade, i love starting against strike man cuz he's easy :D,and the rubber ball makes sense since it's an insulator towards electricity ;), and it bounces right at him half the time, so it works well, nitro is weak against chill man and it makes sense too :D, don't drive on ice ;D

I love how they finally brought back the 8-bit Mega Man games! In my opinion Mega Man 7 felt to cluttered and things felt to close together, and Mega Man 8 was just stupid with it's cutscenes and pointless voiceovers. ...I bet I'm the only one here who's under 20 who thinks that...

I personally don't know why in the world would you go back generations on a hyped up game. I don't understand why a gamer of this time would be so "over joyed" to play a 8bit game in a generation of purely 3D.

@Woodplain While I admit it doesnt always work going back to 8-bit works perfectly for Mega Man cause the best of the series were on 8-bit. It's a nostalgia factor for us old school gamers plain and simple.

Well, you have to had been one of the people playing megaman on the NES to understand why it's awesome.
Sometimes, 3D just isn't all that great, and Megaman and Sonic (and Castlevania) for example sucked in 3D so, they are now going back to the origins of these franchises which is great. Furthermore, it offers an alternative to all the "ZOMG Look at the Gwaphix" FPS's that are currently littering console's libraries.

Well freakin said man. Somewhere along the line the industry lost sight of what was important, and as these consoles became capable of better visuals that became the end-all/be-all of existence to them. I still consider the NES the best console ever because it made the most fun games. I've grown so frickin bored of FPS's and "pwning" people I could spew. I require more variety in my gaming than repeatedly shooting somebody in the head. This is a breath of fresh air in a stagnant industry IMO.

@mak7070 The difference is that Mega Man Legends was a completely different style of game than Mega Man and Mega Man X. Mega Man X tried going full 3D and the result was a disaster.
