So I passed act one and understood some stuff that ive spent hrs reading on the MGS Database and interenet but i couldnt get a lot of stuff. So a cousin told me to play the other games before finishing 4 and I am currently on the MGS2! The story of this series is just the BEST! so damn Epic and badass!

I have played these games, the stories are great, albit a tad confusing at times, however if you removed the gameplay and just relied on the cutscenes it would be a great movie.
Am I the only one who absolutely loved MGS2? I understood the plot in it's entirety. (Granted I also understood Inception in one run as well, so it may just be me.)
I also had zero problem with Raiden. He was supposed to be the antithesis to Snake, a greenhorn trained by VR missions, and manipulated by forces higher than him. It all fit the MEME theme quite nicely, and I felt a strong connection to it, moreso than the GENE theme of MGS1 or the SCENE theme of MGS3.

It really doesn't matter that much, you just need to not care about the little insignificant facts.

This was kinda weak out of all the Four games of the saga. mainly because you have to play that blondie faggot most of the time and so little as snake, but it was a great game notheless, though MGS3 will always be my one and only game of new millenia!. It was just amazing.
really? this was always my absolute favorite.. and i hated mgs 3. it seemed that you were always huddled down on the ground and dependent on changing outfits the whole time. the whole "big shell" thing and the colonel being fake gave it a "doomsday" feel. i just loved it and wish they would bring it to the playstation store (mgs4 just isn't the same)
i don't know, to me MGS2 felt the weakest - partly i didn't particularly enjoy the Big Shell area.
i loved the first MGS because it just has that classic feel, and intense atmosphere.
MGS3 had an exciting story, and i loved stealthing it up in the jungle.
and MGS4 - well, i liked the diversity of its areas, and totally loved Old Snake and the amount of pain he went through. it wasn't perfect, by no means, but it felt just a little stronger than MGS2.
I think MGS2 was where everything started to get serious. It started playing the idea of memes, which are a key idea of the franchise, and it started to play with the idea of snake, and leaders, and created the political dimension that made MGS3 so heartbreaking. Having said that, I concur that MGS1 was easily the most classic of all of them. Like the first season of Farscape. Everything was new, and beautifully performed.

at the end of the day, this is a game not reality, and within popular culture the name rose and jack in a relationship condition typically is referred to titanic.
i understand your point, but you also have to take under consideration that those names are part of a very popular culture and are very well known--especially in the United States (or at least...at the time).
I used "steal" in the contemporary sense when used in such context, suggesting they reused popular material/copied.

They're even more widely known over here in Ireland. After all the titanic was built in Belfast. In almost every game, film or book you'll find something clichéd; sometimes (like here) it's unimportant and sometimes it's reused and made even better in some cases (E.g - Eragon using aspects of Star Wars). It really doesn't matter that much, you just need to not care about the little insignificant facts.

The fact remains that it's an example of popular culture. This game is also popular culture. Given the relativeness and the immense size of the team working on the project, they would have had to have known or have been informed of the name choice.

@oron345 I think it is because it is the first game that had a main, not Solid Snake character, that and Raiden has a different personality form snake.
Regardless I agree Raiden was a Cool Character.

This was kinda weak out of all the Four games of the saga. mainly because you have to play that blondie faggot most of the time and so little as snake, but it was a great game notheless, though MGS3 will always be my one and only game of new millenia!. It was just amazing.

really? this was always my absolute favorite.. and i hated mgs 3. it seemed that you were always huddled down on the ground and dependent on changing outfits the whole time. the whole "big shell" thing and the colonel being fake gave it a "doomsday" feel. i just loved it and wish they would bring it to the playstation store (mgs4 just isn't the same)

i don't know, to me MGS2 felt the weakest - partly i didn't particularly enjoy the Big Shell area.
i loved the first MGS because it just has that classic feel, and intense atmosphere.
MGS3 had an exciting story, and i loved stealthing it up in the jungle.
and MGS4 - well, i liked the diversity of its areas, and totally loved Old Snake and the amount of pain he went through. it wasn't perfect, by no means, but it felt just a little stronger than MGS2.

I think MGS2 was where everything started to get serious. It started playing the idea of memes, which are a key idea of the franchise, and it started to play with the idea of snake, and leaders, and created the political dimension that made MGS3 so heartbreaking. Having said that, I concur that MGS1 was easily the most classic of all of them. Like the first season of Farscape. Everything was new, and beautifully performed.

@ smashmaniac64: Well, Kojima didn't want the "pleasant" surprise to be ruined, so he made the whole intro about Snake, with a few clips of Raiden. In fact, I think he even took a few clips of Big Shell, and replaced Raiden with Snake, just so no one would find out.
Obviously, this didn't sit well with most people. I wonder if they would've reacted as badly if Kojima had been honest from the get-go?

i remember...i was in probably 5th grade maybe 6th when I first saw this....most beautiful thing I ever saw in my life. I remember playing the Japanese demo on my 11th birthday with my friends. Snake is like a member of my family.
