@wFVIPU9GBSEIPBPWbipe And let's not pretend that Roy didn't lost to Montell as well. Roy's loss was more legit than either of Toney's to Montell as well.
@wFVIPU9GBSEIPBPWbipe Dude, you know you're deliberately acting like a retard. First of all, anyone who types in all caps is automatically stupid as shit. Second, you're purposefully being ignorant. You know the truth and you're knowingly avoiding acknowledging it because you want to believe something that isn't true. Toney has ALWAYS had massive weight issues. He would balloon up 50 pounds between fights if he didn't keep active. The Montell Griffin fights were both robberies.
@wFVIPU9GBSEIPBPWbipe That's like saying Trevor Berbick is better than Ali because he kicked his ass when they fought.
Toney wasn't anywhere near his best. Roy will admit to you that Toney was nowhere near his best for the fight. You can't make a judgement based on that.
@wFVIPU9GBSEIPBPWbipe Roy didn't really knock him down. He hip checked him and Toney lost his balance, as has often happened in his career because of his awkward stance.
James was weight drained for that fight with Roy too. It wasn't him at his best at all.
annaparker101, your comment is totally stupid. You think coz Holyfield fought well against Valuev recently, he was in shape ? My my, try to learn something about boxing before talking about it. Valuev is a total joke who can't fight, doesn't prove a thing, and no boxer is "still at his best" when he's fighting at 45... nor at 43 for the Toney fight.
annaparker101, your comment is totally stupid. You think coz Holyfield fought well against Valuev recently, he was in shape ? My my, try to learn something about boxing before talking about it. Valuev is a total joke who can't fight, doesn't prove a thing, and no boxer is "still at his best" when he's fighting at 45... nor at 40 for the Toney fight.
James Toney resembles Floyd Mayweather when he is fighting on the inside. He is a beast. He is the typical case of a boxer who didn't have the discipline but had the talent.
@Robstailey thats because your a jackass ... anyone who knows anything about boxing would know that guy was talking about tyson retaliating by biting off a chunk of evanders ear, thus he got what he deserved for using illegal tactics
@MrLad29 fuck you, holyfield is an all time great and did alot in boxing, if you watch this fight you see how tough he is even when washed up, yes he is dirty, so is tyson and a lot of great fighters, headbutting was hardly evident here, what was was the idiot referee jay nady always hollering because he was trigger happy
@flyinghotwing well i agree Evander is living legend and in my eyes he is 5 times heavyweight champion couse that decision agains Valuev is a disgrace for this sport,he outboxed Valuev in every round, but about this referee being trigger happy i dont agree this referee was doing his job and prevent this fight to become another headbutfest like those fights agains Mike,if stupid Mils fucking Lane did his job who knows how those fights agains Mike would finish,Mils Lane ruined those fights.
@obrad79 different strokes for diff folks as they say, i always like mills lane and think he did a good job...jay nady on the other hand i just cant stand..but oh well...........i guess u must be referring to tyson or holyfield doing dirty work and not controlling the fight but really when you put two dirty fighters together its hard to control the action regardless....but oh well ..cheers m8
@flyinghotwing well i completly agree to some point it is hard to bee referee in mach with two dirty fighters, but it is referees job to keep fight clean,if Mils Lane warn Evander for his headbuts he will show to both fighters that he wouldnt tolarate any dirtines in ring and that they will be punished for dirty fighting with taking away points and believe me it would have affect on both of them to stop doing those things
toney is a jake of all trade he can do everything u ask him to do in a boxing ring,he uses angles, counter, fights inside and outside, uses every punch.dont watch the punches watch his footworkand how set up his punches, then counter holyfields
hollyfield tried butting and the low blow in round 1 threw everything he had but couldn't tag toney. He went on to fight Valuev and aquittted himself extremely well against the 7ft 2 beast proving he must have been still at his best for this Toney fight. No excuses for losing to Toney the GOAT.
Your logic makes no sense, Valuev is a shit boxer, hence Holyfield looked half decent against him. Holyfield looked shit vs Toney, because he's way over the hill.
@Bucketheadhead yeah man...i seen tyson destroy guys and i admit the best knock out artist ever, but i only seen videos of the greats, lewis was good, Klitscos's are good too, but toney is an exception. He has great slip, and counter punch ability, smothering punches...awsome! you can see where Mayweather got his style from. since i've been watching boxing Toney is the best pound for pound. just look at what he does: all boxer that fight him have a problem with the exception of roy,
yeah he's a good boxer, and can slip and counter a punch very well, but he boxes at a time when not many other people are challenging him, and i seriously doubt he is the best ever p4p, no way. If he were to fight the greats, at heavyweight or lower, he'd be beaten I believe.
@annaparker101 At 41 year old, Holyfield was far from his "best" in this fight, LOL. His reflexes are & have been gone for a long time. The only reason he did so well again Valuev, is because Valuev was a big, slow target/puncher, with limited boxing skills. A prime Holyfiled (faster & with reflexes intact) would have annihilated Tony. You know nothing about boxing.
Evanders moves were very beautiful. He has the movement but it is subtle and the timing is not as sharp. This fight would have been very different ten years earlier.
the fight wouldnt have happened as toney was a middleweight then! Toney always had more skill, but not as much heart and the sheer battling attitude as a young holyfield
If you're talking about moves then you obviously don't know about J. Toney. He has one of the best defences in boxing. He slips, dips and dives so elegantly without getting hit. His opponents can't find the target. Holyfield had Toney in the ropes for 1/4th of the round in round 5. Still Toney managed to slip every single powershot Evander threw at him and counter right back. Great counter-puncher too.
Notice what Jerry Roth (the ref) says to Evander - "Evander don't butt!" (4:27)
@holdkaeftima <<---what he said. Holyfield is a good counterpuncher. Toney is a great counterpuncher. He put Evander through school in this fight. This was an easy fight for Toney. Holyfield got diced and beat up in this fight.
that style that they use will tire their opponent out
and make them think..
holyfield is tired mentally and physically

Everyone talks about Holyfield being past it, but so was
Toney, who was at his best as a 12 stone fighter. He
is the one who has moved UP to meet Holyfiled in a division that
Holyfield has been in for years. Toney gives away about 4 inches
in height too. The GOAT
