  • Wow 75% increase in effeciency. I find that hard to belive or rather deceptive. New dishwashers do use smaller less powerful motors & since they are less powerful than old 1970s models they run about 75% longer. 2-3 hurs for a wash.

New models run off of circuit boards so they draw energy even when not used. I personally think the figures are deceptive & that they actually consume equal to or more energy from a different vantage point.

  • Even if new appliances do save you a few pennies per yr in utilities the durabilty simply does not exist that once existed in machines up to 1970s

Those machines were built to last for 30-40 yrs. 5 - 7 yrs is more like the standard norm for aplliances today, I've seen failures as soon as 2yrs old& sometimes don't even work straight from the factory so realistically if you have an older machine it was built better than anything you buy today. You waste more money on the unreliable appliances today

  • The most relaible today is Samsung & you will pay a few hundred $ more.

    The least reliable is LG

Kenmore is still pretty good but I would not buy GE.

Never buy the flat surface touch panel. It's a pc board destined to fail. One single diode fails & the entire board needs to be replaced. The most reliable are the old mechanical dials where you hear the clicking sounds when you turn the dial. The older, simpler, cheaper mechanical technology is the smarter buy

  • The fancier they are, the more features they have, the more electronics they have, the less reliable they are. Don't be drawn in by the beauty. A woman calls me, had a new LG front load dryer, painted like a candy apple red 1957 Chevy, it's amazing how beautiful appliances look these days but she wanted to buy a $50 used dryer from me as a back up because her husband kept having to fix her LG. Do people really want to live their lives like this? Just buy a simple reliable machine.

  • @GlobalAwareness2525 Love all these comments man, you are right on all of them.

  • Front loaders are much more efficient than top loaders but they are very tempermental , a lot of new model top loaders are HE (high efficiency)

  • The one thing this lady is failing to tell you is that the newer model appliances do last HALF as long as the older units , yes they are less efficient but they are built to last , on top of the fact that parts are usually a lot more readily available for repairs because a lot more newer model appliances need special order parts due to the energy efficiency standards from the government.......service tech 5+ yrs experience.......and yes I do fully respect all do it yourself people out there!!

  • The average life cycle of a dryer is 13 years? HA! Ours is almost 21 years old and still working!

  • my uncle just gave me a whirlpool portable dishwasher. its from 1989 but was given to me free, he bought it used. when he bought a house it came with a built in. im thrilled, it might be old but works fantastic. some of the older stuff was built better. i hope parts are still available.

  • @ad356

Sears parts direct should still carry everything you need to get it fixed. They have appliance parts on there for appliances from the 60's and 70's. :)

  • front loading washers suck bad

  • there better than top loading washers, thay wash better, cheaper to run etc
