Oh lest anyone get the wrong idea he was a just a boatswain in the Navy and just a 91B in the Army. though he was SAR swimmer qualified he is not one that makes himself something he isn't/wasn't. He was stationed at 32nd street and saw SEAL beach all time. He said "Mind over matter. I would mind so it would matter."
Obviously some of them are phonies. But my husband spent 8 years in the Navy and is now in the Army to finish out his 20. We have ordered replacement ribbons or medals and they DO ask for record and for the Navy ones his DD 214. They verify! Yes stuff is available off base and probably from internet sources that don't verify but it seems like it would require to much work and effort. I don't see how or why anyone would do it.

Up here in Canada, a lot of guys get away with pretending they went to the US, and joined up for combat duty. There were, in fact, about 1000 Canadians who served in the US military, and saw tours in Vietnam, but there are 1000s more who pretend to be vets. It's easier to get away with up here, because most Canadians don't have enough knowledge to spot them. I was a couple of years too young for Vietnam, but I knew enough about it to spot phonies. A lot of Canadian bikers use that trick.

You can buy issue uniforms from surplus stores that are off-base around Army/Military bases - they also sell awards and decorations there. Bradley's outside of Ft. Drum is probably one you can Google.

My rank upon discharge was Private First Class. And that's just fine with me. I don't have to inflate my service. I'm proud of everything I did in the Corps.
I know exactly how you feel, I served durring Vietnam but was not in country and have never claimed that I was. I am proud of the service that I did render, I was a Aero Scout that flew the East German Border and was Proud to have served in the cold War. There was a fire at the national archives in St.Louis which destroyed a lot of records from that era. But, if she writes to what ever branch her father served in, they should be able to give her what ever info they have.

@buds131. i know from working with SF teams in the army it takes a lot of hard work to pass those schools and selection has a 71 percent dropout rate. so i knows its got to be about the same for sailors going out for BUDS/UDT even i know that navy special ops track every student. because wouldn't a command have to authorize release of sailors from there commands and ships to attend, plus isn't there a medical screening on record, its a lot of paper work involved and the navy tracks that for sure

I served in the Marine Corps. I was a 3043. Supply Administration and Operations Man. I think that was a damned important job.
Steel don't fly without supply.
My decorations are, the Marine Corps Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. That's the second highest shooting award in the Corps. But not everybody can say they're a Marine Sharpshooter. My rank upon discharge was Private First Class. And that's just fine with me. I don't have to inflate my service. I'm proud of everything I did in the Corps.

I know exactly how you feel, I served durring Vietnam but was not in country and have never claimed that I was. I am proud of the service that I did render, I was a Aero Scout that flew the East German Border and was Proud to have served in the cold War. But the real Hero's are those like yourself and my Uncle wh served with Patton and cousins who served in the Pacific durring WWII and my Father who served in Korea and Vietnam and those who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I was in the USMC and I met a few seals when I was in Iraq. I have to say they arent what I expected. They where way laid back loved to joke and they called me big country. No idea but I think they where making fun of me lol. I talked to one of the guys and we have a good conversation about woman and divorces in the Military why? No idea. There was a fire at the national archives in St.Louis which destroyed a lot of records from that era. But, if she writes to what ever branch her father served in, they should be able to give her what ever info they have.

i do understand the POW network. does a great job with exposing fakers but the defense manpower data center is who reallys moniters every veteran. thats how a person can get there VMET, verification of military experience. it tells everything about a soldier, marine sailor and airmen, they even can tell you the dates they got promoted, schools attended, assignments. and dates for all classes. but the only bad thing is you need there social sec number.

@buds131 i really appreciate you doing what your do, my sister serve in the navy as a PR2 at corando island i myslelf have over 21 years in the army and the only thing i vever done was a little time as an 11B infantryman 1989-1993 an aircraft electrican and apache systems repair from 1993 - 2008 and now i drive trucks. 88M, i got 1 yr and 8 months and i retire. i was never Special forces but i support them because we in aviation give chopper rides SOC teams. plus conduct airborne ops as well

@buds131. i know from working with SF teams in the army it takes a lot of hard work to pass those schools and selection has a 71 percent dropout rate. so i knows its got to be about the same for sailors going out for BUDS/UDT even i know that navy special ops track every student. because wouldn't a command have to authorize release of sailors from there commands and ships to attend, plus isn't there a medical screening on record, its a lot of paper work involved and the navy tracks that for sure

Every once in awhile I'll put a fraud or two in the back of my patrol car. Some of them like to tell you how bad ass they were in the service. It usually only takes one quick question to stump them on what and where they served. It is frusterating because just before we arrested them they were trying to pull ass or get some pity party off their bullshit lies.

Wow i can't help but feel bad for these guys in the photos. Most of which i'm sure deserve this but my father im afraid to say lied to me most of my youth about his time at "war" It hurt to find out it was all a lie and to hear him go on when he was drunk (major drinking problem) tore me to bits. - Does this guy have more medals than a Russian general?
- Does he claim service in one of the spec ops units?
- Does he have any medals like the Silver Star or higher?
- Does he claim purple hearts but have no scars?
- Does he have trouble remembering dates and places?
All of these are red flags that your dealing with a phony!

My former Veterans Service Officer got busted last year for VA fraud; he claimed 100% for PTSD for a firefight when he was in the 82nd in Nam - turns out he was a payroll clerk and was only there for 91 days, and the firefight he claimed he was in didnt take place for another 3 months after he was laughing it up in Hawaii
