I don't hear anything jazzy or Blus'y in this performance. there is no better version of this then Leonard Bernstein's.Lang Lang should have taken pointers from that performance.

@calflyboy Lang Lang enjoys the music he plays, and thats what makes it lovely to watch. Compare it with Bernstein's performance, you can see that Bernstein was very serious...

This version is so clean... I think I like the version with Lang Lang and Herbie Hancock better. Sounds like it has more soul in it.

love lang lang, love the pit band in this recording, but performance a little too liberace for me - reader's digest version of the score, flashy costume (not quite as flamboyant as liberace), and sloppy technique. i do think that lang lang should get some big rock rings when he plays though.

I grew up listening to a recording of Oscar Levant playing this, and used to play it myself. It is a real treat to hear and see Lang Lang play this gem of American musical literature. He does it up just great with tremendous spirit!

@JerryHsu246 VERY good pianist, but not the best. The more commercial, after Clayderman (but of course a LOT better than him). Just compare Lang Lang version of Prokofiev piano concerto 3 to Argerich version and you'll see the difference between a pianist in the top 20 (Lang Lang) and a pianist in the top 5 (Argerich).

out of all the professional pianoist out there....lang lang is really quite mediocre when you ignore the flashy suits, crazy hairdos and eccentric style of playing. the music he produces is mediocre.
