They should add on the list of things to bring... safety vest; hard hat; safety shoes; coffee (in a thermo); and the driver must be supporting a beer-gut :P
@unknownsilant hey everyone ive been looking into company sponsored driver training with P.A.M Transport, you sign a one year contract with them and they pay for your cdl classes does anyone out there have any experience with this? do you think this would be a good way to break into the trucking industry?
isnt it when u push the brake pedal the air in the brake lines slowly leak out and the brakes start to work and when u let off the pedal the pressure is back to keep the brakes free ??
Really? You're putting yourself in a lot of danger if you're looking out for truck drivers. They get weeks of full time training, multiple tests, constant inspections and scrutiny etc etc etc.
If you want to save your life, look out for the people that only have to answer 20 multiple choice questions and take a 5 minute road test, yeah that's right, four wheel drivers require no formal training, are barely scrutinized at all, and cause 99.99 percent of all accidents.
i started driving a year ago and i was averaging 900 bucks a week. i was a rookie too. i was doing flatbed work. those are the real drivers on the road.
Aight well I want to know the end results..? Did u pass? I just went through Swifts traing academy in Millington Tn. and got my lic. and I seen a comment on this vid about Swift pay.. I hear a lot of bad about swift and now that I am home for a week I want to see if n e one will hire and pay more.. Not to mention they won't let u take the truck home and I live three hours from the terminal...Please comment back...
Hey it's Daly's old yard, and old red the FLD! The new yard is sweet and old red is retired and parked. Daly's in Buford, GA is a great place to train - you'll have a blast and they can teach!
nah dont listen to them, its a good career driving an tractor trailer, u can make good money depending on what company u go with and how much experiance u have, my buddys dad makes a lil over 100,000 a year
Make sure you don't get tickets. Some companies go back a lifetime, and others go back 5 to 10 years. 21 is a good time to start trucking. You can't go interstate below 21, at least in Kansas anyways.
make sure you check the tandems they should be at about mid to front point otherwise your gonna hate life when in tight places if there all the way back. I'm only 16 years old and I know how to drive a rig. been around trucks my whole life. I want to drive for Fed Ex Ground. I would drive for J.B Hunt but they use some crappy chassis that seem like there gonna snap in half.
good video, and good luck... not sure if you passed the state test yet... Remember red knob, trailer parking brake - yellow is tractor parking brake...
mybigbearon, you are retired USAF? If so why the hell do you choose to drive trucks if I was retired I sure as hell wouldn't be driving a damn truck. I would be on the bank fishing and drinking beer.
As a mater of fact,I'm going to be attending C1 Truck Driving Training for P.A.M.Transport. These You Tube vids are really helping me know what to expect. Thanks, and maybe we'll run into each other out there.
im at one of those "3-4weeks" training schools right now. Are these places really giving us the proper training to be out on the interstate hauling millions of dollars worth of merchandise? Are the job placement programs easy to work with and will i be able to do regional driving straight out of schooling?
I would guess that many of the "truck driving schools" are truly "CDL Schools," and that tells their primary purpose. If I had to do it over again (knowing what I know now) I would have taken the course at a technical college -- chances are they provide you with more miles behind the wheel training.
Step #2 (as I've gathered from recruiters and experience) is "company testing and training as needed." Most companies, I guess, require further training for their newly hired inexperienced drivers, but each has its own way of carrying it all out.
Ron Everyone at Daly's has seen your video and we are loving everything in it. We are so proud of you and happy for you. We love you, keep up the good work.
I enjoyed this alot! I just now interviewed a local truck driving school here in Oregon and I think I will have the funds to start training in March. Keep me posted mybigbearron on how it goes for you! God bless!
At first I thought "A Day At Truck School? Doesn't sound that interesting..."
But I'm sure glad I was wrong...it's pretty cool learning about what you're learning at the Truck School...EThe only thing that makes me nervous when I drive is when I have a Truck behind me (especially going downhill). My Subaru Legacy is kinda small and if by any chance that truck loses control...O.O
But know that I know about those breaks and the way they function I think I'll be more at ease next time.
Believe me! Truckers get nervous about that too! Did you know that truckers try to encourage TAILGATERS to come on around and pass them rather than follow so damned close. I've been enlightened a lot more than I thought!

I failed the parking test once, and the road test once, but Daly kept me onboard until I passed.
I never worked for Swift, so I can't say.

Note: ANYONE riding on the running board of a moving truck is a MAJOR safety violation.
Anyhow... all the best.
