Reading on the Union side were escaped Southern slaves later now ex-slaves joined the Union in 1863. While the Northern slaves couldn't join at all, Besides the Northern slaves weren't emancipated until March 1, 1875 the 14th Amendment.
There was even a lot of secesh activity here in central California where I have unfortunately spent almost all my life. A lot of the soldiers recruited here were kept in the area to keep the citizens quiet. I'll bet everyone who fought in this war would be disgusted at what is happening now. your correct southern AZ was a territory clamed by C.S.A., but they never officialy left the Union. On the other had it wasn't a state so I don't know if it could.

You are correct, but it was only a small percentage that wanted to join the C.S.A., the morjority wanted to be Union, Kentucky regiments fought for the union, but officialy they were nutral.

there has always been a debate between a stong central gov and states rights. most of the original founders were terrified of a all powerful central gov but some did long for a king and a gov that they came from, since ww1 we have moved to a more centralized federal gov. the civil war led to the coming of that more and more. before the civil war each state was more independant. it is good debate but i believe in more control on the local level and not in washington. example of failure, education

the civil war lasted for 5 years and then here in georgia we were under recontruction for 12 more years. my step dads parents told him of hearing the sound of war when they were little children. he is 85 years old. amazing he can tell me the stories that he was told by his parents who lived then. that is not history written with an agenda but straight from people who lived it. i am southern, georgian, chickasaw indian and i am not racists but believe america is strong when all people can be free

Reading on the Union side were escaped Southern slaves later now ex-slaves joined the Union in 1863. While the Northern slaves couldn't join at all, Besides the Northern slaves weren't emancipated until March 1, 1875 the 14th Amendment.

There was even a lot of secesh activity here in central California where I have unfortunately spent almost all my life. A lot of the soldiers recruited here were kept in the area to keep the citizens quiet. I'll bet everyone who fought in this war would be disgusted at what is happening now. Slavery was on it's last leg, it would have died out on it's own, 600,000 soldiers didn't have to die to end it, for that matter the union could have ended it by a method of compensation like all of Europe did.
30,000 Free black men fought for the Confederacy of their own free will, why did they fight? Could it be that they saw the union for the foreign invader that they were?

Yes, there are many people who can see the very places where their ancestors died in the fight for Southern independence, my GGgrandfather fought in a Kentucky militia during the war, but he made it out alive.
